Just curious as I always am about random things, but are you right or left-handed? Which handedness do you think our dear Albus and Minerva have?
This is something that has been bugging me for a while so I just had to ask! Being a lefty myself I am always on the lookout for other lefties. I think all lefties seem to share some sort of bond, kind of weird but I do. We sort of sympathize each other in a way and it's easy to start of conversation with someone you don't even know because you bring up some little thing that is an every day obstacle for lefties, such as writing in a spiraled notebook or using righthanded scissors for me anyway.
As for Albus and Minerva's handedness, I tend to think along the lines of them both being left-handed, (they both are creative, studious individuals) but Minerva also could be right-handed i.e. Dame Maggie is right-handed.
What do you think? If you have dissenting opinion, I would love to know what you think.

I'm right-handed, and when you said about Albus and Minerva I immediately thought she was left-handed for some reason, not sure why. I've never thought about it before. I've always thought Albus was right-handed *shrugs*.

Well, I'm another lefty. I can sympathize about the spiral notebooks, and I always hated the smear of ink I get on my hands. I don't know about ALbus and Minerva, but number wise most people are right handed. I've never understood why.

I am right handed. I think in canon Albus is right handed because that is the injured hand, but I could see Minerva as left handed based on her personality. I don't think JK has ever said one way or the other.

For some reason, I think that Albus would be left-handed, probably because he comes off as such an unusual individual. He seems so creative and in some ways "isolated" from everyone else that this would just be one more thing that sets him apart. As for Minerva, the way that she seems to stick to conformity and her “disapproval-like-attitude” of odd things (other than Dumbledore!) leads me to believe that she would be right-handed. She doesn’t seem to like to stand out and although Albus may not enjoy being in the limelight he does seem to handle it better than Minerva does. Minerva's very practical attitude also makes me wonder whether or not she may find being left-handed inconvenient. Does this make any sense to any of you? Maybe I have read one too many AD/MM fics. Maybe I just need to get some sleep! - Jess P.S. I am right-handed, not that that makes any significant kind of difference. Lol.

I'm a rightie, on the look-out for lefties, because they tend to be nice and creative people. Based on their personality, I imagined Minerva to be a rightie (with her stern teacher behaviour and logic) She would use the left part of her brain more - somehow I imagine Transfiguration to require skills that you need for Maths and Biology - thus be a rightie. I always thought Albus was a leftie though (for the reasons Jessabelle brought up) and was saddened to find out in HBP that he wasn't.

I'm Right handed. And Minerva being organized from what I read and her being the kind of teacher she is. I'd think she'd be a rightie. But as for Albus he'd be a leftie. But then again in HBP he couldn't be right so he's also a rightie.
But if Albus was a leftie and Minerva a rightie. It would be so easy for them to hold hands under the table during meal times! ehehehheh ;D

Me:Right Minerva:most likely Right Albus:LEFT! but it would be cool if he were ambidexterious (misspelled I'm sure).
Lady Jolly is right; if their stronger hands match their personalities then they could indeed hold hands under the table!!!

I'm afraid I don't understand why being creative would signify left-handedness, and studiousness right. I'm right handed, and very into art, theatre, music, etc, whereas my brother, who is left handed, excells at sports, electronic-stuff and math.
I would imagine Albus, as someone else said, to be ambidexturous (sp?). He's the greatest wizard, so it makes sense to me that he would be equally able to work with both hands.
;D

Childminerva- I never thought of Albus as being ambidextrous, but I suppose I can see that now. Even with his injured hand, I don't think that would automatically rule out the possibility of him being a lefty. I can eat and write with both hands equally so I don't see how he couldn't, but then again I suppose anyone who injures their dominant hand would have learn to use the other unless they wanted to be spoon-fed by a certain witch *wink*
AmandahLeigh- I have a lot of friends who are into the arts that are right-handed so I agree with you there. I was given this "lefty" calendar for Christmas and was reading through it when I noticed that there was a statistic that lefties tend to have a certain skill for math and science. So I think that may prove that righties aren't always so analytical. Just ask my lefty Environmental Bio teacher.
To the rest of you-thank you for replying. I always curious about random things like this. Though I shouldn't I tend to assume most people I meet are right-handed before I see them right or eat. Wierd I know. When I see films I always look to see who is left or right-handed. HP kind of let me down in that department, but that didn't detract from the film though!
Thanks again!

i am right-handed, but pretty capable with my left hand (couldn't use my right hand for a while) but i think maybe Dumbledore could use both (not even going to try to spell the formal word) and about minerva... in the first book of the Chrestomanci (i know i spelled that wrong) series by Diana Wynn Jones, the main character IS left-handed but his teachers always made him use his right hand as it is "proper" When she went through school maybe the teachers were like that? random thought i thought of when i was reading everyones replies

My mother had to teach my brother to write because even in the early nineties our local school ystem was teachign him that it was 'wrong' to write with his left hand, and that he should do it right handed like 'everyone' else.
I'm pretty good with my left when it comes to things like badminton, tennis, drinking and eating, but with writing it's right all the way for me. I love being able to switch hands in the middle of a tennis match or softball game though, that always amused me, as I bet it would Albus, lol.

My great grandad had to teach himself you use his left hand when he lost his arm, according to my dad. I'd love to teach myself to use my left hand, it would be cool to use both. I can't use both, I'm ok with eating with my left but I favour my right hand in everything even in typing as I tend to use my right hand much more (I can't type properly, I'm self taught and I'm not that slow anymore, I use msn messenger too much for my own good).

Amandah Leigh: The facts most people based their opinion on are studies in biology that showed that right-handed people use the left part of their brain more and vice versa. It's also described which part of the brain represents what skills, meaning eg. that left-handed people are supposed to be into art+stuff. But this is just a generalisation, so there can be many exceptions to the rule. It's also firmly stated that maths+musical talent are connected. I had a classmate who "almost" failed maths each and every year in high school and he went on to become a professional musician (playing classical music), so who knows?

I'm also a righty. I think of Albus as being able to write with *both* hands. Just because he is such an unpredictable person. Minerva, on the other hand *sorry for the irony!* I think she is a left-hander. I think the reason why is because I love the idea that her and Tom Riddle were an item before Min and Albus fell wonderfully in love with eachother. I just like the thought that Min has a dark side of her. ?? Maybe because when I read books about how, in the old days, being left-handed often made people think that you were involved in witchcraft and stuff. Ever since I read a story on fanfiction.net about her and Tom Riddle having a secret love and her loving him and likewise but her not wanting to join him in his dark deeds and stuff, almost immediently made me think about her being a lefty. I could be crazy, if so, back away slowly! Joking. Rae

I'm right-handed, but now that I've read this topic I'm going to practice to write with my left hand ;D About Min and Albus: I think Min is left-handed, because she is so independend and she does everything how she wants it. And Albus: right-handed, I mean he is in everything so special, so his hand would be normal (bad theorie, I know). Well, now I'm going to practice to write with my left hand! (Actually I think I'm first going to learn how to write, because with all this vacation it's been a while since I've written ... I hope I can still write, otherwise I have a problem at school ;D) Love, Sarah
