I was just curious about school in countries that don't speak English. In English speaking countries, we have a class called 'English' where we learn about grammar and essays and books and stuff. Is there an equivalent, and if there is, what is it?

Well, I'm Belgian (from Flanders) and here we have the literature stuff and all in Dutch class, as that's our mother tongue. Although I must say that especially during the last two or three years of high school, we get literature and essay stuff in French, English, German and Latin too... well, not essay stuff in Latin but at least literature . Yupp, German class is like that. And, depending on the teacher and kind of class you have, it's nearly the same for foreign languages, eg English or French.

Here in México you take "Spanish" to learn grammar and orthography. In junior high and high-school you take "Mexican and LA Literature", "Spanish Literature" and "Universal Literature". You also take English lessons and, as an optional class, "English Literature" Isabel
