Kate might go on a bit of an adventure! I made a Fine Arts' International Program, and so I might be coming to a city near you in the summer of 2007. I don't know a thing about Europe, or what to bring to wear, as they've set a weight requirement on my bag, along with dimesions, the whole thing. If any of you have and ideas or tips, I'd totally appreciate it--mind you, I've got to raise around $5,000 by June, so... Any help with that would be nice, too. I'm not really the fundraising type. Go figure. Some places they've gone before at France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark; but we won't know places for sure until April. Thanks for your help, you guys. I really am looking forward to this!! ! --Kate

Oh my God.
I'm even more jealous than you could ever believe. AUGH.
Congratulations, and good luck! I'll donate to the Send-Kate-To-Europe fund; I did it for Sean's sister, who is also incidentally named Kate, and also went to Europe... O-o;

Oooh, that sounds like it'll be a lot of fun!! May I inquire as to which area of the Fine Arts you were accepted for and how long you'll be there and if you'll stay with host families? Sorry, too many questions off the top.... On both of my trips to Europe our bags couldn't weigh more than 50 lbs and our carry-ons couldn't weigh more than 13 lbs. You can also check weight restrictions on the airline sites because sometimes they're different depending on which airline you fly with. Also you may to want keep checking the weather in Europe online. The weather there is pretty similar the weather in the US, so under normal circumstances you can pack what you'd normally wear in the summer, but pack a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt just in case, because you never know. It was hot this summer while I was in Germany, but I was also cold quite a bit too. You said you know nothing about Europe, so suggest going to the library or to Barnes and Noble and looking at a few books on the subject. Since you don't know where you're going until April, I'd stick to the library and just read general books. I know school is right around the corner, but there is always the weekends and over holidays. $5,000 seems like an awful lot of money, but I suppose tutition for the program is included and that's why it's so expensive. My recent trip cost only $2,000 and I was there for a month and I actually received some money back. All I can say is FUNDRAISE, FUNDRAISE, FUNDRAISE!!! I'm not the fundraising type either, but for both of my trips, I was told I couldn't go unless I fundraised at least half of my trip. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I haven't logged in for a while but I'll keep checking back. Good luck with your fundraising Liz

Wow. Very very cool. Already in europe myself. I say if you come to England expect it to rain lots As for fundraising I'd advise to do what my friend is doing to raise £3000, which according to investing.reuters.co.uk/Investing/Currencies.aspx?src=googleSEM is $5705.70 and get together with other people to do bigger things and split the money you make. I'll ask him what kind of stuff they did and get back to you.

Ack! Alright, so it's very nearly almost official! I'm going! My wonderful grandparents have put up all the money---Now I just have to pay them back! Thanks so much for all of your imput! Nikki--I'll take loads of pictures for you. Isabelle--I play the flute, I'll be there for nearly a month, and yes to host families. Our luggage can't be over 30 pounds, which will definitely put a damper on my choices, and test my packing abilities! I've written numerous letters to local businesses, and just have to send them out! I'll be trying for scholorships, and writing to the paper to see if I can't get an article on the topic, so that more people will be aware; there's another girl from the area going for choir and she's got an article, so I figure... EP--I would give nearly anything to visit England! Everyone who's been on the trip says that you'll see so many castles that you get sick of them, but I can't being to imagine that happening! The division of concert band that I'm looking at being a part of is doing a week-long exchange-ish-thingy with lots of French teens who are also involved in the arts, which is why it costs nearly three-hundred dollars more. Sigh. But I'm looking forward to it! ! Thanks so much for all the advice--If I have any other questions, I totally know where to go! lol <3
