Hi guys this may have been posted elsewhere but I probably missed it! Anyway it looks like there are set to be two new films with the lovely Maggie in for 2007! The first being Becoming Jane - A biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman. There's tons of people in this including Maggie, Anne hathaway, Julie Walters, James Cromwell www.imdb.com/title/tt0416508/And another where Maggie plays the lead character! Captureing Mary - A young man (Wynter) ushers an older woman (Smith) into a dark exploration of her past - back to the time when, as a young girl, she met a stranger who affected her life forever. (sounds a tad ike my house in umbria). And David Williams (Little britain) is in it?! Creepy ! www.imdb.com/title/tt0899052/

Becoming Jane is finished. I saw a clip on film 2006. It was a big ballroom scene with lots of big names.. Mags wasn't in the clip though.. :-(

Oh I can't wait for the Austen. Although it seems odd that Anne Hathaway would play Jane. Maybe that's just me.

Maggie Smith is a great actress!
Does anyone have any pictures of her when she was younger? I just want to see what she looked like in her previous films.

Laura I think they do that with a lot of British films now to give them more appeal in America, like Sliding Doors or the Bridget Jones'. Its all about the Box Office... dabao the Leaky Cauldron has a selection of older Maggie pics. Or the website fabulousdames.com has a HUGE archive of pics..have fun.. ;D

hmmm yeah she does have a bit of box office appeal, but she's a pretty bland actress I think. She was great in Brokeback Mountain, but in Devil Wears Prada, I think she pretty well failed at her job. She was supposed to be the heroine of the film and I found Meryl Streeps character much more appealing. f they were going to go with an American, I can think of many other actresses who would have been a better fit IMHO oh and dabao, try those two and also check out www.damemaggiesmith.com/ they've got a bunch, and thats where my avater pic came from

I do like Anne Hathaway. I just thought that this would be a great opportunity for a British actress, but I suppose you are right Jaye. We'll have to see how she does. I can't wait! At least with her in the role it will get more play here. Keeping Mum was at one theatre for a week and a half and that was it.

I like Anne Hatheway, sort of. I love alot of movies she's been in, but it tends to be because of other people(ie Julie Andrews in PD, Meryl Streep in Devil etc) so I'm curious, but a bit nervous. Hopefully the supporting cast will be good enough to help her out, which give nthe cast list seems entirely plausible

I'm eager to see it...regardless of the actress. It just seems a bit unfair for an American girl to get to do the part of Jane Austen when I'm sure a lot of British girls would have wanted to do it.

I agree completly..there are lots of young British actresses that would have been perfect for the part. I've only seen Anne Hathaway in PD1+2 so I can't really picture her in this. misshoneychurch the supporting cast does look great. Even if she's not great Mags, Julie Walters and James McEvoy will carry the film.
