Sorry to dissapoint, but IM TOTALLY HER FANGIRL! I have loved her characters in Sister Act, David Copperfiled, and HP. BEcause of this I have done what I can to gain as many of her movies as I can. Whether its a lead role, Prime of Jean Brodie, or some little five minute role, First Wives Club. I absolutely love her. She is one of the best there is in the field. I actually wrote a papper on her this year, my first as a college freashmen, and got an A! My teacher said my take on her made her want to see more of Maggie, and that she was going to use the paper to teach with! Maggie has been typecasy since the late 80's as an old 'I think I'm better than you' lonely woman. But she does it beautifully. She's also one of the funniest actresses out thier. I crack up more than half the time she says something. She's just so quick on the uptake. She's a true genius in the art. And a Legend!

I'm not really a fangirl of hers because I don't know that much about her.

i hate to tell you this but, I'm obsessed with Maggie Smith! I think I watched almost every movie she was ever in. I don't go to see a movie just because she is in it, though, but I will go see a movie if i like the plot and if Maggie Smith is in it then it's just a bonus!

I'll admit now, I'm think I'm moving on from my Maggie Smith 'phase.' She's brilliant, and because of her performance as Wendy in 'Hook' she'll always be an extremely good actress in my mind, but I won't go looking for films with her in it, or see one because she's in it.
I've been corrupted; now it's B'n'B ... so uncool.

I might as well call myself a lucky Maggie fangirl, 'cause I was "brave" enough to suck in my guts and write a flattering letter to her. And in return, she sent me her signed picture. My aunt's giving me "Ladies in Lavender" as a little gift. ;D LUCKY! I'm not one to spend extra dollars to see Maggie act, but I do love her in Harry Potter. She is one of my favorite actresses and I do Google her occasionally.

wow, that sounds highly weird. But i do have so much Maggie stuff, including California Suite and Keeping Mum. Keeping Mum ought to be in the video rental - it is not that old.

Okay, some writing tips:
1. Start with respect 2. A bit of sincere flattery 3. Get to the "Can I have..." 4. Probably a nice closing
I started off with the "I admire you" *not I am in love with you, get your mind off that notion!!!*, "I know but I didn't quite see all your movies", and "Can I have your picture?"
Depending on your location: if UK, about a couple of days to a week, if rest of the world, about three to four weeks tops. I received mine one month after the initial letter, nearly seven years ago (2001)...
Here we go, don't be shy, write to her and see... ;D

Bad news folks.........I have grown in my movie obssesion! Every time I go to Dothan I look for one of her movies. I have a pretty good collection going on. I just added two more this weekend.
I hope she gets better, she's like my all time favorite lady. She tops on my all time favs., and fav. British actors/actresses. She is absolutely wonderful.
The address...is that where the Harry Potter fan mail for her goes too? Is she really the one that answered you or did one of her people?
And I'd like to say, I go to and rent and buy movies jst because she's in them. I know I'm repeating but she's awesome, she deserves to be gushed over!

Well, I am 46, so that does exclude me from the "girls" - but I rent or buy all the movies she is in, just because of that, and when I spent 5 days in London last week I had my daughter take my picture putting my hand into her handprints at her plaque on Leicester Square I would have spent an irresponsible sum on a ticket, if only she would have been on stage somewhere (I don't expect to ever be so lucky to see her, but keep hoping anyway...). But I would never try to find her house or something - and I am not sure, if I would be brave enough to wait at a theater back door: I would be so afraid, that she wouldn't like it... I am still battling with myself about that writing to her: "Admiral" - you really did?? wow! (I just noticed, you gave the adress? - maybe I work up the courage to write too, one day ?) I loved the character Minerva from the moment, I came across her in the first book - and when years later Maggie was the one to play her in the movies ...you can imagine how happy that made me!
