Because I'm not, and I feel... surrounded. And alone. I mean, I think she's great as Minerva and that she's an OK actress (she has a slight tendency to play herself, but she's alright), but I would never see a movie just because her name was attached to it. So am I alone here or what?

I wouldn't consider myself anyone's fangirl. She does good work and, with the prestige she rightly or wrongly has, most of the films she does place her in the company of actors of a higher than average caliber. I have to read a review or hear good things about a film before I sacrifice $10-$12 before snacks to see any film. That's just how I muddle through life.

I did see Keeping Mum because she was in it. I don't remember why... And I would go and see her in a play if she ever came here (she did a few years ago and I didn't know. I = sad), but yeah, I wouldn't say I was a fangirl.
I am, however, a Judi Dench fangirl, so I've seen Maggie in, I think, two movies with Judi. Ladies in Lavender and Tea with Mussoulini. Neither movie is a favourite of mine and I didn't particularly like Maggie's role in either.
Edit: Referring to Maggie's role in LiL, I didn't mean her acting, I meant the character itself.

I love Maggie Smith, but wouldn't consider myself a fangirl. She was completely typecast after Hook and is definitely not who I saw as Minerva (perhaps thirty-or-so years ago she would have been perfect. Jean Brodie anyone?) She is brilliant though, I don't think anyone could refute that. I've never seen a film and thought 'so-and-so could have done it better.'

Her age has a bearing on her roles as well. Let's face it, roles just don't pour in when you're seventy some-odd years old. You're essentially a happy granny, or a strict/grumpy/crazy, old bat most of the time. It's unfortunate, but the acting community is tough on older women. Kudos to her for getting something.

I question my own likes sometimes. I downloaded Jean Brodie because of Dame Maggie was in it becasue I liked other things I've seen her in (Gosford Park and California Suite). I agree that she often plays herself, but I think I like that. I wouldn't go to a movie only because she was in it, but I've heard a lot of good things about her on stage, and I think I would go see a play becasue she was in it if I had the oportunity. Does that a fan girl make?

I'm not a fangirl, but she is amazing. Completely and utterly. She makes the Harry Potter films for me because she is Minerva. She doesn't play herself... she's just good at what she does. If anything, I'm a Julie Andrews fangirl.

I'm not a fangirl,by quite a long shot-the only Maggie films I've seen are the five HP films and Richard III,and I had to watch that in school. However I do think she's a great actress, absolutely brilliant as Minerva. Regarding theatre, if she came up to do a play somewhere in Wales I could actually get to,I'd go and see it.

I am ;D
pffft, I've loved everything she's done. I would go and see a movie just because she was in it because I know she makes the roles interesting.
I am not, however, a mmad shipper because of her... ): I genuinely love the character of Minerva, not because Maggie Smith plays her. That would be really creepy<3

I'm not a fangirl, although I do love her as Minerva and I do prefer the HP films because she is in them. I've never really seen much else of her though I had to watch Richard III in school as well. Didn't like it I have to say. I was to see Keeping Mum but I never got round to it, so I'm hardly an obsessed fangirl lol. I do like Sister Act though. And I have been known to burst into song in the middle of the street because of it. But that hardly makes me a fangirl, although I do think she is a good actress and I have become more of a fan since being on the board as well

I just think it depends on how we all define "fangirl" - but I totally would stand in the street with my friends with a fan sign and matching shirts after one of her shows given the chance ;D

well I am most definatly a fangirl, but I think it may just be in the fact that when I like someone, I love them. I'm not really a person for moderation I tend to hate, love or not notice. Ambivalence is not really in my nature

Okay, I consider myself a fangirl cuz I would go and see a movie just because she is in it. But I don't like all of her work. I love her as McGonagall, but some of her older stuff is iffy. I am still working on seeing all of her movies to beside. lol. That sounds way fangirly, but yeah. I like her work, but I know there are better people out there. I mainly love her cuz McGonagall is my fav. character and I think she plays her extreamly well.

I'm kind of a Maggie Smith fangirl. At heart I'm a Miranda Richardson fangirl (I'm going to see Fred Claus just because of Miranda. Which is a questionable decision, but I don't care.).
It's hard to say if she plays herself or if she's just always typecast. I think it's the latter judging by the old movies I've seen with her, like Othello and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie [ ♥ ].
But I do think that Maggie Smith is a fantastic actress. I've always found that even if her character is annoying or bitchy or whatever, I really enjoy the character, like in Gosford Park. I don't know if this is technically a good sign or not, but it's not my job to decide who's the best actor so it doesn't matter; I can like who I like. ^_^

I think all fangirls are great. I see them all the time at the theatre I work at. Never for me, they're all over the lead actors and what not (And rightly so! Those guys work *hard*) And as for me, I believe I'm everyone's fangirl, I really do. So if you ever need a fangirl, here I am.

I don't think she plays herself, and I think she's brilliant, but I'm not a fangirl. I try to keep my obsessions on fiction and not on real people, because if I was famous, I would hate people thinking on everything I do and might do all the time. That would be creepy. I think part of the only reason I watch the films now is for the fleeting glimpses of her. It was the only reason I saw Ootp. But that's not because of Maggie, but because of Minerva. When I read the seventh book, my Mum actually asked someone at work if Min was in it more becuase I was getting stressed about her almost total absence and was worried she wouldn't be in it. (I think Mum was concerned about how it would affect my exams if I lost sleep angsting over it.)
p.s. sorry about any spelling, the spell check isn't working at the moment.

I wouldn't call myself a fan girl, but I do love her roles in many recent movies. I think she's an amazing and talented actress, but I don't obsess.

I might as well call myself a lucky Maggie fangirl, 'cause I was "brave" enough to suck in my guts and write a flattering letter to her. And in return, she sent me her signed picture.
My aunt's giving me "Ladies in Lavender" as a little gift. ;D

Oh thats quite lucky Admiral Sun. I wouldnt say im a fan girl really, I do like her work but its not many films i've seen her in, so i like what I have seen so far. I dont make it necessary to see all her films either, simply no time for me, perhaps when Im old and gray I shall watch them all. BUt i do love her as Minerva. <3

Does stalking Maggie Smith until the end of time counts or it sounds incredibly absurd and crazy? Tell me if it is... Or crack my head open with a brick and give my brain a sponge bath...

I'm game! I mean, yes! But I am not exactly going to steal money from my parents, aren't I? Because stalking Maggie Smith is the number one thing I'm going to do once I set my feet in London... (In my own dreams, of course! Hahaha!) 'Nuff said... Bitchy or not, fantasizing about Maggie have become my sole guilty pleasure... She's the number one inspiration for my freaky Anglophile tendencies, the late Princess Diana ranks number two...

Maggie is amasing! She's my hero, seeing her play in hp actually made me whant to become an actriss, I mean, she's sooo good, And she's deffinitly not playing herself, expecialli minerva is like nothing of her other caracters. Admit it, you're in your 70s and you have loads of funs, most of them teens and young adults, really, that means you're a great actress, the best, i'd say. I admit, I wouldn't see a film only cause she's in it, though, if she is, that'l stop it from beeing a total blowof.
