Okay, I saw this on another message board and that person nicked it from another board....anyway...In OotP while they are cleaning Grimmauld Place they find.."a heavy locket that none of them could open..."
It's page 116 in the US version. (Chapter 6) Very interesting.....
(Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it)

Good one! Wasn't that in Kreacher's possession? It would fit if RAB was Regulus Black.
Rowling has always insisted that she's planted clues all along. It seems like Voldemort plants his horcruxes in places significant in some way to him.
Multi-book scavenger hunt? Good thread to start. Or make a game by forming teams, have a set time to gather clues, publish team results on same day and see which team gets most clues or objects?

Very cool indeed. Now I'm trying to remember any cups there might have been mentioned elsewhere. I just re-read CoS before HBP came out. Now, looks like I'll have to re-read all of 'em.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I should really start with book one and read them all again.
Good point, April, btw. Had totally forgotten about that one though I had read OotP just before HBP came out. And I have to agree with you, the longer one thinks about the book, the more one likes it. (wrong thread, I know, sorry).
Love, Rikki

I hadn't thought of that idea. The locket would have to have been in the cave when whoever stole the real Horcrux, though. If the note Harry found in the locket was true, then the person would have been dead long before the locket in Grimmauld Place could have been used. Just my thoughts.

You guys could really be on to something .. although I can't see why Regulus would destroy it .. and I also cab't see when he would have the chance .. but it is all very very interesting .. I really do want to know who R.A.B. is for sure .. I wonderif we will find out in the next book? ..

Well, Regulus, from what I understand, joined the Death Eaters and then didn't like what he'd gotten into so tried to leave, but Voldemort had him killed. What if before he left, or was killed, he replaced the locket in the cave? If R.A.B. is Regulus and he hid the locket at Grimmauld Place, then is it still there or is that one of the things that Mundungus took from the house to sell?
Also, the HP Lexicon says that Regulus died the same year Harry was born and the Prophecy was made (1980). So the locket would have to have been replaced before that.

Here is another reason why Regulus may be R.A.B., during Harry's lessons with Snape in Book 5 Snape kept calling Voldemort the Dark Lord. Harry asked him why then claimed that he only heard the Death Eaters call Voldemort the Dark Lord. The note from R.A.B. is addressed "To the Dark Lord". And Regulus was a Death Eater.

That makes sense the locket was bugging me. It makes sense if the one found in the drawing room of Grimmauld Place is the Slytherin locket. But wouldnt there be a curse on the locket like there was on the ring?

I think it depends. Remember the diary. Lucuis, Harry, and Ginny were all able to touch the diary without an repercussions. The damage to Albus's hand wasn't in holding the ring (remember he is wearing it when they met Slughorn) but in retrieving it. (I would imagine getting the ring was similar to trying to get the locket.)

Do you think we might be able to find anything else in 12 Grimmauld Place? If Regulus Black was searching, he may have found more than one, I think that's the first place I'd start look for clues if I were Harry.

I think the chance of R.A.B. being Regulus is very high. In the interview posted on Mugglenet, JKR says something about it being him...let me see if I can find it...here it is (MA is one of the interviewers): MA: R.A.B. JKR: Ohhh, good. [All laugh.] JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes? MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far? [Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here] JKR: Do you have a theory? MA: We've come up with Regulus Black. JKR: Have you now? MA: Uh-oh. [Laughter.] JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess. I don't know if that means yes it is him but I would like to think it is a definite nod in that direction. They go on to ask about the mirror (the one Sirius gave Harry). OOTP, page 108 British hard cover kiddie edition:
"There was... a heavy locket none of them could open..."
So the locket is in the room they cleaned up while staying at GP in the summer.
This has to be one of the most subtle clues JKR ever gave us, she deserves all the kudos for this one. And RAB must be Regulus after this revelation. Question is: how will they open the locket?
