A/N: Another of the fanfic100 prompts. I had to get this one out of the way. Thanks for reading!
Disclaimer: Don't own it. If I did, I wouldn't feel guilty about writing this instead of my paper for class.
“Min, I’m serious. I want to talk about this.”
“It’s pointless. It’s not going to happen any time soon and I for one don’t want to think about it.”
“Please, just listen?”
“Hmph. Well, go on.”
“I love you and I have been so happy with you but when I di-“
“If you die before me!”
“No, Minerva, when I die before you, I want you to be happy with someone else. Find someone to share your love with, please.”
“Albus, that is ridicu-“
“Promise me.”
“Albus. No.”
“Please?”
“Fine. You know I can’t say no to you for long. I just don’t know how I would manage to find another as wonderful as you, but if I did, I promise I’ll do as you ask.”
As Minerva McGonagall-Dumbledore waited at the door, she reflected on her promise made nearly seventy years before. When Albus died, just days after their forty-fifth wedding anniversary, she had thought her heart would never recover, but in time it had. Now she found herself ready to make good on her promise to him.
As the music changed, the doors to the small church opened and Minerva, dressed in traditional white, made her way down the aisle. She found that although she still loved Albus as much as ever, she could and did love again. She was ready to commit herself to another, as she had to Albus so long ago, and to begin this next adventure until it was time to join Albus in the greatest adventure of all.
A/N: An HBP reaction was my first inclination for this prompt, but still after all this time, I can't write about it. I hope you enjoyed this. Thank you for reading! OSUSprinks
