In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Professor Slughorn introduces his Potions class to Amortentia – the most powerful love potion in the world. According to Hermione, “It’s supposed to smell differently to each of us, according to what attracts us.”
The Leaky Cauldron’s Valentine’s Day challenge was to select any character from the Harry Potter books and tell what that character would smell and why. I chose Minerva McGonagall. Here is what she would smell and why.
#36 Smell – Hot Chocolate, Lemon Sherbet, and …
Minerva McGonagall smiled to herself. She had just gotten a whiff of the wonderful combination of lemon sherbet, hot chocolate, and mint that she loved. She knew Albus Dumbledore was close by.
Many years ago, in Professor Slughorn’s potions class, she had made the Amortentia Potion. When finished, she had smelled an odd, but delightful scent, and had realized that she was in love with Professor Dumbledore. She understood the first two smells, hot chocolate and lemon sherbet. After all, the whole school knew of his great fondness of those. It was only after she became Deputy Headmistress, that she learned he relished mint shampoo because of the tingle it gave his scalp when he washed his hair.
She felt a pair of arms come around her from behind, and leaned backwards, nestled securely in Albus’ warm embrace and savored the wonderful scents she had loved for so many years.
