We don't even have a release date or price, but it's already begun! I work at Barnes & Noble and today we got an email telling us we can start taking reservations for it. I was rather surprised at this, but I guess they want to get a jump on it.
I also saw on Leaky that AmazonUK and other sites are taking pre-orders now as well.
And so it begins...

yep, Amazon in the US is taking reservations for orders and has been for awhile...I'm not going to go through them though. I'll find a bookstore nearby that's having a Potter party and make reservations with them so I can get it at midnight! I've only ever done that twice before for these books, but it was fun both times!

Wow, already? Hmm. I want to do the Potter party thing too, but I'd like a fellow HP fan friend to go with me. I've never done it before.

I went to a bookstore fro GoF dressed as Mrs Weasley and one of my friends came with me at the last minute, but he didn't dress up. I also went to a small bookstore in PA for HBP becasue I was leaving early the next morning to go home and I would have had to wait to get it.

I'm looking forward to our Midnight party, whenever that turns out to be. I'm going to try dressing up as Minerva. :-P Of course, I'll be working, so I can't party too much!

I just order the newest book from Amazon about two days before the release (how boring am I?!). I did buy #6 myself in Austria... there weren't that many queues, perhaps because only the English version was released. I think my parents would probably let me wait in line if I wanted to. I'm just always zonked. I don't have any dress-up costumes either, although for merchandise I do occasionally steal my brother's "Godric Gryffindor" replica sword (the design of which just screams "mass production")... and there's always the plush Hedwig, the two little mini owls with "Harry Potter" tags, and the dolls that look nothing like Harry, Ron and Hermione. You'll definitely do a great job as Min. Make sure you send in some pics!

Hmm. I will probably go to buy it at midnight in a supermarket and stay up all night reading it. Not a party though.

sadly, I am as of now broke, so no pre-ordering for me, as my mom won't give me the cash.... though she and I will probably get it at midnight and fight over it once we get home

Well, if you live in the US and are near a Barnes & Noble, you can put a copy on reserve without paying for it, if you want to pick it up in the store. You only pay for it if you want to shipped to your home. I work for Barnes & Noble, so I'm not sure how Borders is doing their preorders, but I'm sure it's the same thing. My store, last I checked, had over 500 preorders.

I never pre order mine because my step dad works at Costco so he always gets mine, which is great. I have a reserved copy every time. ~mmadlyinlove~

Wal-Mart. I go at midnight, because it's an overnight supermarket, and just buy it there. Then I go home and read until my bloody eyes fall out.
Or until I have work. Either one.

I've pre-ordered mine from AMAZON!!! Never mine if it will cost extra. I want that book. Without the crowds, thank you very much.

I'm in Beijing at the moment and will still be here on the 21st. So last Sunday I went and pre-ordered my copy of DH at the Foreign Languages Bookstore. The best thing about it: when it's midnight in Britain it's 7 am in Beijing and I won't even have to read all night as I did last time.
For book six I was in England and got it at midnight at my local Waterstones, playing 'pass the parcel' and other silly little games with a roomful of costumed nine year-olds. It was fun ...
