I promise the fandom will not die. My other fave fandom is the original Star Trek series. It ended decades ago, and people still write fanfic. HP's insane popularity definitely rivals Trek (IMHO), and will be around for a long while. It's a small let-down, but at the same time I can't wait to see what JKR writes next. I've heard rumors of an HP encyclopedia, so that should be interesting. And who knows? Maybe she'll start another, completely different series. I'm curious to see what she comes up with next.
Edit: You know what I'd like to see? A Tom Riddle sreies. His descent into evil. I think that would be a really interesting (though very dark) read.

I agree with gingerrose. It would be interesting to see a Tom Riddle series, but I dont think it would be as interesting. I would read it, but I probably wouldnt be as intereseted as the Harry Potter books. I dont think that she is going to be able to top Harry Potter, but she can always try. lol. I want to know what happeneds sssooo bad!

I am excited because I want to know what happens but afraid that the HP fan sites won't be the same. Unfortunately, the book comes out right before finals.

I am extremely excited but also a little saddened already because all the suspense will be lost. And I am worried that HP fanfiction will suffer as well. I guess those who ship rather unconventional pairings (I'm thinking Draco/Harry, Harry/Snape, Hermione/Draco) will not be affected in their writing, if their chosen ship is not confirmed, but those who like us here ship ADMM will probably feel a bit downtrodden if it is not confirmed. And then maybe the amount of good ADMM fics we see will decrease. At a time where fanfiction will be all that's left to look forward to in HP terms ...

I know what you mean. It's going to be difficult, but I tend to believe that the MMAD crowd is devoted! Also, there's going to be more plot to write with! More ideas, more inspiration, more details to work around! Since when has JKR stopped us >D bwahaha. I mean, she killed off one of the characters in our couple and we still moved on with dignity and have kept going since! Also, there has been a lot of great fanfiction to come out of book 6. I don't like angst, I feel like there's too much of it in life already and dwelling on it makes it worse, but some of the angst that I have read coming out of book 6 has been incredibly moving and realistic. I have total faith in us, even if the plot doesn't go the way we want it to. But I really think she's aware of fanfiction, and she might have even realized that they were destined to have a past. Who knows... maybe we are right! I don't know anybody who would deny that they've made it incredibly obvious (they being the movie producers, the actors, and even on occasion JKR herself) I have such faith in this ship, that we'll be able to find creativity from any situation that presents itself in the book. (and also: I really hope that we are right. Could you imagine if we were? Suddenly all sorts of people would come up with great new fics, some people who have written really 'out there' ships could bring some of their ideas into the MMAD circle. It could really be great!) JKR is brilliant and I love her and her work, but I also think that our ship has the greatest risk-reward thing going on. Our ship will either be confirmed or denied in the next book but it doesn't even matter because it's been great and I really think that it'll continue to be great. Somewhere, in some universe, Minerva and Albus are meant to be together. Even if it's just our small circle!

I won't mind if our ship is not confirmed in the book, as long as it is not denied. I mean, sure, I'll be slightly disappointed, but as long as Minerva isn't/wasn't with anyone (especially Snape!!) or Albus wasn't with anyone!

Aw, what a sad thread . I agree though - it is really quite weird to see the Harry Potter series coming to an end at last. I was about ten years old when I started reading, now I'm nineteen... I guess I'm really one of those kids who grew up alongside Harry, in a way, and I'll miss it. The HP fandom is what got me into the internet too, and it's gained me so many friends along the way. I agree with what gingerrose said though - I don't think the Harry Potter fandom will die that easily. The popularity certainly rivals Star Trek and I mean, my dad watched that in the 70s and people still write fic to it! Also, don't any of you think I'll ever allow this board to disappear !
