SPOILER ALERT!! * * * * * * * EEK! I've just read on Leaky that JK has said that she will do the encyclopedia, but the accompanying link tells us something more about our favourite witch and her future at Hogwarts... today.msnbc.msn.com/id/19935372/Ageist, that's what it is

NOT FAIR about Minerva!! *grumbles* That's cool that she's thinking about it, though.

I like the idea of an encylopedia but I dont know if I want to read it if McGonagall doesnt get a chance to be headmistress. Oh so she's older. She's only 70! Albus was 150 !s it just me or does she not get what she deserves?

fas;lkfj;alkfjda;flja; - This is great news! And yeah... the McGonagall mention was just odd. Didn't Jo refer to her as "sprightly" several years ago? You can't degenerate from "sprightly" to "really getting on a bit" in that span of time...
And I'm glad Mr. Weasley didn't get the ax. I wouldn't have been able to handle that!
Still. I can't wait for this. ;D

Oooh, how encouraging it is that she came out with confirmation of the encyclopoedia so soon after finishing DH!
Hmmm Minerva 'getting on a bit?' :S

Yay, Potterpedia! *does dance* To remedy the badness that was that epilogue. Yay.
And I think she means that Hogwarts has a new Head after the nineteen years. Which would make sense. Minnie'd be what? 109ish? Yah, I'd want to retire at that age, too. Granted, Dumbledore was 150, but he was obviously an inordinately powerful wizard.

Oh, that is awesome she is writing an encyclopedia, but what does she mean, Min is "getting on a bit"?? Maybe it's because of the trauma of the Final Battle? I dunno, but it will be nice to know what happened to everyone else.

I hope her reference to Minerva getting on in years was after the 19 because if it is before that, then that really isn't fair. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to the Encyclopedia if she writes it though. I've been very happy with the seventh book, especially because our ship wasn't sunk. I'm not sure I want to give her one more opportunity to sink it, yet it would be nice to know the backstories. I'm torn because the more she tells the better in one sense and the less in another, I rather like my imagination to do some work...particularly if it includes Albus and Minerva! Christy

Agreed -- it really isn't fair if Minerva doesn't have her chance at being Headmistress. I think she'd be GREAT! And after having taught there all those years, been Dumbledore's Deputy for so long, and weathered all those awful years loyal to Hogwarts, to Dumbledore, and to the care of the students, it would be a travesty if she weren't to be Headmistress after Snape. Dippet was no spring chicken, nor was Phineas Nigellus Black, and since witches and wizards are so much longer lived than Muggles, the fact that she's somewhere in her seventies at the end of DH should not be a hindrance. After all, if Dumbledore became Headmaster in about 1956 or '57 or thereabouts, he would be over 115, given the fact that in one of her interviews, JKR says he's 150. I assume that's at the time of the book that was out at that point, which means AD was born around 1840. No matter how extraordinary Albus was (and I am a HUGE Dumbledore fan -- TREMENDOUS, in fact), it seems unlikely that he'd be that much more lively at 115 than Minerva would be at about 75-ish -- or even 80-ish! Sheesh! I don't know . . . I think JKR should take some time to fall back in love with her characters before she does an encyclopedia. It seemed to me that by the time she wrote DH, the only one that she still retained really strong affection for was Harry . . . the others kind of were flat. Well, I'm just going to keep writing my fics as AU anyway, so I suppose it doesn't matter -- as long as folks keep reading and enjoying what I write. But if JKR does an encyclopedia and it does things like out-and-out contradict ADMM, I will not be happy. Hopefully, it will only expand on what's already known, not add things, like Hermione's Snape's love-child by Rose Granger! (BTW, I thought Rose and Hugo, the HGRW offspring, might have been named after some of Hermione's relatives, maybe her parents.)

I have decided that I am going to read Minerva's back story (if she even gets into the Potterpedia) and then if it's worthwhile, I'll buy the book. If not, I rely on the Lexicon.

Jo has got to take a break ... what does she mean by 'getting on a bit'?!?! *glares* I read this in the newspaper a long time back and was in a very foul mood by the time I finished. Hmm, I will look forward to the Potterpedia; but if JK tries to sink our ship again, I'll have my knives sharpened (only kidding, Jo - I do not hate you - but you do irritate me). I do hope she includes McG's backstory in the book ... Cheers!
