"He's a funny man, Dumbledore. I think he sort of wanted to give me a chance. I think he knows more or less everything that goes on here, you know. I reckon he had a pretty good idea we were going to try, and instead of stopping us, he just taught us enough to help. I don't think it was an accident he let me find out how the mirror worked. [glow=red,2,300]It's almost like he thought I had the right to face Voldemort if I could[/glow]..." (SS/PS, Chapter 17, p. 302, U.S. edition)
I've been thinking about this quote for awhile--in PS, Harry really realizes that Dumbledore is omniscient. This continues through all the books and really shows itself in Snape's memory where Dumbledore is telling Snape what to do to help Harry and what the consequences will be. What I'm wondering is--where does Dumbledore get his foresight? Is he just extraordinarily perceptive or does he have some Seer blood? Any thoughts?

I think he's just that supposed genius-in-the-white-tower sort who has been around a lot and really understands things ;D I think that's all he was intended to be. It's probably that because he didn't foresee what would happen to Snape in the process in book seven.
(Plus, he's not allowed to have any divination-like characterstics because Minerva wouldn't like him if that were the case... lol<3)

I agree, I think.
That said, maybe a fanfic could be written about Albus being a seer. Maybe that's why Minerva is so scathing of Trelawny, because she has the real thing right in front of her.
(N.B. I don't actually believe this, but it could make a good ff.)

I don't think it has anything to do with the Inner Eye (he didn't like divination when he was interviewing Professor Trelawney).
He's God. =]

LOL. I don't think Dumbeldore is a Seer, just because in the books J.K Rowling never writes that Seers are a good thing, I mean Trelawney's the only one we meet and she's just a joke, and then Firenze is very anti-Seer in humans as well. Dumbledore is always written to be the best, the kindly old man with kick-ass powers that even Voldermort's afraid of. So I don't think J.K Rowling would make him a Seer, not when she's spoken against them like she has in the series. I think he's just a guy who's been around the block a few times and has learnt to understand people and situations along the way. That turned into a rant. Terribly sorry.

Well, DUH, Pingpongfreak. She meant BESIDES that. I recommend we found a Church of Dumbledore. And Blue, I agree that Dumbledore isn't a Seer, but I wouldn't say that Jo has been entirely consistent over the Divination thing. Trelawney is painted as an idiot over and over again, only to turn out to have made a prophecy which dictates Harry and Voldemort's futures. As for Dumbledore not liking Divination... I seem to remember that he didn't believe in the TEACHING of it. I'm thinking that Jo's position, when put together with Trelawney's status in the books, is that perhaps it's simply something that cannot and should not be taught... ... Though I can't see Jo staring into a crystal ball any time soon LOL. (And so speaks the resident pagan!).

And anyway, I don't think the fact that the prophecy turned out to be true means that Jo's declaring her belief in clairvoyance or whatever. In fact, I'd be highly doubtful of that! Yay! I bags the High Priestess position.
