I thought Stormangel might not be the only one who has trouble with cropping. I'm explaining how to do it in GIMP here, but it's similar in Photoshop. (If anyone wants a separate explanation of how to do it in Photoshop, though, just say so.)
Please excuse the large images, but I wanted everything to be easy to make out.
If something isn't clear, please ask. Oh, and be aware that it's takes a lot of practice to get really good at this. But once you've managed, it's one of the best features of image-editing programs. This way, you can crop pictures much easier, cleaner and faster than with the eraser.
