Ratings M. disclamer. Another day older and deeper in debt. Summery: The continuing story of Fuadiddles, a spell gone wrong. Can Minerva's happyness be saved by the true love in her life or is her past lost to her forever?
Chapter one...
Minerva sat in her room slowly brushing her copper hair that she normaly kept in a tight bun. Her world was going mad, quite mad. She closed her eyes, remembering the last time that she felt happy there at the house- There were so many things she wanted to tell Albus- so many things she wanted to show him- yet her heart was breaking. How could he even think, as he was? how could she have let things get so out of control so fast?
She sighed. The easter break would be over in a week, and she had to decide if she was going to stay at Hogwarts, or leave-
She closed her eyes and then felt a brush of something against her cheak. She opened her eyes and there, in a beautiful crystal vase was a perfect white rose. Its scent wafed through her room calming her. She had no idea where it came from- white roses were forbidden in her area- but- it was beautiful. She didn't know how it got to her room there- with out her seeing or hearing anything.
She slid away from where she was sitting and looked around. Only the gentle movement of the curtain in the brease ...

Minerva regarded the perfect Yorkshire white rose. Since the battle of Stoke in 1487, all white roses had been dug up, and destroyed by the house of Tudor that had crushed all attempts for the crown to be given to its rightful heirs. Only pictures of them had survived, somehow, and she had secretly loved the beautiful florabunda rose that was legend to bloom even in the harshest of weather.
While the war was many century's ago, the house of Tudor had made its wishes known, the roses were a symbol of rebellion and were not tolerated within its Territory's. 10,000 Yorks had died within one battle, defeated by an army half its size. They had lost their king that day and the world would never be the same. There was noted bravery that followed, men who tried to regain the rights of the land- but they were made slaves of the crown later- the final crush to those who believed in freedom.
The rose was perhaps a summery of her life, in her quiet rebellion against what her father wanted her to do. She could manage single quite well, she had thought- and she had. Her ideal of freedom, if a rose could grow so beautiful in adversity, could not she?
Her hair down, she stood and wrapped her dressing gown tight against her thin frame, her eyes scanning the room. She knew Albus did not need a cloak to become invisible. yet she did not sense him there. Taking a breath, she went down stairs to the study where she found Albus regarding the collection of works her father had penned over the years. He was holding one and saw her. he put it back and smiled as she entered into the room.
Not surprising, she saw that the very book he held was the history of the war of the roses. She put her hand on his. "Do you realize how dangerous it is just to have a single blossom of that rose in the house?" she asked in a hushed whisper. He regarded her. " Pardon?" Minerva stepped back, uncertain. "The rose- thats upon my dressing table, you did not send it?"
Albus looked bemused "Would you have wished me to have sent it?" She lifted her hand up, feeling- helpless. "I don't know. but if I were to be hung for treason, at least let it be for the reason of love." She swallowed then fled the room.
Dashing the tears from her eyes she hurried back to her room. Her father coming down the hall saw her state and hurried to her side. "Child whats the matter?" he asked. She shook her head and pulled back, and entered her room. He heard her shriek of surprise and followed. There were white roses everywhere- huge vases that hung heavy stood on every square inch of her room. She turned back into her fathers arms. "I am going mad father- truly mad! do you see them? I am going mad" she sobbed.
"I see them child. " he said softly. "I see them." He escorted her to the room next to hers and guided her to the bed. "Rest here child, I will see to matters." he said kissing her for head.
Minerva's eyes closed upon their own accord as she drifted to sleep. He hurried back to her room where he closed and locked the door. While his staff was loyal, there were somethings even they would have to report. He hurried down to where Albus was looking out the window.
"I say, what the blazes do you intend with all those roses?"
Albus looked at him, startled and a bit confused. "Your daughter asked the same thing, I truly do not know what your referring to"
"you didn't send them?" her father asked, then, grasping the edge of Albus's robe, lead him to Minerva's bedroom where they opened the door and saw-
nothing.
Minerva's scream jarred their astonishment, and a few quick strides took Albus to her side where her father was astonished that the roses had left Minerva's room and traveled to fill this room.
She clung to Albus, who looked around. Minerva surrounded by the roses was the most beautiful sight he had ever encountered. Holding her in his arms, in that room made his heart burst with joy.
"Hush my love" he murmured She laid her head on his chest and clung to him. Albus would know what to do, he always did. She thought, comforted by his embrace.
she looked up at him. He lowered his mouth and kissed heir's gently.
Politely her father withdrew from the room. While he could have comforted his daughter, he was not the man at this time to do that....

Chapter three.
Minerva's father paced in the study. If Albus hadn't sent her the roses, who had? No bogart would have appeared as roses, nor could it have gone from one room to the other. His thoughts were interrupted by the brisk knock on the outside door. He was tempted to have the maid answer it, but, half of him told him that it indubitably was someone from the ministry.
It was, just not the person that he expected, nor was he someone that he could put off.
Arthur Weasly strode into the study and looked around as he removed his cap.
"Arthur, how good it is to see you. Drop of Brandy? " her father said indicating to the decanter. Arthur shook his head.
" No, thank you, still on duty. Gregory, there are some things, that we need to discuss about the contract with the house , and the recent uses of magic inside of it. "
"That was the esteemed minister himself..."
"We know. No, these have happened with in the last hour or so, and its directed at just a part of the house. Perkins, filled me in , on everything, He wanted to deal with this himself, but the minster has him chasing muggle baiter's- the locksmith again."
"Is this, an official visit Arthur?" Arthur Weasly shook his head. "Couldn't do that with out risking other things... Does, She know?"
Gregory straightened up then shook his head. "You believe that it's Minerva?- that- it's her time?"
Arthur nodded. He had known Minerva for many years, she had taught all of his children and had been their head of house for as long as he could remember. Being in the miss use department he had access to all of the tombs of all of the houses and what curses were placed on them century's ago.
"Even if she left now, it wouldn't change if its started. Its too late in her life to change things now. There isn't enough time to deal with everything that is going to happen to her. " he said looking her father straight in the eye. "The best that you could do for her now is empty the house of everyone, and then bolt the doors and windows, and - well, let it happen."
"I refuse to lose my daughter to some- pledge made century's before any of us were born!"
"Gregory, listen to me. Even if she was bonded, or married today, it's too late. Your family has tried to contain the magic in this area for too long, and while marrying her to a muggle may have worked decades ago - that he would have absorbed her magical powers- its beyond all of that. What will happen - will happen...Please, before the sun sets, the house must be empty ed of staff. tell them anything. Send them away, get the animals away with them, and I will help you put the wards up- Perhaps, in a century, it will be broken. " Despondent her father called the staff and informed them that they would be having the rest of the day off. None of them seemed upset, and with a gentle wave of his wand, Arthur made sure none of them would remember what had been going on in the last few days.
Minerva would be like a giant magnet that would attract every scrap of magic in the ground, in the town, and if they could not- make wards strong enough the magic would change her into what it willed. She would die as she knew her past life and be dead to all who knew her.
The only thing, that in the past that had saved the McGonagal women was marriage at a young age, as the founders of the town had stipulated, marriage to a muggle would have dampened her powers, children would have inherited it, so in the end she would have about as much magic as a squib.
There was a thought that tickled in the back of Gregory's mind as he and Arthur worked to ward every room so that it couldn't spread outside the house- what ever it became. It wasn't until they had sealed the upstairs and were going out the door that Arthur noticed Albus's cloak and hat. Gregory was pulling him out the door as they were hearing noises from the upstairs.
"But Albus is up there- you- you left him with her- didn't you?"
Firmly Gregory pulled the door closed and cast the final ward on it, and pulled him off the porch.
"It wouldn't matter anyway, He is dieing he told me so himself- if their friendship has kept this at bay all these years, she may still have a chance..."

Chapter Four
Minerva lay in Albus's arms comforted by his scent. There was a wisper among the flowers, Something moved and stirred them as the house fell silent. Minervas head rested against his chest as he held her- her ear pressed against him - hearing his heart beat...
Come into these arms again and lay your body down There is among this trembling heart, is beating like a drum.
It beats for you, It bleeds for you And knows not how it sounds.
For it is the drum of drums it is the song of songs Once I had the fairest rose that ever came to bloom Cruel winter chills arrive and stole my flower too soon.
Oh loneliness, oh hopelessness to search the ends of time. For there is in all the world No greater love than mine.
Love...still falls the rain. Still falls the night. Be mine forever.
Let me be the only one to keep you from the cold Now the flower fair as day, the stars of brightest tone.
They shine for you, They shine for you They burn for all to see.
Come into these arms again and set this spirit free. ( Love song for a vampire Anne Lennox)
Minerva fell limp in Albus's arms, her lips as pale as the roses that surrounded her- her skin translucent. All of the air seemed to have left her body. Albus laid her down upon her covers and sat on the edge of the bed. A misty light came swirling into the room- around the bed, around Minerva.
"Go" it wispered into his ear. "Go now" "no" he said clutching her cold hands "Please stay with me Minerva" he said bending down to lay his head upon her breast.
"I am nothing with out you my dearest, my love. I am only a man, but when i am with you , I am more. You are my life, my love, my hopes and future- for all the time that we have had, I would wish it be more- forever in love" Albus said holding on as the mists began to fill her body. Minerva began to breath again. At first this brought comfort to Albus, but, then, concern. Her eyes opened- and instead of her gentle green eyes, they were a light shining within, one that looked at him with cool indiference.
"Why didn't you go when we said to?" the being within Minerva asked curiously.
"Minerva is my friend. I will not abandon her."

Minerva closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath.
"It- feels so good, to breath again, to smell, to touch..." for a moment Albus regarded the woman he loved with all his heart. Was this still that same woman?
The eyes opened again.
"They left you here, you know- to this fate- to be - locked with in this building- it won't hold you know."
"Would it matter if it didn't?" Minerva sighed.
"perhaps not. Perhaps...Does that matter to you as well?"
"Oh everything matters to someone... Sherbert lemon?" he asked pulling a small bag from his pocket. He saw Minerva eye them curiously.
"She says they are foul nasty creations that withdraw the saliva from ones mouth... yet she knows you take delight in them and can not understand why."
"It is a falacy of wisdom. that which is pretty, that which is too sweet, or too sour to bear. One must always question that and in the end, there is still no enlightenment... Would you try one?" he asked curious.
Minerva's delicate hand reached within the bag and withdrew a single sweet. It slid easily within her mouth and for a moment the experianced was savored.
"I could make you do what I want..."
"No doubt you could, but would there be satisfaction in it?"
For a while Minerva looked at him.
"No." she said finaly.
For a moment Minerva closed her eyes and then asked softly "What is- this chess- that she has with you - she is very fond of the time together... "
"It is, a game. I believe Minerva keeps a chess set over in the closet... Shall I set it up?"
Minerva nodded. He noticed that her movements were as if she was relearning to do things for the first time.

"She does, love you, you know..." the being inside of Minerva said as they settled across the chess board in her room. "more than her life itself she loves you.- its quite, interesting, her memories of your love making... It was the first time that she says she felt alive." She said moving her knight out.
"then, why did she refuse my offer to bond with her?" He moved his rooks pawn two spaces.
"Why did you not ask her to marry you?" was the beings answer of a question. Her other knight jumped forward. She blinked. Wizards chess was delightful- though the pieces regarded her with some trepidation.
"Because in bonding, she would have the chance to be with me, no matter what happens in my life, and that - her father could have done the ceremony , " another pawn.
"Are you ashamed of her? of your love together??" the being inquired moving the bishop across the board.
"No. I wished to protect her from voldemort." His rook moved into the battle.
"Ah, the evil one." She moved her pawn to intercept the other and when it raised its sword to run dumbledores pawn through, she stopped it.
"She tells me that they will repair once they are in the box, that there is no harm to them, but- I can not, cause that pawn to suffer..." the being said with wonder on her face. "Two century's ago, I could- why not now?"
Albus took her hand.
"Because Minerva knows love, and compassion, as you do now... Please, tell me how you have lived all these century's?
He saw the shrug "I was passed down from mother to daughter to mother and son after the day of confinement, As long as there was someone to be passed down to, I was contained. Minerva upon her birth became my keeper. At the moment when it was decided she would never give birth, her decision, then - I was free from the spell which bound me. "
"And of Minerva? "
"I could not harm her any more than I could allow harm come to the pawn... But, the evil one is a different matter..."
"You - know of voldemort ?" Albus asked softly.
"Voldemort touched our world once- He walks again across it, but his soul has diminished. He keeps it safe, in parts across the places he has been. He hopes to travel beyond life, into our world and destroy us as well."
"Could he?" Asked Albus concerned her golden eyes glittered and regarded him "Would you die to protect someone?" Albus nodded as her hand reached out and touched his head.
"You speak the truth. Your concern is for my, safety, not, his. Your concerned with what would become of the world if it did and you love her with all of your heart. "
Albus looked around the room. The most prevalent thing were the roses.
"It wasn't just a battle to see who was to be king, was it?" he asked softly. "Was it during the battle that created the rift between magic and muggle?" Minerva nodded.
"Snowy white, Rosy red , would you beat your lover dead..." Albus mused.
He saw Minerva turn and regard him. "You, have heard of how it happened?"
"In a children's story, yes... two sisters one snow white the other rosy red, a large bear comes to their house during the winter and they give him shelter, and in time, when he is injured, their love frees an enchanted prince...who marries snowy white, and his brother marries Rosy red "
"One was magic, the other muggle. It was when we lived in harmony with each other. But when they discovered that the child, born of snowy white and the prince was, magic, the split began from harmony." She moved to the bed and dropped her shoulders.
"Minerva, is weary, and wishes to rest, She wonders, if you would lay with her to keep her warm?" Albus nodded and after she sat on the bed, moved behind her to hold her in his arms. He kissed her cheek softly.
"Sleep well my dearest" he said softly.

Albus lay behind her, holding her in his arms. His head rested on her shoulder. He was concerned that she was cold, and tired- it wasn't something that she was prone to do, but given the state of it, it was a wonder that she could keep her thougths together. He sensed that his minerva, was still there- inside- somewhere- and that it was a shared experiance. he knew she wasn't asleep. He allowed his hand to slide over her waist, and cover her belly. He would have loved to have a child by her. His life had been empty with out her in it.
The wards , that were placed on the house would only serve for a short time, and he had a feeling what ever the being had endured before, she would again... or was it a- he?
Albus remembered seeing the etchings, the bear skin falling away revealing the young prince who was golden...
The being - had been an anamagus...
and as an anamagues, had been helpless when the hunters had injured it...
There was something that troubled Albus...
He kissed Minerva's shoulder and pulled a coverlett over both of them.
If his feelings were to be believed, then, the other manifested being- the one bore by Rosy Red and the Beings brother- would most certanly be alive today- unfeattered by the decision to stay one step ahead of it- unless, Unless it was in waiting, for just the moment...
It was with chilling certanty that Albus remembered more, that the first time the bear/ anamagus had visited the house, it was just the fair one in the house- the other- had been out...
Hunting.
A soft moan escaped Minerva. Albus looked at her tenderly, a silent tear ran down his cheek and touched her skin. He kissed where it fell.
If - one would have to die to set things right, he would be sure it was he...

Taylor,
I don't know the children's story. Did you make it up? If you didn't, do you know if it is on line? I know the history of the War of the Roses but not the child's tale.

Alesia, You can find the story of Snow White and Rose Red at the link below. If it doesn't work, you will have to type the address in. I have never tried to link before. I have the story in a very old fairy tale book, and also in the old Bobbs Merrill Readers that my mother had when she went to school. It has always been a favorite of mine, but I have never associated it with the War of the Roses before. I like what Taylor is doing with it. Taylor, your story just keeps me on my toes waiting to find out what happens next. It is so original. I love the way you are fitting it into every section of the board. Keep up the great writing. Looking forward to each and every new update. Kay www.bartleby.com/17/2/42.html

Its been ages since I had read that story as a child - thank you for posting the link- The last few days I have had a nasty cold and I haven't been able to get much sleep at all. So, whats a person to do? read!!
Have you seen Ella Enchanted? Anna Hathaway from Princess Diarys is in it (as Ella of Frell) and there is a line where she and the elf are at a Giants wedding, and the elf meets a lady giant and he confesses to her that- she wasn't what he would expect, in a giant, and she says something about "Oh, Giants are supposed to be mean and ugly... Stinking Grimm brothers..."
Well, I was reading the stories, and at the bottom is a link that can take you ether forward or backwards. Grimm fairy tales, or as they are called here - Household tales were made to serve as warning to people - don't talk to strangers, be nice to people dont stray off the path...
and some of them dont end too well, (well MOST of them don't end well... ) and all I could think of was...
:stinkin Grimm brothers!!:
Off to read more & digest ideas for this story, I *Know* where its to head, but it needs some twists of fate in between...

"she is going to perish, isn't she?" asked the being within Minerva softly to Albus as he held her in his arms.
"we all, die, in time, Such is our nature. Such is our path in life. One hopes that we are ageless, timeless- alas, we have the failings of all mortal men. We are born, we age, and we die." He said holding Minerva in his arms reluctant to let her go. His head rested on her shoulder. Her body was growing colder. He felt a silent tear come slide down his face and touch her cool skin.
"But you are much older than she- why will she perish before you?" the being asked.
"because... Her body is not used to being with another within her. Your need for life is outweighing her ability to sustain both of you. "
"Would you die for someone? Would you give your life so that someone else would live?" the being asked of him.
"Search my heart for that answer." he said simply. The being turned in his arms. "Do you love her?"
"Yes."
For a moment he saw the being try to work out something.
"is you love strong enough to last the test of time?"
"I have only loved Minerva, in all my years, she is what has sustained me- I only wish for her to be happy, and to know that I will love her forever."
For a moment he saw the being close her eyes and when they opened he saw Minerva's clear eyes regarding him.
"Beloved... " she murmured. He pressed his lips to hers, tears welling in his eyes, splashing over.
"Hush..."he said. "You are my light and love. You are the soul that sustains me. In the darkness, you shine above, guiding me to greater hopes and dreams. You are my earth, my wind and the rain that brings life upon the earth..." he murmured in her ear."
"I didn't understand, what you were offering before...I do now... " she said softly. He kissed her again. The being had been within all along, never sleeping. it was hope, and love that kept the being adrift before.. Minervas back arched. her eyes closed...
TO BE CONTINUED IN DRAMA...
