Chapter 6 Sparks
"Good morning, Albus," Albus was looking straight into Minerva's smiling face. She smiled her gentle smile and let her stern facade slip away as he looked at her awkwardly. Her smile faded and lowered her gaze as she turned her head. "What's wrong, Albus? Do you not approve of my outfit?" She smoothed her long, full, black skirt and blushed slightly. The problem with dropping her mask of cold professionalism was that it left her feelings unusually vulnerable. "I'll change. This blouse really isn't very becoming. I'll only be a minute." She turned to leave but felt a hand take hers. She turned quickly and nearly bumped into Albus. Their closeness made her uncomfortable, but she couldn't bring herself to move.
"That blouse is, in fact, quite becoming," Albus said smiling, but Minerva notice a different tone in his voice. He had hoped that she wouldn't, but he could see in her expression that she had. All he could hope was that she couldn't identify its accompanying emotion - desire. "Why are you so concerned about my opinion of your looks? That's not the behavior I've come to expect from my Lioness of Gryffindor." His smile seemed to calm her a bit as he took her arm. "Happy birthday, my dear," he said and as he did so he leaned down and gave her a friendly kiss on the cheek. He could feel her looking at him and he'd felt her tense, but he ignored it. If he looked at her she'd want an explanation that he didn't have to give. He didn't know why he'd kissed her, and he didn't want to have a long and serious discussion at ten to seven on a Friday morning.
Albus broke the silence that had settled between then after a time. "You never answered my question."
"Huh?" Minerva jumped a little as she was jolted from her thoughts.
"My question earlier. I asked you why you put so much stock in my opinion of your looks today - you never answered it." With a smile he added, "You're certainly on edge today. Does turning 64 frighten my Lioness?"
Minerva scowled. "That's enough of that, thank you. I'll have all I can do to deal with all of the jokes tonight. I'm not frightened of aging, but I guess, as silly as it seems, I want to look special today. So, how do I look?" She slowly began to smile hopefully.
"You look beautiful, Minerva, especially when you smile." Albus had no idea what he'd gotten himself into, but he'd never had any inappropriate ideas about Minerva before. They were, of course, just friends, but now he couldn't get himself to behave. As they walked, Minerva stopped to pick up a parchment that had been dropped. As she bent forward, Albus found himself absent-mindedly admiring her backside. What was worse what that once he realized what he was doing, he began to consciously admire her and he had an incredibly hard time keeping his hand from reaching forward to give her a squeeze. She found her way back to her usual position at his right-hand side and he then noticed the neckline of her top- a medium square neck with a bit of cleavage above it. He began to admire that as covertly as possible. He wondered how big her breasts actually were.
"Albus?" Minerva said and Albus snapped to attention before she could notice what had previously held his attention. They were standing in front of the Great Hall.
"Are you ready, my dear?" he asked.
"Yes, Albus." Minerva took a deep breath and readied herself for lay ahead on her birthday. As they entered, everyone began to sing 'Happy Birthday.'

Chapter 7 Pains and Pleasures
"Happy Birthday, Professor McGonagall!" Minerva's Gryffindor/Slytherin first-year class, with the exception of Draco and his friends, gave her a standing ovation as she entered the room.
"Settle down, everyone. Settle down. I don't believe my birthday constitutes a national or wizarding holiday, so I suggest we get to work." The class did as they were asked and Minerva began her lesson which was continuing that month's theme of Techniques in World Magic. Today she would be discussing the Italian art of Oggetto di Ciotolo which, in centuries past, had been a form of transfiguration practiced by children. It involved changing a pebble into a small, innocuous object. The wand movement was rather tricky, but before long, most of the students had mastered it. She handed out pebbles to the class. She demonstrated the wand movement to the class again and practiced the pronunciation and then - Biglia Azzurra - the pebble in her hand became a shimmering blue marble. As she scanned the room, her eyes came to rest on a familiar face. "May I be of assistance, Headmaster?"
Albus entered the room. "I came to ask if I could sit in on this class, Professor. Oggetto di Ciotolo is one of my favorite forms of transfiguration" He took a pebble from the bowl on her desk and, using a slightly different wand movement than the class said Biglia al Cioccolato and the pebble became a marble made entirely of dark chocolate. He smiled at her and popped the chocolate into his mouth. He watched Minerva as she walked around the room giving assistance to those who needed it. He saw the care she took with Neville Longbottom to try to put him at ease. She didn't lose her temper when Neville accidentally send Biglia Assurda and a color-changing marble flew around the room, bouncing off walls, and finally dropping into Minerva's nicely fitted burgundy blouse much to the amusement of everyone else in the room. She retrieved the marble from it's resting place between her breasts and returned it to its pebble form. She settled the class again and was about to turn her attention to Neville when she caught Albus' eye. A pale blush appeared on her cheeks and she quickly looked away. He walked over to his Deputy and the beet-red Neville. "May I assist you, my dear?" he asked as he gently touched her arm. Neither professor noticed the looks being exchanged between the students or the glowing smile on Hermione Granger's face.
"Yes, Professor Dumbledore, I'd appreciate it." Minerva left Albus to help Neville as she turned her attention to the table ahead of him. "There is no note-passing in my class, Mr. Weasley. Would Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and yourself care to entertain us all with your comments" She snatched a folded piece of paper from the boy.
"Uhh, I really don't think that's a good idea, Professor," Harry replied. As the trio of friends tried to explain why sharing the note's contents was a bad idea, another student was breaking the rules.
Draco Malfoy slipped silently from his seat and motioned for the others in the room to be quiet. He crept to the front of the room unnoticed by the two adults who were currently hovering over other students with their backs to him. He took a pebble from the bowl on his professor's desk and walked over to her chair. He placed the pebble on the seat and, using a wand movement his father had taught him, whispered Bulleta Appuntito. He snuck back to his seat. Everyone was asking what he'd done, but he just smiled and said "I've just arranged a little surprise for our professor on her birthday."
"Mr. Weasley, I've heard enough excuses. Either read the note aloud or I will do it it for you." Minerva had reached her limit and was tired of arguing. Ron started to stammer and Minerva wasn't having it. She opened the note and began to read aloud. As she read, she began to walk toward her desk.
"I think it's sweet."
"What's sweet now, Hermione?"
"Them."
"Them who?"
"McGonagall and Du..." Minerva looked at Hermione, unable to hide her shock. She cleared her throat and continued as the class began to giggle.
"McGonagall and Dumbledore. I think they're in love."
Minerva threw the note down on her desk. Draco began to smile as she approached her chair. "I'll not continue reading this nonsense. I can't believe that this is what you all are saying behind my back. Ten points from each of you for spreading utter nonsense. I am very disappointed in you,"Minerva said looking directly at Hermione. "You all have ten minutes to practice your spells and then you'll be dismissed. You'll find your homework parchments in the basket by the door." Minerva adjusted her glasses and sat down to grade some parchments. The silence was shattered by screaming when Minerva felt something very sharp underneath her. The students were all laughing at Draco's joke. As soon as she started to yell, Albus was at her side.
"Happy birthday, Professor," Draco sneered.
Minerva leaped up and tried to find whatever it was that she'd sat on, but there was nothing there. Albus noticed something on the back of her skirt. He reached down to remove it. Minerva yelped again and jumped when she felt him touch her bottom. She whirled around to face him. When she did, he smiled guiltily and held out the tack that had been stuck to her skirt. Her students were still laughing and she was trying her best to quiet them, but was having little success.
"That's enough," Albus said above the din. The students quieted immediately. "I am appalled at your behavior today."I know that no one will tell me who the prankster was so all of you will pay for that one person's actions." Hands started to raise. Eventually, it was down to three Slytherin boys. Albus nodded in approval. "One of you is the culprit, am I right?" The three nodded. "OK then, if the guilty party will not confess, all three of you will be spending next week in detention." Silence. "I would like to see you in my office at 6pm and I will be deducting fifty house points from Slytherin." Turning to Minerva he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright, Minerva? Would you like to take a moment outside to collect yourself?"
Minerva could only nod her head for fear of bursting into tears. She stood and walked proudly from the room. No one could see how hurt she was. She sat in the courtyard on a stone bench and waited for Albus. She watched as the students began to appear in the hallway. She watched Albus walking down the hall and smiled. He was always so kind to her, and sweet. Truth be told, he was rather handsome as well. For the first time, she realized how happy she was that he'd never married.
He noticed her and made his way to her side. They sat and talked briefly before Albus stood and offered Minerva his arm. She accepted and they walked together back to the Headmaster's office. They were unaware of the three pairs of eyes that were analyzing their interaction. Two of the observers felt awkward when they saw the unexpected closeness between their stoic Professor and their Headmaster, but one was pleased. She hoped that there was more than just friendship between them.

Chapter 8 Nervousness and Anticipation
"I can't believe them," Minerva said as she and Albus walked to his office. He had asked her to be present for the meetings with the students from Slytherin as well as the one he'd scheduled with the highly-imaginative trio from Gryffindor after she'd left the room. He had seen how upset she'd gotten over the note and decided that maybe it was a good idea to have her talk to her students about it so they had a chance to convince her that it was an innocent comment and not an attempt to start some vicious, scandalous rumor. "Don't those three realize how much something like that hurts? Where do they come up with these things?" Minerva's look told Albus that she was still angry. It also showed just how hurt she was by these cruel events which marred an otherwise lovely day - if you ignored her crying early that morning. Albus decided he should stop thinking about that because it brought to mind the image of Minerva naked. He didn't want to upset his dear friend any further. She needed to enjoy her day, at least what there was left of it.
"My dear, putting a tack on the teacher's chair is hardly a novel idea. That reminds me, are you all right... physically?" He was looking down at her backside and failed to notice the glare she gave him. His concentration was only broken when she pulled away from him and put her hands over the seat of her skirt as she turned. They stood facing each other waiting to see who would make the next move. Minerva was the one to back down - unusually enough - and to returned to his side cautiously continuing their walk. Albus heard her sigh exasperatedly. "What have I done now, my dear?"
"There are so many answers to that question we could be here for hours. In this instance, you've mistaken those three Slytherin brats for my three Gryffindors. It's them who I'm surprised by. I never expected them to turn on me like this. And then there's you." The anger in her eyes and melted away leave only the sadness behind. "The Slytherin trick was something I should've expected. Honestly, what Malfoy has ever been able to resist antagonizing me." she sighed "This isn't the birthday I'd hoped for." They had reached the gargoyle that guarded the entrance to Albus' office and his private quarters. Albus delivered the password and he and Minerva rode the staircase up to the door together.
Albus took her small, slender hand in his. "Minerva, what can I do to make you smile? Tell me what I've done wrong today and I'll try to make it better."
She looked up at him and gave a small, but sincere smile. "You've been wonderful. You've certainly given my a few surprises today, but you've been nothing but kind. I'm just overly-sensitive today. I had a dream this morning which left me feeling very much alone when I woke up." She realized that they'd been standing in front of the door for an age. She quickly entered the room and headed for her favorite chair before changing her mind and taking a seat on Albus' big, blue sofa. She hoped that Albus would join her and was very pleased when he did. "Your kiss this morning put me a little 'on edge' as well."
"I apologize, Minerva, I meant no harm. I assure you that it won't happen again." Albus was pleasantly surprised when Minerva gently touched his arm and shook her head.
"I didn't say I didn't like it," she said softly. "I just wasn't expecting it."
"Is that so." Albus grinned as he moved closer to his suddenly shy Deputy Headmistress. He was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"I'm sorry," Harry Potter called as the door opened. A phoenix flew in with a very smug look on his face.
"Did we interrupt something?" Hermione Granger said with look on her face that seemed almost hopeful.
Ronald Weasley looked as if he was going to be very ill.

Chapter 9 Obvious and Oblivious
"What could you have possibly interrupted, Miss Granger; your Headmaster telling me he loves me?" Minerva hissed sarcastically as she moved past Dumbledore's desk to a dark green chair next to his - 'her chair'. "Did you think he was about to take me into his arms and kiss me? That is highly unlikely indeed." Minerva gave an irritated huff and sat back in her chair. Her students were thoroughly frightened until they saw the look on Albus' face. His eyes were on the Transfiguration Professor and he had a silly grin on his face.
He turned to the students still unable to hide his amusement. "As you can see, your professor is still upset over that note you had written. Though I am not going to tell her how to conduct her class, I feel that a thirty point deduction is a little extreme for the passing of a harmless note the contents of which were actually rather kind." He saw Minerva sit up in her chair and glare at him. He raised a hand to stem her as yet unreleased torrent of protests. "I see very little harm in your actions. The fact that you would like to see your teacher and headmaster happy is endearing, in my opinion, but Min... Professor McGonagall is an intensely private woman. She does not enjoy having her personal life discussed and it may have made her feel a little intruded upon to realize that her students were making conjectures about the state of her love life. I wanted to give you a chance to explain yourselves and apologize. I also hoped that perhaps your professor would reconsider the severity of her punishment. I wouldn't have gotten involved, but I figured that, since I was the other half of your supposed couple, I may be allowed a small bit of say in the matter." The children and Minerva sat in silence. "Well, go on," he prompted.
"I'm sorry, Professor McGonagall, I didn't mean to upset you," Hermione said with complete sincerity. "I don't know why, but I thought I saw something and I told Ron about it. I didn't tell anyone else. Harry wasn't involved. He just had the misfortune to be sitting with us. Sorry, Harry."
"Sorry, Professor," Ron said. He only recently stopped shaking.
"Sorry," Harry added.
"Well," Minerva began in a tone notably softer than her usual professional demeanor. "Your statement did upset me, but the fact that you did take responsibility for your actions and did apologize should be recognized. I therefore award five points to Mr Weasley and Miss Granger. Harry I award you the ten points I'd taken from you earlier; I had no reason to do so. You were just sitting with your friends." She snuck a glace at Albus and was surprised to find him looking back at her with a twinkle in his eye and a smile. She returned his smile and turned back to her student who were stifling giggles. Her smile vanished. "I could always change my mind," she said once again attaining her stoic persona.
"You may go now. I'm glad we sorted this mess out. Take some Sherbet Lemons from the dish on the table as you leave," Albus said before turning his attention back to Minerva. They began to bicker almost playfully.
As the students closed the door, Hermione tapped Ron and Harry on their shoulders and pointed to the two professors. "Aren't they adorable together." She closed the door before Ron and Harry began to make faces and retching sounds.
Suddenly a thought came to Minerva and she became very serious. "Albus, you didn't tell them they were wrong about you and I."
"Of course I did," Albus said confidently. He then added, quite un-confidently, "... didn't I?"
"No, Albus, you didn't, and neither did I" Minerva was immediately twice as unhappy as she'd been before and they hadn't even met with the three Slytherin boys yet. "Oh Albus, this is awful,"she whimpered.
"They are smart children, my dear, I'm sure they'll see what truly exists between us." Albus put his arm around her shoulders and as she looked trustingly up at him, a small part of him wondered if that was, in fact, a very bad thing.

I am enjoying this fic, and thank you for posting - please continue to do so! I sooo want to see what happens on the birthday night out!
Your interpretation of Min, Albus and the trio seems a little OOC, and I don't think that Dumbledore would indulge the trio with an explanation or say that Minerva was upset etc - and I hate the idea of her whimpering! I think the lines between adult and child would be clearer and the relationship more... distant.
I loved the dream Minerva had, (very nice indeed!) and I find the idea of Severus checking to see he's still 'all there' hilarious! The bit where Albus helps Minerva with her cloak and she gasps - fantastic; that made me tingle! And his accidental voyeurism!
There's lots to love here - please do update soon!

Things are now officially OOC. I'm sorry. I was actually trying to keep it close, but I've determined it's pretty hopeless now. Welcome to BlackMagic Land. I'll try to get it closer, but if canon's what you're looking for, stop now and save yourself the aggravation.
Chapter 10 Roaming Hands -or- Feeling Sexy
"You never whimper, Minerva. Is my Lioness turning into a sweet Tabby? Albus whispered softly into Minerva's ear.
"I'm just... I'm just a little confused. My mind is wandering to all sorts of places today. I'll be fine. She purposely avoided looking at him, fearing he'd ask her what had her in such a state. How could she tell her closest friend that he was partly to blame for her discomfort. Yet part of her wished he would be the one to sooth this feeling of loneliness that had hovered around her all day. She wished that he had been the man in her dream that morning. She could almost feel his hands drifting over her body.
"I see. Hopefully, this party will brighten your mood." He had a sudden surge of boldness. He pulled her closer and said in a most loving tone "If there is anything I can do to make you smile, let me know." Absent-mindedly he let his hands drift down Minerva's arm's which were crossed in front of her, but he failed to calculate their position in relation to her breasts. There the two friends stood, Albus' long fingers partially tucked beneath Minerva's bosoms. Both were too embarrassed to move.
Albus couldn't bear to move. He didn't want to admit that he was quite enjoying the whole experience: the smell of her perfume, the warmth of her body, the smooth fabric of her blouse, and most of all the weight of Minerva's ample breasts on his fingers. He was desperately trying not to think about Minerva in an effort to kill the growing bulge which was perilously close to brushing against her back. He was ever so thankful that she hadn't worn heels that day for, if she had, the afore mentioned bulge would be pressed firmly against her shapely backside. Unable to resist, he let his eyes wander down and settle admiringly on her bottom. He began to smile, unaware that he was being watched.
Minerva had been watching the reflection in the big bay window in front of them. The whole experience was unreal. Actually, the last hour had been so out of character for them both. What had they been thinking? How would she ever live down that meeting with her Gryffindors? She refused to think about the placement of Albus' fingers at that moment. She was stunned that he hadn't moved them. She wouldn't acknowledge the affect it was having on her, though she couldn't help the blush that colored her cheeks or her breath coming faster. It caused her breasts to rub ever so slightly against his fingers - a fact that she was acutely aware of.
Then she noticed that something had caught Albus' attention. She watched his gaze slowly drop. It seemed to settle on something behind her. This was all getting to much for her. She squirmed slightly hoping that this whole incident would soon come to an end and was surprised to see Albus' smile widen a little. He couldn't be looking at her - not that part of her anyway. No one in their right mind would be ogling her "old lady" bum, but part of her felt surprisingly flirtatious. Against her better judgment, she wiggled her hips in what she hoped was a sexy way. After such a long time, she had no idea what was considered sexy and was just hoping she didn't look foolish. He raised his eyebrows and gave a slight chuckle. His smile had become a silly grin. "Albus, what are you staring at?" she asked softly.
Albus immediately pulled away from her and looked horrified. "Minerva, I am so sorry." He turned away from her and walked toward his desk. "You don't have to stay if I've made you uncomfortable. I'll talk to the boys. I don't want to make things any worse. Believe it or not, I did truly want you to have a lovely birthday. You mean so much to me, my dear, dear friend. I...." He stopped short when he felt her soft touch on his shoulder.
"Albus, it's alright. We've both been acting so strangely. Let's just forget it." She smiled so kindly at him that he had to believe all would be well between them if it wasn't all ready. Changing the subject, she crossed her arms. "When are those boys getting her? We need to meet everyone downstairs at six."
"I forgot. I told them to be here a six. You go on ahead and I'll meet you there. I'm sorry, Minerva, you should go get ready." Albus flopped down into his chair in resignation.
Minerva ignored his suggestion and settled down next to him. "It's fine. I'm in no rush to be incessantly teased about being old and single. We can both be late. I think this outfit is fine for an evening at the pub and wherever else Rolanda has arranged for us to go." Albus looked surprised. She explained. "I don't have much in the way of party clothes. My schedule doesn't include a lot of socializing and who would I be dressing up for anyway?"
"You can't go out like that. It's your birthday. Let me dress you up tonight." Albus suggested completely oblivious to the possible sexual meaning of his words.
"I beg your pardon!" Minerva placed her hand on her chest in astonishment. Albus reviewed his statement in his mind and realized why she was so shocked.
"I mean I'll create a dress for you. You should be beautiful tonight and you will be if I have anything to do with it." He leaned over his blushing deputy and said softly "Close your eyes, my dear."

Chapter 11 Skirting the Issue
Minerva sat with her eyes closed as her closest friend stood in front of her contemplating her figure and what would most flatter it. His concentration, however, was being constantly interrupted by the lady in question's fussing. "I don't want to be ostentatious, Albus. Just something simple and conservative and..."
"Minerva, this is not your decision. Please let your humble artist work. Also, would you mind standing, my dear. I need to get a better look at you." Albus helped her to her feet and let his eyes scan Minerva's body. He was so glad her eyes were closed because he didn't have to hide how much he appreciated what he saw. He couldn't believe that this beautiful woman had been by his side for years and he'd never noticed. He had had to accidentally see her naked to be reminded that his friend and Deputy Headmistress was also a woman and not some sexless being. He then determined that he should've seen her naked years ago. Actually, if he had known what she'd been hiding under those bulky clothes, he probably would've tried to arrange just that. There was a small voice crying out from the back of his mind telling him to stop staring at her and get going on her dress. He shouldn't take advantage of her trust in him. She was standing before him with her eyes closed and he was being a dirty old man.
As if on cue, Minerva fidgeted nervously. "Albus, what are you doing?" she asked.
"Trying to figure out where you are under all this skirt," Albus said. To cover his lie, he began using his wand-less magic to lift her skirt.
"Stop!" she yelped. "If my skirt gets any higher, I'll hex you senseless." She tried to smooth down her skirt and continued growling at him and yet kept her eyes closed as he'd asked her to. He found that trust to be one more quality to add to the list of thing that made him feel the way he did for her. One thought stopped him cold. Could he be in love with Minerva? He shook off the idea as he lifted his wand and cast his spell on his friends clothes. As soon as he saw the result he knew he'd be in trouble.
"What were you thinking?" Minerva stood in front of the full length mirror Albus had transfigured for her out of a vase. She was wearing a gauzy, white halter dress which barely fell to her knees and did nothing to conceal her very plain black bra and underwear. She glared at the giggling Albus standing behind her.
"It's not that bad from where I'm standing," he mused. Minerva blushed fiercely. He raised his wand and tried again. This time he knew he'd got it right because he saw her smile faintly before beginning her list of complaints. He thought he'd outdone himself. The inner robe was a deep red satin. The outer robe was black velvet and trimmed with gold satin. It closed over her bust with three golden knot clasps before opening again to reveal more of the beautiful red beneath. The skirt hugged her hips slightly which brought attention to her womanly figure. The hems of both robes skimmed the floor and covered the new heels he'd given her. The neckline was a deep but not overly exposing V which displayed her chest nicely while still being reasonably modest. "Some of my best work," Albus said with pride.
"Do you make a habit of re-clothing women?" Minerva said sarcastically. She tugged at fabric that draped elegantly over her bottom. "Does this particular area need to draw so much attention?" Albus noticed that something wasn't right with the seat of the robes and the bodice as well, but it had nothing to do with his craftsmanship and everything to do with Minerva's underclothes. With a flick of his wand all was well with the fit of the outfit. The woman wearing it was another story. She was red with embarrassment and anger. "How dare you!" she sputtered placing her hands over her newly redressed breasts and the junction of her tightly closed thighs.
"There's nothing wrong with something a little different." Albus said. He hadn't given her anything that wouldn't give her adequate coverage, but apparently the two had different ideas about what constituted adequate. "What you had made an outline of itself in your robes. Would you like everyone at the Hog's Head to know what kind of pants you're wearing?"
Minerva gave a sigh of resignation and began to relax her tensed body. Really, the robes were lovely and, much to her surprise, she couldn't wait to show them off. It was a nice feeling to be truly proud of how she looked. She turned to him and smiled. She wanted to wrap her arms around him, but she didn't want to create another awkward situation. "I love it," she said. "I just need some makeup." With a wave of her hand, the job was done, but Albus changed the shade of her lipstick to a deep red that matched her dress.
"The color suits you," he said as he reached into his pocket and pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. "It's yours if you like it," He smiled. Minerva opened it and was speechless.
