Just thought I'd share this little tidbit with all of you.
So Alan Rickman came to speak at the Oxford Union a few weeks ago. First of all, yes, he really does sound like that (like, whoa) and the Snape-ish mannerisms were...creepy. Cool, but..wow. He's also brilliant and funny, and with a hint of sarcasm that amused me endlessly.
But there was one anecdote that I just had to share:
Rickman was talking about how truly gifted actors and actresses of the stage don't need as much direction on the set: they've got the talent and the training already, and they can focus whenever you need them to, so they can also goof off between shots if they want to...
Some people had come by the set between shots on one of the Potter movies, and Sir Michael Gambon and Dame Maggie Smith were sitting next to each other, holding their wands in their hands and doing this:
[angles sideways as if to face someone else and mimes SWORD-FIGHTING with a little smile, click-click-click]
And so I turned to the people beside me and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Sir Michael Gambon and Dame Maggie Smith!"
I could not stop laughing for a long, long time. And the warm fuzzies...
Brilliant, huh?
Other funny highlights:
Alan Rickman on his 'evil' characters:
"I don't judge my character."
...
"They just have certain wants...different value systems...different means..."
Apparently, his voice teacher also told him it sounded like something coming out of a rusty drain pipe. This was his reply to the moderator's question on how it felt to have a "silky" voice and be considered one of the "sexiest men alive."
