When does a girl cross the "slut" line? I know there's no straight answer, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

There really is no straight answer. its all a matter of perspective.
I remember dating this one guy who had really uptight, hardcore catholic parents who i overheard calling me a slut just because of the outfit I was wearing. My outfit wasn't even that revealing. It was a sleeveless black top which I'll admit was a little tight and did show my abdomen enough to see my navel ring if I sat down a certain way accompanied with tight black pants.
I personally didn't see anything wrong with my outfit, neitheir did my boyfriend and yet his parents took one glance at me before pulling him into the kitchen and him "that girl is so wrong for you! Look at what that slut is wearing!" Needless to say that our relationship ended not to long after that.
IMHO, a girl crosses the slut line when she tries to make a pass on a guy who is already taken ESPECIALLY when his sig. other is just a few feet away *recalls some distant memory* That or if they wear an outfit even Paris Hilton would consider trashy.

It's hard to draw the line...but when you are sleeping with guys just to have sex, then I would say you definitely are a slut.

I agree with you MinervaMcGonagall. It's sometimes hard to say, but I most certainly think that when a girl begins to sleep with different guys just to have sex and continues to do so with no remorse. When she uses them for her own personal use. Stuff like that. I've known a few, trust me.

A hard question to answer but I've always felt that a slut is someone that screws around with other people's boyfriends/girlfriends or somone who sleeps around but pretends to be holier-than-thou.
But if you want to have a bit of fun with a few guys with no strings attached and the aforementioned guys are aware of that, then I wouldn't call them a 'slut' persay. At the end of the day there's far more horrible things one can do.
So for me, it's going with other people's boyfriends and sleeping around but pretending to be chaste.

I agree, MinnieQuill.
But what I think really makes a slut is the way a person carries themself. If a girl is constantly throwing herself at guys without any shame or discretion, well, I think that's a lack of self-respect and pretty slutty. And the whole "conquering other people's boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband" thing is just a no-no unless you're looking to get your ass kicked, pardon my French.
And the weird thing is, the more I have gotten to know people, the more I'm begging to learn that sex has become a sort of art form. Almost therapeutic, if you will. People take out a lot of the things that bother or get to them in their everyday lives through acts of sex. I mean, look at Masochism and role-playing. It isn't just the same old same old anymore, ESPECIALLY for people that you would NEVER think would be into that kind of stuff. It's like a whole ordeal of double-lives.

hmm... from my perspective, a slut would be some one who throws themselves at guys, even though she knows that they are taken. Especially when she sleeps with her friend's boyfriends and lie to them about that. I met a few...

I don't tend to think of what people are doing in their bedroom; it's their business. If they want to dress up, cover themselves in chocolate, then let them do it. It's not harming anyone.
But if a girl (or guy) is at a nightclub/bar etc, flirts and gets a guy/girl, then I wouldn't call that sluttish. Even if they do it frequently; they're having fun, presumeably the other person is having fun. I think that so long as lies don't get involved, all is okay.
I actually hate people getting labelled a 'slut' for the way they dress or if they happen to sleep with a few people. It's their life, their business, so let them be. It's just if they're being hypocritical or deliberately going after someone whose taken that I think 'slut' is appropriate.
This probably makes absolutely no sense, but there you go.
EDIT: As I was speaking babble I asked my best friend to decipher what I actually meant. She came up with "a person who sleeps around indiscriminently without any regard of potential consequences and any people he/she may hurt."

I don't think there is a minimum number of people you have to sleep with, it's just if you have sex without the love involved. You could have loved three guys truly and not be a slut and yet if you sleep with guys and drag them along, then you have a problem.
Just my opinion.

I do believe that you are a slut when you believe you are a slut. If that makes any sense at all. Basically what I'm saying is that a girl could have sex with 50 guys and still be classy, or have sex with none and be a slut. It's a mindset thing, I hold. EDIT: But it's not so much in a poor-self esteem self-deprecating "I'm such a horrid person and a slut" thing. It's... when you think trashily you are trashy, no? Oh dear. I'm explaining horridly.

No, I get what you're saying, and it makes sense it a wierd and wonderful way. I have a friend who is quite promiscuous (I've probably spelt that incorrectly) but she's still very classy and elegant. And if anyone calls her a slut, which a few have, she just gives them this wonderful disdainful glare (which cracks me up to no end) and ignores them. And people seem to respect her for that. After all, it's her life, no one else can live it for her.
