I was watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone tonight, and something struck me. I've thought of it before, but now I really, really want to know.
When Harry is nervous about playing Quidditch, little Hermione takes him to the trophey case with the Gryffindor quidditch awards in it.
James Potter is in the bottem center of the little award, Ninteen Seventy something.
M.G. McGonagall is to the upper right of that, circa 1971
Who's M.G. McGonagall?

I've also wondered that too. I don't know who M.G. McGonagall is though. I wish someone would just tell us instead of making everyone wonder about it.

That's a thought. Best one i've encountered at least Still... it was *beside* another one... a 'King' I think. ..

I don't think it is. In my fan fic, M.G. is her daughter. I think they are related somehow though.

M.G.Mcgonagall couldn't be Minerva, because the dates are wrong, so maybe it was just a mess up by the props people?

I always though M.G. McGonagall was one of Minerva's neices or nephews ... because I think the HP Lexicon says Minerva was born on Oct. 4th, 1925 so she would've gone to Hogwarts from 1937-1944. So it seems fitting that someone about 30 years younger than her could possibly be a neices or nephews.
Just a thought ... but I thought I'd add it to the mix.

This is a very interesting discussion, I mean, I haven't noticed it yet, but I shall check it out the next time I watch PS. Hope someone clears up the mystery though.
