Keep Breathing
Summary: Minerva's thoughts during the funeral. Set to Keep Breathing by Ingrid Michaelson
Rating: All ages I would say
Author's Notes: If you don't know the song, I would advise listening to it here uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fORAPkfVV_A There aren't many lyrics and it helps with the pace of the story if you can hear the song. Please R+R!!!!
The storm is coming but I don't mind.
People are dying, I close my blinds.
Minerva McGonagall steadied herself as she walked down the lawn towards the rows of chairs. She had to keep up her strength for the students. She couldn’t let them see her break, not now. Not when they needed reassurance the most.
All that I know is I'm breathing now.
She took her seat as quickly, and spoke as little as she could manage without drawing attention. The last thing she wanted was for someone to suspect anything was amiss. Anything more than a teacher missing her colleague and friend. Nothing more.
I want to change the world...instead I sleep.
I want to believe in more than you and me.
As the service began, she felt the bile begin rising in her throat. No one here knew him like she did. No one. She closed her eyes and tried to shut out the sound with all her might.
But all that I know is I'm breathing.
All I can do is keep breathing.
All we can do is keep breathing now.
The pain in her chest was so intense she thought she might rip in two. He was gone, and instead she was surrounded by people who didn’t know what it was like to be in his arms, to be comforted by him, to even just talk to him. She wanted to run screaming. Keep running until she couldn’t anymore.
All that I know is I'm breathing.
All I can do is keep breathing.
All we can do is keep breathing now.
As soon as people began dispersing from the lawn, she moved as quickly and calmly as she could back towards the castle. When she was sure she was out of sight of students, she broke into a run, and didn’t stop until she reached her chambers, and clambered behind the Portrait.
All we can do is keep breathing
All we can do is keep breathing
All we can do is keep breathing
All we can do is keep breathing.
All we can do is keep breathing now.
She collapsed on the floor, but found she couldn’t cry anymore. She had shed all the tears that her small body could produce over the last few days, and there wasn’t anything left to give. She simply lay on the floor breathing. Missing him more and more with each breath.
