Summary: Hogwarts has it's first Karaokee night and MMADness ensues!
Rating: 11+, Nothing too bad.
A/N: Just to let everyone know I have had this posted on fanfiction.net for a while, so I decided to try it one the boards and see what you all think!
I'm Crazy For You!
Albus Dumbledore had always been known for two things: that he was the greatest wizard in history, and he was slightly mad. Minerva McGonagall knew this and, though he did have his strange quirks, thought that he wasn’t in fact mad. That was until now.
It was just a week before term began, and Dumbledore had decided to put on a staff Karaoke night, with staff attendance mandatory. After the usual argument over Dumbledore’s latest scheme the teachers grudgingly filed into the Great Hall (which had been redecorated to look like a Karaoke bar) and took their seats at little round tables placed aimlessly around the room. Minerva sat next to Rolanda, Poppy, and Hagrid.
“Thank you, thank you,” Dumbledore called out over the crowd after they all were seated, “for attending the first ever Hogwarts Karaoke night!”
There were a few random claps that echoed violently around the Hall. Dumbledore just smiled and continued, “I came up with this splendid idea when I was stranded at a muggle bar after apparating in a thunderstorm. Actually it was an interesting place…” but Dumbledore stopped upon seeing the look Minerva was giving him, “but that’s not important. Now, we will begin with everyone writing their name on a slip of paper, so that they may be randomly selected to sing a random song.”
Everyone went up to sign in except Minerva, who stayed stubbornly planted to her seat. Rolanda was one of the first to make it back, sitting across from Minerva and not daring to make eye-contact. “What did you do?” Minerva asked, narrowing her eyes at her friend.
“Nothing, nothing…” was all she would say. Minerva sighed and decided it would be best not to argue with Rolanda when she was already agitated enough about “Karaoke Night.”
“Thank you for all signing up.” Dumbledore called over the chatter, “And now we begin with a muggle classic for Karaoke, ‘I Will Survive.’ And singing it will be… Professor Snape!”
The Hall rang with laughter, and Minerva could hardly contain hers’. Not only was Snape a bad singer, he looked like someone had just put frog spawn in his drink. She couldn’t think of a time when she had ever seen anyone look more uncomfortable. With the final bars of the song coming to an end Snape practically ran off the stage and sat back in his seat, so red that someone might mistake him for a Weasley. Minerva, however, was relived that she had not put her name in. True she could sing, but hadn’t since she was a girl at Hogwarts.
After an hour of singing, none of which quite measured up to Snape’s serenade, Dumbledore excused himself to use the restroom, and had Professor Flitwick take over. He reached into the hat and pulled out Dumbledore’s name.
“Do you think he left on purpose?” Rolanda asked Minerva.
Minerva smiled, “Probably.”
“Alright then, the next person.” Flitwick drew in a hand, pulled out a piece of paper and announced, “Minerva McGonagall.”
“What?!” she yelled, “I didn’t even put my name in!”
Rolanda smiled, “What are friends for.”
Minerva was furious she stood up to begin one of her famous lectures when Rolanda and Poppy grabbed her by both arms and led her onto the stage. Minerva looked around at all of the people uncomfortably, “What will I be singing?” She asked in a less than enthusiastic tone.
“’Crazy for You’ by Madonna.” Flitwick responded with a little chuckle, but stopped at the death look he was receiving from Minerva. At least Madonna was a singer Minerva knew, but that wasn’t much comfort. As the music started Minerva took a deep breath and started:
Swaying room as the music starts
Strangers making the most of the dark
Two by two their bodies become one
Minerva’s face turned a rather bright shade of pink at this line and wondered why she couldn’t have had a more appropriate song. Everyone else however was surprised at her voice. True it wasn’t amazing, but it was nice to listen too. Rolanda was beside herself with giggles at her friends’ obvious discomfort. Minerva noticed this and smiled; facing her friend she jokingly sang the next lines to her:
I see you through the smokey air
Can't you feel the weight of my stare
You're so close but still a world away
What I'm dying to say, is that
Everyone was laughing along with Minerva and Rolanda.
I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you, crazy for you
At that moment Albus Dumbledore walked into the Great Hall, surprised to see Minerva McGonagall singing. His movement in the back caught her eye and she looked at him. Without even realizing it she continued singing, but to him.
Trying hard to control my heart
I walk over to where you are
Eye to eye we need no words at all
Everyone was aware of the sudden change in her singing, for now it was as if she was singing from her heart, and it was beautiful. Dumbledore stood transfixed, and Minerva kept singing:
Slowly now we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, you'll see
I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you, crazy for you
Rolanda looked curiously between her best friend and the headmaster. It was as if they didn’t even notice anyone else in the room.
Slowly now we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, you'll see
I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
I'm crazy, crazy for you
Everyone clapped loudly and cheered. This seemed to snap Minerva back to reality and she blushed as she walked off the stage. Why did I do that? She scolded herself, I’m so stupid! She looked to see if Dumbledore was still staring, but he was now seated in Flitwick’s spot, letting him continue with calling names.
“That was great Minerva!” Squealed Poppy over the sound of Argus Filtch singing “Dancing Queen.”
“Professor, tha’ was brilliant!” Hagrid said.
“… Yes, very… interesting.” Rolanda said smiling knowingly at Minerva. Minerva noticed her friends smiled and panicked. Did anybody else notice? She wondered fearfully.
Standing up Minerva said, “I have to go, I need to… prepare for classes next week. Excuse me.” And she hurried out of the Great Hall.
She was about halfway to her chambers when she stopped and let out a frustrated sigh. She put her head in her hands and thought about how completely stupid she had been. Why had she lost control like that? What she did was entirely un-professional! She hit the wall next to her, letting out some of her anger.
She then heard an all too familiar voice behind her, “Now what has that wall ever done to you my dear?”
Minerva whirled around and came face to face with Dumbledore. “Nothing, I just… well I was… heading up to my office to work on some things for the start of term. I’ve left everything to the last minute and really need to start working on it.”
She turned to leave but Dumbledore said, “Minerva, I can’t remember the last time you left anything to the last minute.”
She just smiled and tried to leave once more, but Dumbledore started to speak, and the seriousness of his tone made Minerva realize he was done beating around the bush, “Minerva-”
But she cut him off, and he was surprised to see the pained look on her face, “Albus don’t. Please. You don’t need to say anything, what I did back there… well; we just don’t need to mention it ever again.”
Dumbledore stepped closer to her grabbing her gently by the arms, “Minerva-” he tried once more, but she cut him off again.
“Please Dumbledore.” She said now pleading with tears starting to form in her eyes, “It hurts enough knowing you could never return my feelings, but hearing it… that would be too much! So please, spare me your excuses and please let me go.” She looked down at the floor, not wanting to look him in the eyes.
Dumbledore put a hand under her chin and lifted her head up to meet his eyes, “Minerva, I am one of Voldemort’s only threats. Sometimes I feel just running this school puts everyone in danger.”
This was not what Minerva had expected at all. Confused she said, “Albus you shouldn’t think that way, you’re the best headmaster Hogwarts has ever seen.”
He smiled and continued, “I would never want to endanger the life of someone I love, just to meet my own selfish needs.”
What Dumbledore was trying to say slowly dawned on Minerva, “Albus are you saying…?”
“Minerva I have loved you for forty years. First Grindelwald was a threat, and now Voldemort… I just never wanted you to get hurt.” He looked down at her, and she saw the care in his eyes.
Minerva was shocked, but said, “Albus Percival Wilfric Bryan Dumbledore! Do you think that I would let something as trivial as fear stand in the way of being with the man I love?”
He smiled, “I know you wouldn’t,” then his face turned serious, “but I won’t endanger your life.”
He let go of her arms and stated to turn away, but she grabbed his hand, turned him around, and pulled him into a kiss. He started to protest, but quickly gave in, slipping his hands around her waist, and pulling her closer. She brought her hands up around his neck and sighed. It was perfect, beautiful, and just… meant to be.
Minerva pulled away and looked up at him, “What is the point of living life, even if it is safe, if I can’t be with you?”
He looked at her longingly, “Minerva, we could never get married, have children, or even let anyone know we are together.”
She smiled, “I don’t care! I don’t need a wedding to prove that we really are together. And as for children, I think our students are enough.”
Dumbledore smiled and extended his arm out to her, “Do you need an escort back to your room Professor?”
“Why yes Headmaster, I think I do.” She smiled as she took his arm, and said as they started to walk, “You know, I don’t think that Karaoke nights are such a bad idea after all.”
