I'm not sure if this thread has been started before, but I am procrastinating on homework and wondered what everyone's soul movies was! In case you don't know what a soul movie is (well, I sort of made it up) it's like a soul mate, but a movie (yes I am a bit odd.) Ok, my soul movie is Moulin Rouge. It has been since I was 9 (it had just come out) and my cousin let me watch it with her without my mother's consent (I do adore my cousin... ) Anyway, it's my favorite movie because it has everything I love. It's a musical, a comedy, drama, romance and it has two of my favorite actors in it. I call it my soul movie because it just fits my personality in a way I can't explain. I don't desire to become a prostitute or anything it just works for me. Anywho, now that I have gone off on my Moulin Rouge diatribe I really want to know what everyone else feels their soul movie is.

I was so confused by moulin rouge the first time I watched it, but I couldn't take my eyes off it, and cried like mad at the end. What an interesting idea, however I have no idea what my soul movie is, though I may spend the rest of the day thinking about it, maybe I'll come up with one. I'm almost inclined to say Fellowship of the Ring, since I dream of going to middle earth and meeting elves, but it doesn't seem to quite fit the bill. Thanks for giving me something so fascinating to busy my mind with, lol.

"The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", definitely. It is one of the best movies ever made, in my humble opinion, and Maggie Smith was magnificent in it!

I was actually Arwen for Halloween in the 6th grade. I'm not obsessed or anything, unlike one of my good friends who can quote all three practically all the way through. lol, I do have special friends...

I am not sure, if I get the true meaning of your question, but i guess "My house in Umbria" is my "soul movie"...if I go to sleep, there is not a bit of a doubt what picture I recall in my mind: the terrace of that beautiful villa, Maggie as Emily sitting in what you Americans would call a front-porch-swing, sipping her cocktail - there is definitely no place I would love better to disappear to ;D I admire Emily so much...with a past like hers to be able to be such a caring person, giving love although she never received any...and Maggie plays her so well (of course, and for inspiration look at my signature ;D)...

Oh dear, this is a hard one... I'm now trying to think of a movie that I've watched fifty thousand times. I'd probably say 'Love Actually' because I absolute adore it and that scene where Liam Neeson is carrying his wife's coffin makes me burst into tears no matter how many times I have watched it.
Can I add a TV series that would also be a 'soul movie'? The final two episodes of 'Cold Feet.' I loved the entire series but those two episodes were perfect. When they scattered Rachel's ashes was amazing.
But my one favourite scene that is absolutely amazing is when Adam finally starts grieving properly for Rachel and doesn't know what to do so he goes to Karen's. That moment when she opens the door, looks at him, and then says 'Oh, hello' and then tears just start running down his face... it is the best scene I've ever seen on television. Hermione Norris and James Nesbitt deserved some sort of award just for those fifteen seconds (it's probably less actually.)

I absolutely adore Love Actually! I watched it for the first time at my friend's house last year and was amazed that I hadn't seen it before, because it was so brilliant!

Sweeney Todd! I LOVE Sweeney Todd. It is my favorite movie ever!
Murderers + a musical = a masterpiece

hmmm...This is hard... For me, it would be X-Files: I want to believe. It has all the elements of what I really wished that I can be; especially the part about Scully being a doctor. And that is one movie that I would never forget. Mainly because of the whole thing with forgiveness and never giving up.
Though my soul movie, is actually a series. More accurately, the whole thing starting with Mulder's disappearance in 'Requiem' and his discovery in 'This is not happening' and the subsequent events in 'DeadAlive'. These three episodes never failed to make me cry, rejoice, and just feel a multitude of emotions. I especially loved the part when Scully screamed 'This is not happening' to the sky. It just has this whole sense of surrealism to it...

Hmm, mine would be Alfonso Cuaron's Little Princess, because, it's the only movie I've cried in, even though I've seen it dozens of times, it really touched me ... *sniffles* I know it's a kid's movie and all *blushes* but it's horribly sad. Yeah, Love Actually is great as well... I can't think of any other movie, there aren't many movies I've cried in .... well except Little Princess. Cheers!

It's ok, A Little Princess almost makes me cry every time I watch it. When she's crying for her dad... it's really sad.

Hmmm, I think I'll have to go with RENT. The plot was amazing, but it was kinda sad

'A Little Princess' is amazing. I remember seeing it with my Gran when it first came out and it was just magical. I'm sure I have it on video somewhere and I'll have to transfer it to DVD.
Another soul movie of mine (and this is embarrassing) is 'Beauty and the Beast.' It was the first movie that I ever saw and still love it to pieces. I was sick one day and put it on and completely burst into tears when the beast dies. What was terrible was that I was 17 but I will add that I was incredibly sick and doped up to my eyeballs on drugs so I cut myself some slack.

I LOVE "Beauty and the Beast"! My high school history teacher was actually one of the producers for it (she worked for Disney for 10 years).

I love Hercules too! Though I only saw it the once. I remember thinking how great it was at the time. And, of course, I love 'The Lion King'. I was babysitting yesterday and we watched it. I forgot how good it was. Though I had to console the child I was babysitting when Mafusa died.

'Lion King!' Oh my, I've seen that a gazillion times, nearly everyday at lunch when I was younger, lol, I couldn't digest lunch without it!
Yes, Mufasa dying is very sad ....

Last year my Spanish class watched the Lion King (in Spanish)and it still made me tear up. Especially when Simba said "papá?" when his dad died. For some reason it was even sadder in a different language... Lovely, now I sound like a dork!

Hi bee - being a huge Austen-Fan myself I am curious now, if you prefer the long, true to the book BBC-film, with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle or the Keira Knightley, M. McFadyen one with its marvellous soundtrack and sunrises...?? I own both, because I could never do without either of them ;D. Btw the first forum I ever became a member of, after discovering the net, is www.pemberley.com/ There one can analyse every single sentence of any of her novels, compare the films, discuss the costumes, actors, whatever

When the video rewinder broke my mom said I was so inconsolable that she brought me to my Mom-Mom's to watch her copy... I, of course, do not remember this.... hehe

thank you for the url micha! i cant believe i haven't seen it up until now. i assure you i'll be a frequent visitor in the future.
i love both p&p films for different reasons. i love the bbc version because of how well it portrays austen's original. on the other hand i love the modern keira film because of it's pastoral scenes, simplicity and overall beauty. im a bit of a nature loving hippie myself, so when forced to pick between the two i'd feel obliged to choose joe wright's film :] but you're right -- i would never dare to part with either of the versions.
