Michael Gambon apparently has been having an affair for seven years with a woman younger than his son with his wife. His son with the mistress, Michael, is 17 months and they are expected another one. Obviously, his wife knows of the affair but they aren't divorced. I've heard it is because of religion. (Like cheating on your wife isn't a sin) Gambon is 68. Does this disturb you any? I find it creepy. I never cared for Gambon anyway, but this tops the cake. I wish Richard Harris hadn't died. www.celebrity-babies.com/2008/10/sir-michael-gam.html#comments

Not surprising, really. *shrug*
As much as I adored Richard Harris, and his films, and miss him terribly as our beloved Albus, he was quite the hell-raiser in his day too. Really, really; he and Richard Burton were hooligans! Sexy, but hooligans!

Yes, I know, I read it when I Googled Michael Gambon, I really don't like him. Richard Harris was the best Dumbledore!

I've known this info for quite a while.
Did you know that while filming Gosford Park, he also went around introducing her as his girlfriend?

It doesn't surprise me either that he would do this, but I can't imagine what his wife and son must feel like. Especially his son, since the mistress is younger than him (nothing against age, it doesn't matter to me)

Ugh! One more reason for me to dislike him! Honestly he is such a horrid Dumbledore! I think the guy who played Gandolf in LOTR would have been a perfect choice for the new Dumbledore.

ooh yeah, Ian McKellan is fantastic. I thought I read somewhere that he wouldn't have taken the part though because of a feud between him and one of the Dumbledores, I think Richard Harris? Did anyone else hear that?

Yeah, Ian McKellen is the Dumbledore I see in my mind forever - that's why I couldn't even like Richard Harris (not to mention.Gambon). I also heard, that he didn't want the role, but I have no idea why If I do fanart, I always use Gandalf instead of Albus (as you may have noticed in my avatar ;D) For whoever wants to take a look - here is a link to a wonderful youtube-video Nothing I can say, which shows many of the parallels between LotR and HP. How much despair there is in Gandalf/Albus to have to put this burden on Frodo/Harry, how he seeks his forgiveness - and the "Death-scene" in Moria reminds me a lot of the Astronomy-Tower-Scene...how Frodo/Harry see their idolized mentor fall...

yeah i wondered why Ian McKellen never wanted to do it either, i suppose he already signed up to LOTR before hand (dunno if was or mentioned at time of potter) but also mean great distance to working on films and also prob messed up HP filming sceduale for suitin him, but i am curious to why he didn't want to do part even after first 2 movies were done(opening for 3rd onwards) and LOTR out of the way

I'm not sure if I have this correct, but I heard that he didn't want to do another old wizard role. Something about not wanting to be typecasted

I heard he didn't want the role of playing an old wizard and he didn't want to be part of the know-nothing adult cast in HP.

It's because if he did play Dumbledore, he would always be known as an old wizard. Ian McKellen is one of the best actors ever who has played a variety of roles. He didn't want to fall into that trap of being known for one role only. Not when he's had so much success with other roles.

I so wish Ian McKellen would have played Dumbledore instead of Gambon, (who is quite terrible in the role), I just rewatched fellowship of the ring for the unpteenth time, and all I could see when I saw Gandalf was Dumbledore, which was a little annoying. He even did multiple Dumbledore like twinkles, and would certainly have had enough respect for the role to at least read the books unlike Gambon.
I did read somewhere that he may have refused to play the part because Richard Harris said he was a bad actor, did anyone else read this ?
I did also wonder if someone like Peter O' Toole would have done Dumbledore better than Gambon ? I've never liked Gambon, and now positively loathe him.

Really, really; he and Richard Burton were hooligans! Sexy, but hooligans! Hooligans? Well that's one way to put it but Richard Burton was nothing but a... ah I'll resist saying what I really wanna call him as much as I love him. Sexy as hell yes and a but of a man slut lol he slept with all most all of his leading women (notice I said almost) though I think Richard Harris was just as bad(I was in love with him in Hawaii such a good movie) Gambon is just a bad Dumbledore he's not relaxed enough for me(or tall enough... he's too short next to Maggie but that might just be in my head). There weren't a lot of people that wanted to play Dumbly though(poor guy) even Richard Harris wouldn't do it until his granddaughter(or great-granddaughter) said she'd never speak to him again. I think their kids were a lot of the reason a lot of the adults did HP. Gary Oldman did it so his kids could watch one of his movies with him and Emma Thomasan(sp) had a similar reason.

Gambon's affair isn't that shocking for me, I've heard worse... but it must be hard for his wife, especially ( I knew there was a reason I didn't like him!!! gnap!) but I DO miss Richard Harris... as for the fantastic Ian McKellen doing Albus... the nose isn't right lol no, just joking...0 he would have been great, but I respect his choice of not doing Albus... *love you Ian and Richard* ;D
