Souls out of chests
‘What are they doing?’
‘Don’t know. I guess they must be arguing’
‘Yes, yes…They’re fighting Severus. That’s The headmaster…and now I can hear Minerva. Is…Is he …shouting at her?’
‘My, my, that girl needs to learn to behave…’
Albus Dumbledore was by all means, a patient man. Minerva McGonagall, however was no patient woman. She’d learned how to ‘behave’ many years ago, not to punch people in the nose and not to go hexing them, either, but that didn’t make her patient.
It was usually, Professor McGonagall who screamed. This once, it was him, Dumbledore, yelling at her.
*
She could not believe it. She listened to him, standing there with her hand trembling on her mouth. She was disarmed shocked. She could not remember the last time he’d been so angry at her.
And he was going on, now it was just a deadly whisper, a mean voice. Did he not see she was trembling from head to foot.
‘I…’ ‘I’m’ She stuttered. She couldn’t speak, she couldn’t face him. She knew her excuse was lame, her story bad and…and… She was weak, there was nothing she could do…
‘I trusted you. Why didn’t you do anything’ he ended. He was right. She’d left a soul be sucked from man’s chest, in his office. But she couldn’t tell him. She couldn’t say what the dementors did to her. The effect they had on her… She hoped Severus wouldn’t say…the minister would, but she didn’t want to…oh she was ashamed.
‘I couldn’t do it’ she felt like a young girl again, trembling in front of the headmaster. ‘Forgive me.’
‘You’ pause ’ You couldn’t summon a patronus?’ He was deadly serious.
He scared her.
‘I’ve seen it a hundred times.’
‘Minerva why are lying to me?’
‘I…’
‘The cat. I know’
‘Yes, the cat. ..Erm… Doesn’t like dementors.’
‘You mean she disappeared?’
‘No…She …meowed, and erm…hid behind my leg.’
‘You’re joking?’ he wasn’t angry. Now he was mocking her.
‘Cats don’t make such great patronuses…I don’t understand though, nothing of this sort has happened before’
’ What did you see?’
‘…You know, I’m not proud…All right… I killed someone when I was 5…Bloody, really.Yes a lot of blood…I saw him yelling before he died…You know, all the blood oozing. Coming up his nose and…Yes then he’s vomiting…you know… blood ’
‘Who?’
‘My erm…father’
‘Why?’
‘I’m….He asked me to do it…I didn’t understand…I trusted…the suicidal motherfucker’
‘why didn’t you tell me?’
‘It’s disgusting. I’m sorry’
‘I wouldn’t’ve believed it. You, of all people Minerva.’
‘Well we all have a weak point. But I can deal with dementors alright, Headmaster. This time it was different. It all came back to me…Then it was more real than the rest and…Something to do with this place. ‘ pause
’I’ve failed you’
She turned around and left his office. She knew her presence wasn’t wanted just now and she didn’t want him to ask her to go away.
*
‘Oh,my god’
‘Madam Pomprefy-‘ Snape dragged the woman out of the way.
The end.
Is it bad?
