I'm sure this has been asked before but I'd like to send a letter to a celebrity (dum dum dum!!) and was wondering what on earth to put in it. I don't want an autograph (well I do but that's not the purpose of this letter) it's more of a 'thank you.'
Any ideas?

This is the fanletter I wrote to Dame Maggie Smith (haven't had a chance to send it yet, though ) Dear Dame Maggie, I have been a fan of yours for many years now – ever since 2004. In 2002, when I was twelve years old, I first discovered the book “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. Two years after reading, and loving, the book, I discovered that there was also a movie, which I immediately purchased. I loved the movie – it was absolutely marvellous – and I was completely entranced by your performance. Though there were a few inconsistencies with the translation of the book into the movie (such as the fact that Miss Brodie has six ‘girls’ in the book and only four in the movie), they did not detract from the magnificence of the film. And I must say that “Jean Brodie” is the only film I love just as much as its original book version. After seeing “Jean Brodie”, I immediately searched out more of your movies. I had, of course, seen “Hook” and “The Secret Garden”, as well as “David Copperfield”, in my younger years, but I re-watched them with a deeper appreciation of your performance. Over the past four years, I’ve truly come to admire you as a person and as one of the world’s best actresses. I’ve seen nearly all of your films, but “Jean Brodie” holds a special place in my heart. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this, as it makes me sound like a rabid, obsessed fan (which I’m not!), but I’m a member of the “Dameulous” forum (which is a forum dedicated to discussing your work), and I run a LiveJournal community called “Dame Maggie Daily”, in which every day we post a picture from one of your movies. To be perfectly honest, I’ve never written a ‘fan letter’ before, so I apologise if it comes off as too familiar or too gushing. I just wanted to tell you how much I really do admire you – as a person and as an actress. Best wishes, Sarah I hope this helps!!!

The letter was lovely! I've never written a letter to a celebrity either. I never am able to work up the needed nerve. (I wrote to several political people, but that's a bit different, eh?)
Again the letter is fabulous and I wouldn't worry about it being to "gushy" or anything.

That is a lovely letter but this is more a 'thank you' rather than anything else.
Anyway, I think I have it anyway. I'm sending it tomorrow!
