Title: I have Honored your Request for Silence
Summary: Minerva is forced to deal with the murder of Albus.
Rating: PG - with very slight language.
A/N - I have been listening to a song that someone made into a mmad video on youtube & it made me think of how she would have handled his death if they were married. I have no idea as to where this story should actually go, so I'm posting it here. ((I actually cried writing this & im not a sappy person v.v))

She stood outside at the base of the tower from which he had fallen from. The fight against the Death Eaters was over and only a few students had been seriously injured. She was kneeling in the mud as the rain came down around her, no one realizing that she had disappeared. Soon the news had spread that he had died and people found her kneeling in the mud by his broken body. She was shaking, her body wracked by the tears that continually streamed down her cheeks. She felt a hand on her shoulder, but didn’t turn to see who it was, refusing to move from that spot. That night she lay next to him, crying and not comprehending it.
The next day was a grim day as the newly appointed Headmistress sat next to the grand chair that had been his. She soon left the Great Hall and stood outside of the stone gargoyle that lead to their, no her chambers. She sat down at its base and cried; her head in her hands.
“Professor McGonagall…” She looked up and saw two boys and two girls staring at her. She looked up and her body was wracked by more sobs. The two girls rushed over and comforted her, helping her up. The gargoyle moved aside, no longer needing a password as the new Headmistress had not created one.
The five of them made their way into his former office where she cried even harder upon seeing his portrait behind the desk chair. She pulled from the two girls’ grasp and walked over to it. “WHY! WHY, WHEN I KEPT YOUR VOW! I NEVER TOLD ANYONE! YOU CAN’T LEAVE ME NOW!” The four behind her were taken aback as all the other portraits suddenly emptied except his. “ALBUS PERCIVAL WULFRIC BRIAN DUMBLEDORE ANSWER ME THIS INSTANT!”
They heard a sigh come from the portrait, “Minerva, my dear, if I had the choice I wouldn’t have. I can’t stand to see you like this. Please pull yourself together.” He looked at the door. “Harry come here.” Harry walked forward, unsure. “Please comfort her for me. Hold her close.” Harry had to strain to hear what he was saying, but nodded and fought the tears that were now threatening to come as he hugged his professor. She clung to him and cried on his shoulder.
“I need you Albus…” she said softly looking up at the portrait. “I KEPT THE BLOODY VOW OF SILENCE ASKED OF ME! Now I have no one to turn to for…ANYTHING!” She sunk to her knees, pulling Harry down with her. “You and this school were my life.” She let Harry go, not realizing that he had some tears streaming down his face also. The other three came over to try and be of some help. “FOR MERLIN’S SAKE ALBUS I LOVE YOU!” She never realized that the ring he had given reappeared on her wedding finger.
“Professor…” Minerva looked up at the red haired girl who was crying with her. “This may seem stupid, but were you married to the headmaster?” Her gaze shifted up to the portrait of him which gave her a quick nod.
“Come…” She stood up and placed an arm around Harry’s and Ginny’s shoulders. She led them back to the couch, making them sit. Harry placed an arm around Ginny as she had silent tears streaming down her face. Hermione and Ron sat on the couch opposite them as their professor sat in a chair between them.
“Yes, Miss Weasley I am, or was, for fifty years. I couldn’t have been happier.” She looked at them, the tears left on her cheeks, unable to bring herself to wipe them off. “I married him several years after I left the school. We kept it secret as he had many enemies at the time. As the years passed times grew dark again after a short period of calm.” She looked back at the portrait, a longing in her eyes. “He refused to place me in any danger, forcing us to make the decision to not have any children. The school took care of that though; we made every student that came through the doors our child.”
“Ta-Minerva…you shouldn’t…” The portrait started as her hand came up and he died off.
“There is no point in hiding the fact now Albus. Nothing will ever hurt as bad as this does.” She proceeded to cry once again and Ginny got up to comfort her. Shushing and rubbing her back.
“Ronald, go get Madam Pomfrey.” The portrait ordered from behind the desk. Ron nodded and disappeared out the door.
Several minutes passed and finally Poppy Pomfrey appeared with Ron behind her. She looked at the Headmistress and sighed.
“Minerva Tabatha McGonagall, pull yourself together.” Her voice was soft yet demanding. “The staff needs you, the school needs you, your-“ she was abruptly cut off by Ginny.
“We need you, your students…professor.” The professor swallowed, turning back to the portrait.
“Albus…” Her voice wavered slightly, “I don’t think I’m ready for this.”
“You’re the Head of Gryffindor house, feared by your students, not crossed by your colleagues. You are ready, you always have been. You’re the lioness the school needs in this horribly dark time.”
The tears stopped as she suddenly sat up stiffly. The four were afraid she was going to tell them off, till they saw her smiling. “Thank you, all of you. Poppy, dear, I’ll be up to see you in a bit. Please return to the students that need to be looked at, I can wait.” With a nod she left the room. Minerva stood up and stood in front of the desk, her back to them. The four got up and were almost out of the room, “Thank you, I was being selfish.” She had turned to face them, “I realize that this his death affects the entire wizarding world. Please tell no one of my marriage to him. It may no longer be a weapon against either of us, but now I hold you to the same request I have honored for fifty years.”
They walked back to her as she noted that Harry held Ginny close. “I request that you keep this silent.”
“You have our vow professor.” The four turned to leave.
“Harry, may I speak to you quickly. I won’t keep him long.” Harry turned around and the other three left, shutting the door. Tears were at the edge of her eyes again. “Distance yourself from her. Otherwise she may be something that could be used against you.”
Harry made to speak but the portrait of the former headmaster cut him off. “Harry, learn from us. With Tom Riddle gone you can be with her without worries about him coming to find you or your family.” A glance passed between husband and wife. “You have our support.”
Minerva walked over to her student and took him by the shoulders, leading him out of the office. She glanced back over her shoulder to look at the portrait, to see her husband’s encouraging smile and his twinkling eyes. “I love you too…” She muttered as she closed the door behind her.
