Okay, so I was just wondering what kind of things people would like in a vampire story. What part of the vampire lore do you like and not like? What kind of modern twist are people looking to see?
Personally, I'm looking for something where vampires are quite vicious. None of this "vegetarian" stuff, but that's just me.
What about all of you?

I really dislike all this ¨vegetarian¨ stuff that Twilight started. I personally think that the true nature of vampires resides in drinking blood, not only because they need it to survive but because blood sometimes symbolises life and soul, and vampires are dark creatures who need to drink it because they have a dark soul or no soul at all, or something like that. They are monsters. Therefore, I find a story more interesting when the author makes a monster fall in love with a human. I think that if you make a vampire drink only animals blood you're missing the whole point in a vampires nature and also the dark sensual game between the creature and the human for there is something very alluring in the slim line where the human cannot determinate if the vampire wants he or she because of love or because it sees him/her as a source of food.
I also don't like heroines when they have weak personalities. That's why I preffer a story like Hellsing (It's an anime) The heroine (Integra Hellsing) is an English Protestant Knight who rules an organization that is in charge of killing vampires. But her secret weapon is Alucard, a vampire (who is actually Count Dracula) who follows her orders because she's the descendant of Van Helsing, who had captured Dracula and bounded him to his family by magic. In that relationship there is tension because they are both in love with each other, but he the monster she is supposed to kill and he would like to turn her into a vampiress. So there you can see they strugling for control and power, that's something much more interesting I think.
Twilight is a modern romance novel, but it's lacking in the darkness that a relationship between a human and a vampire needs. I hope I'm not offending anyone, this is just my opinion ^^U
But if I were to choose a monster I totally preffer werewolves! There are few stories about them without envolving vamps!.....I should try to write something

Ooh, you know what would be awesome? If you wrote a vampire/human romance where they were struggling with the bloodsucking thing and at the end he kills her That would mean you could end it with a whole load of brilliant angst. And then he falls in love with someone else and it starts all over again. Or it's revealed that this has happened many times before. (That's where I hoped Twilight was going.) And the vampire shouldn't sparkle.

Wow. I had forgotten about this thread completely. At the time I had a brilliant idea for a vampire novel that I wanted to work on. It actually inspired me to look up the stuff I had decided to do on it. But thank you for all of the suggestions!

Okay for starters Twilight ruined vampires. Sparkling, vegetarians...ugh were do I not end?!
But I have to say what lures me in is mainly the darkness, yet senxual mystisim that vampires carry. How some can be completely cruel, yet soften (Not completely) when they meet their match (Not someone like Bella). Also, the history behind them.
