A post I wrote a few months ago entitled "A Cry for Realism" and then forgot completely about, was recently sent back to me by a member of this board, and I think I had better explain, and perhaps apologize a bit for what I said. When I wrote that, I had been having a particularly bad time finding any good fanfics. Most of my bad mood came from other sites, such as fanfiction.net, where I don't have the opportunity to rant the way I did. I had no idea that it would get such a response.
I didn't in any way mean to call all teenagers moronic, or imply that the authors on this site are bad, or are teenagers, or are moronic. I was simply very frustrated. I don't read that part of the board very often, so I had no idea that anyone had even replied. If I had known, I would have replied far sooner.
I appreciate all of the people who signed in to comment on the discussion that ensued. Thank you for being honest enough to say who you are. Thank you to those who took the same view with the first two anonymous comments. I'm glad you were able to have such an interesting discussion based on my random rantings. That doesn't happen very often. It seems like a lot of things have stagnated lately.
I know that everyone writes fanfics to blow off steam and to get rid of those plotbunnies you could never actually use in an original work you wanted to publish, which is what I have been spending my time on lately. I don't have a problem with stories that are meant to be cheesy and fun. What I dislike are the stories written by people who don't bother to use correct spellings, completely and totally disregard the established personality of the characters, change entire chunks of canon plot, and write really bad endings.
The vast majority of people on this site don't do that, and I'm sorry if it sounded like I implied that. I would write more, but I've got to be at the theatre in less than twenty minutes, and if I'm not backstage by then my director will throw a fit.
Thank you for allowing me to explain myself.
