I have noticed that the most of us (including myself ;D ) makes Minerva win most of her and Albus' chess games... why is that? Is it something I have missed in the books? I would think not as I doubt that Harry has ever seen them play chess. Is it because of Minerva's giant chess game in PS/SS? Is it because we feel that Albus is a great wizard so Minerva should beat him in chess to keep him on the ground? Or does it just come naturally with the nature of Minerva ? I dunno... what's your answer?? Cammie!!

I think it's because we like to give her something that she can trump Dumbledore at.
Dumbledore is as near to omniscient as one gets in the books. Even taking Harry's rather biased POV into account, we still see clearly that Dumbledore is a brilliant man. Chess is a forum where Minerva can beat him without it seeming deeply improbable. I suppose it's sort of a comfort blanket staple - it's something that McGonagall conceivably could be better at than Albus is, and it does something to even the playing pitch between them in a story.
