This may sound kind of weird, but does anyone know someone who they find similar to Albus or Minerva? I am asking because Minerva reminds me so much of my Grade 8 teacher. Her name is Mrs. Murphy and she is still my favourite teacher. Anyways, she is definately strict and tough, but her classes are interesting and she has the same kind of softness on the inside that we all imagine Min to have. Basing this on what J.K.R. has written in her books, they both have the same type of humour too. I am just wondering if anyone else sees any parallels between these HP characters and people they know.

LOL, good topic. Well, I had the luck (just like Harry and co) to have a head of class like Minerva for 8 years. At first she seemed very strict, but as the years passed we found out that she had a good sense of humour and that she cared about us very much; it were only glimpses, mind you but they were memorable moments. In fact, I base my belief that canon Minerva is or has been married with children on the fact that my former head of class has a husband and kids too. Can't wait to be proven right...or wrong. LOL Minerva-like teachers are a bit hard to appreciate while they teach you, I remember us wishing that our teacher would show more emotion or compassion - and in the end she did, just like Min in OOTP or HBP.

I know a Minerva like teacher. She is a maths teacher at my school, and she has the same sanse of humour and the same accent as I imagine Minerva to have (I live in Scotland). I was so suprised to find out that she had two sons, I hope we get the same kind of suprise with Minerva!! (I actually LOVE one of her sons, he is soooooooo hot!!!")

I do know a real life couple that reminds me of Albus and Minerva and I'll tell the entire story later; I'm quite busy. I'm so glad Jessabelle started this thread!

My granddad and my kind of step Nan remind me of Albus and Minerva! My Granddad looks like Terry Pratchet's Rincewind with silver hair and my step Nan looks a bit like Judi Dench. It's hard to explain really but there is a large age gap between them and my Grandfather is always making rather crude and smutty jokes/suggestions where my Nan usually hisses or just glares at him I’m really not sure what it is but they are just so AD/MM hummm...
My head of year also reminds me slightly of Minerva I guess it’s the way she holds herself and her accent.

Don't really know anyone like them. My teachers while great don't have their amazingness ^^" But my friend has a teacher called Miss McGonagle, which always makes me laugh.

last year i had to do a HP survey in school; I asked about 15 HP related questions, and one of them was, if one knows some people, comparable to those out of the HPbooks... well, the result was , that most people know a Hermoine and a Snape... McGonagall and Dumbledore had been on number 4 and 5 ...

Actually, I think my mom looks like McGonagall. A younger version She's got dark hair (not black, but dark ) and glasses, and she can look really stern... But she's too crazy when it comes to behaving, I think I call my dad 'Snape' sometimes, he's got the bestest Snapey-imitation look... Heh heh... Pal, =_O

I always thought that my former math teacher behaves like Dumbledore. He was always so kind and understanding and gave everybody a second chance.

Oh, my last Russian teacher quite reminds me of Albus if I'm honest. *g* He's one of the few persons I'd call "wise" and... he does have a rather wicked sense of humour at times. *g* But the same gentleness we so like in Albus ... just no beard.

Okay, here's my story. This summer I went on a mission trip to Costa Rica with my youth group and some adults from my church. On the trip was this awsome couple who were probably in their 50s-60s. I won't say their names so from now on I'll call them Albus and Minerva. They were both really nice and spent a lot of time talking with the youth on the trip. One night before dinner we were asking Albus how he and Minerva had met. He said that he had begun his teaching career at her high school, (and no, nothing happend while she was at school!), she left town after she graduated but came back to that same school to teach a few years later. Then they started dating and got married. They moved around a bit teaching but settled in the town they currently live in. He's retired but teaches math at the community college and she is the principle of one of the most prestigeous private high schools in the city. She also substitutes for the elementary math teachers at times. (So she taught his same subject!) The whole week I kept thinking they were so like the real AD&MM...she is tall and thin with short black hair that has some grey in it and his eyes are sort of greyish blue. I couldn't help smiling when they shared an ice cream cone and I have a picture of them dancing!

God, that really sounds like an AD/MM fic. ;D Wonderful. yeah, maybe I should write it! May I ask, your avatar says HMS Potions and Poise, Snape is obviously Potions, but who is Poise; I can't tell from the picture.

I feel very lucky to have known quite a few people who remind me of Albus and Minerva.
My mama first and foremost. She is somewhat strict, but on the inside she's quite a softy who can't resist my brother and I.
My music and religion teacher, Mrs. Maruska, all through middle school also reminds me of Minerva. All thirty of us middle-schoolers cowered before her. She commanded attention just by walking in the door. Most thought she was overly strict but after we graduated, we realized how wrong we were.
My AP World History and AP Composition teachers this year remind me of Albus. Both, I swear are crazy. Brilliant but eccentric and a lot of fun in the Blue House centrum. Many days I come home with a stitch in my side.
Well, I suppose I should stop here; I may overstay my welcome on this thread. I hope the rest of you have had the opportunity or will have the opportunity to know someone who is like our amazing duo!

The couple that you know Childminerva, sound so cute! That trip must have been an amazing experience, I'd love to go to Costa Rica! One thing I for got to mention about the teacher I was writing about is that her initials are also M.M. I just thought that it was one more interesting connection! Isabelle, it sounds as though you have had the fortunate opportunity of meeting several people like Minerva and Albus! I am surprised that you didn't start a thread like this ... lol! Please feel free to share more with us! - Jess

I honestly think that my violin teacher is a 99.9% match to minerva. She is strict but is also very supporting, and will encourage me and all of her other students to keep trying and not to give up just and minerva would. ^-^
She looks quite like Maggie Smith as well.

My 6th grade reading teacher reminded me alot of Minerva. She's really strict but she's pretty nice. She supports the sport teams (I wonder which Hogwarts teacher does that) and she's a sweet heart sometimes. And she looks almost exactly like Maggie Smith!

I wish I could say my violin teacher was like Albus....he certainly is eccentric. But unfortunately he is nothing like Albus in any other way. I can't say that I know a real life Minerva either, but she has always reminded me of Marilla in the Anne of Green Gables books...

I can't say that I know a real life Minerva either, but she has always reminded me of Marilla in the Anne of Green Gables books... That's what I first thought when I read the Anne books the first time (which isn't that long ago... I'm a poor deprived child who never read Anne until she was 15.. ) !!

I think the Marilla-Minerva one is a rather harsh comparison. Or rather, it might have been true in the fifties, but is definitely not true anymore in the nineties when Harry attends Hogwarts. Not all hard persons have previously been hard on the inside so I'm not sure that there was a need for such softening for Min whereas this was the case with Marilla. Btw, I love the Anne books and Marilla in it - if you thought otherwise based on this post.

I definitely know a real-life Minerva.
She's my chorus teacher, and she is really, really strict at times. She has a bit of a short temper and only a few have ever dared to grate on her nerves. She has this insane sense of humor that shows very little, and she can crack everyone up because she has such a serious face, the kind of face that makes you expect her to be some sort of grammar school matron.
