I was just watching SS, and noticed an interesting tidbit. The Plaque next to James potter (This is where Hermione is showing Harry that his dad was a seeker) reads: 1971 M.G McGonagall Min would have been out of school and teaching already, so do you think it's saying she was head of house?

always made me wonder seein that name in the film if it's one of McGonagall's connections (younger sister? neice? child?) or someone with same name

I think it was just the set designers being stupid, frankly...

It's her and dumbledores son/daughter of course. Raised under McGonagalls name.

Kind of off topic- but it says she danced with Ludo Bagman at the Yule Ball in GoF. I can't remember for the life of me if that's true, it's been years since I read GoF. Was the Yule Ball dancing bit with Albus only in the movie? Or was it in the book as well?

To be honest I hadn't even noticed the name connection there. Kind of embarassing really.

I hadn't either.
and to be honest I don't even know if the GOF scene happened in the book. For some reason I think that it did, though. I could easily walk the 5 feet to the bookshelf to look but... yeah... *shrugs*
Also Minerva's past is left vague. I think JK wanted it like that. So maybe we think she has a kid, maybe we think she doesn't. I don't know if she ever intended to write Minerva as more than she was, so I guess M. G. Mcgonagall is whoever we want it to be.

No, Albus and Minerva didn't really dance in the GoF book. In the book, Minerva danced with Ludo Bagman. That's what makes it great that they actually put it in the movie.

Yes, even if Gambon doesn't even look at Maggie, just sort of gropes for her hand...Stupid Michael Gambon....
