A song fic for Breathe (2 am) by Anna Nalick takes place while Minerva is a seventh year
2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason
Minerva went to the transfiguration professor’s office on a cold December night with tears running down her face at 2 in the morning. She shoved a note in the professor’s face and collapsed to the floor. Albus hurriedly read the note he got up and collected his student from the floor and held her while she cried. “ I don’t love him.”
Almost every Hogwarts student glared at her or whispered about her. Since her rape earlier that month she had gone to Albus for help. He comforted her and she had fallen in love with him in her first year when a fourth year Ravenclaw fell and twisted her ankle. He had wiped her tears and picked her up and carried her to Madam Pomfrey.
He also harbored secret feelings for his head girl.
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
She often fell asleep in his arms and he would carry her back to her chambers. Dippet wasn’t happy about this but as long as they kept it professional she could continue to visit him. It was often that he reminded her to breathe and to ignore the glares. From the Slytherins it was worst.
May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
Lucius Malfoy was a seventh year Slytherin at the time and had been the one to rape Minerva. They had dated for a while but when Lucius wanted to take it further she didn’t and he took matters into his own hands instead of waiting. He had become an alcoholic and how he managed to get through school surprised everyone.
Albus had found her unconscious and bleeding with ripped robes in the corridor outside of the dungeons, he had also used the cruciatus curse on her. Albus gathered her into his arms and very gently carried her to the infirmary. She awoke a few hours later to see her favorite teacher sitting by her bed.
Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
Minerva was in a lot of pain but had to suppress a giggle when she saw the look on his face. He was so cute when he was asleep. She gently reached over and touched his shoulder. As she reached she was reminded of the pain that she was in. He woke just as she gave a wince of pain. He looked worried and called Prudence. He asked her what had happened but her memory was wiped.
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.
Prudence looked Minerva over and gave her a sympathetic look and a dreamless sleep potion. As the potion took effect she felt Albus brush the hair from her face. His hand took hers and his thumb rubbed circles on her palm.
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
It was 2 in the morning but this fact escaped Minerva as she sat in her room writing a song. Every once in a while she would stop, put her head in her hands and breathe. Focusing on inhaling, exhaling, over and over again. In the morning she would go to Albus and show him the song with bags under her eyes and sing it for him.
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe.
When asked what she thought she would say that life is too short for regrets and that life is like a summer wind, it blows once but the same breeze doesn’t blow twice.
