Disclamer: I don´t own Harry Potter.
Summary: Minerva was accidentally sent to an alternative universe many years ago, in the Department of Mysteries. It only took a few days in our world, but she stayed in the other world for years. The people in the Department of Mysteries thought it was best to erase her memories. The spell did not work properly, and she is starting to remember. AD+MM, for old times’ sake…

„I cannot hear you, I have got a banana in my ear“
Minerva McGonagall slammed the painting closed, and stepped into her chambers and kicked off her ankle boots, which landed in an unceremonious heap on the floor. She brought her hand to her forehead, a frustrated, slightly weary expression on her face. Dolores Umbridge had attempted to transfigure a pillar into a penguin, not minding the standard rules, resulting in that it exploded. Minerva walked into the bathroom and flicked her wand casually at the bathtub and it immediately begun to fill with water. A few minutes later she was soaking in the gorgeously warm, scented water and her mind wandered to her relationship with Albus. He did not like all those restrictions Umbridge had put up and had confided in her over their usual game of chess that he wanted the Defense against the Dark Arts gone. Then he had smiled quite lovingly at her and filled her empty cup with tea. She was troubled by the fact that the phrase best friends, did not fit them, nor did courtship, strictly or couple for that matter. They were far closer than a deputy and headmaster usually were, just enough to get the rumors flying. She was dead tired of waiting for the smallest signal, of either that he did like her, or the other way around. At times she was certain of that he was flirting with her, but at the same time a small voice inside her head said that he was just being gentlemanly and friendly. She disliked these thoughts but could never quite dismiss them. Minerva stepped out of the spacious bathtub, wrapping herself in a crimson towel and heading for the bedroom. Quickly dressing in a nightgown she closed the curtains, and the view of the dark clouds and the burning Whomping Willow disappeared.
The ballroom had mosaic windows and was lit with a large chandelier which emitted a golden light. She looked down at herself and saw that she was wearing a dark green evening dress, and could feel her hair tickling her bare back. Albus was walking towards her, clad in deep purple robes. He looked different from the Albus she had just seen hours before. His hair and beard were shorter, and there was a large scar on his neck and on the palm of his hand. There was no hesitation in his movements when he took her hand. They waltzed slowly to the soft music and she could not help but smile. His eyes never left hers, and Minerva became sure that this was defiantly a different Albus when he spun her playfully around and danced much closer to her than they ever had in her world. Minerva felt the feelings she had kept in an iron cage being released. She felt an almost delirious sense of relief, and that was when she caught a glimpse of their wedding rings. Minerva felt as if the world had stopped spinning, but she felt herself continue dancing. It was only then when she realized that this was her own memory, or some strange mixture of memory and a dream. She felt Albus push her towards himself, by gently embracing her, and Minerva didn´t care that this wasn´t the Albus who existed in her wake.
Albus Dumbledore had been replaced by Umbridge for far too long, Minerva thought grumpily, and stared at the ceiling of her room in St.Mugos. It was still an annoying orange. She had kept her flashes of memory of an another world to herself. There came times when she was worried about if her head was just making this all up to make her heart happy, and at other times it felt completely natural. A brisk knock was heard, but Minerva did not bother to turn her head. Eighteen healers had already lost their way just tonight. They had all wanted to talk to her, all sporting alarmed expressions when they saw her. She had seen their hands twitch in longing for their wands when they had read her patient report. Anger had twisted their features, and possessiveness, after all they had know her for a large part of their lives. She could see bloodlust in some of those eyes. A part of her was grimly pleased.
Minerva leaned on her walking stick and mounted the stairs that lead to the hall that held the entry to the Headmaster´s office. As the students stopped dead in their tracks when they saw her, faces lighting up with glee she thought about the Potter boy. It saddened her, the way Albus had shunned him, even cruel. Was Albus punishing him? Was he punishing himself? Albus had not come to visit her while she was in the hospital, she knew his reasons but she was still angry with him about it. Sometimes she despised him. The Headmaster´s office was a complete wreck, to say the least and Albus was not there, and the former Heads of Hogwarts informed her that he was in his chambers. She found him sitting in a large armchair, a battered book in his hands; it had a goat on the cover. His eyes looked slightly swollen. As soon as he noticed her he hurried towards her, a relived expression on his face. He hugged her, being very careful of not hurting her and for a much longer time than he had ever before. She could feel his heartbeat, and was alarmed by how tired he looked. When they parted, he looked very grave. –“ I am so sorry that she did this to you, my dear, that I let her. I´m also very sorry that I did not visit you, in the hospital.” His voice was laced with self-hatred. I was staying with Abe, my brother, he crushed me against himself. I believe it was the warmest gesture he has made towards me in over half a century. I had been pacing around his living room, and I was afraid that he would glue me to the wall so I would not go after those who attacked you Albus said, a faraway look in his eyes. When he loosened his grip on me he must have Stunned me because when I woke up I was in my old bedroom. Minerva had listened attentively to his small speech, and was surprised when Albus leaned forward and kissed her softly on the lips. Her entire body tensed in shock, and when he pulled away she kissed him back. It had been a soft kiss and Minerva felt her heart jump wildly around in her chest. A few moments later Albus excused himself, explaining that he had had a tiresome night and wished to take a nap. Minerva left his chambers, a little skip in her walk. Her world had been turned upside down by this simple gesture, and her feelings were all over the place. She could not help smiling.
