It had now been 1 week since Minerva had seen Albus and she was not coping well. She missed him everyday in the great hall, during classes and especially in their bed at night. Min had never realized how cold she bed got when she was alone. Minerva was currently in the middle of a fourth year Gryffindor and Ravenclaw class. The students were well behaved and knew what they had to do so it wasn’t that much of a bother for her.
Suddenly Minerva had a sharp pain below her stomach.
She wasn’t sure what was the cause but all she could think about was the pain. It hurt, not your regular paper cut hurt.. no this was much worse, it felt as though she had a sword of some kind stabbed into her pelvic area. She hobbled over to the closest desk for support.
“Professor, are you alright??”
“Fine Ms Granger, just a stomach ache.” Minerva replied in a jerky unsure voice.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t like to call for Madam Pomfrey?”
“No, no don’t worry about me just get on with your work.”
Hermione looked back down at her work but still seemed to be worried for her head of house.
Minerva had later that day decided to go see a doctor about these pains, she had been having them since Albus left and wasn’t sure what could be going on. She knew for a fact that it couldn’t be menopause, that had come and gone years ago, she was far too old now. Min didn’t want to go see Poppy because she was a good friend too Albus as well as herself, She also didn’t want to bother Albus while he was on his business trip so she went to St Mungos. She hated the place, it was always so cold and unwelcoming, but what more could you expect from a hospital. Minerva had figured, I’ll go in now, see the doctor, get medication if needed and leave.
“Minerva McGonagall, you doctor is waiting.” Said a gloomy old woman who didn’t seem to be enjoying her job.
Minerva got up from her seat and walked into the room to sit down in front of an old looking wizard with a grey beard, brown eyes and black robes.
“So Ms McGonagall, what seems to be the problem?”
Minerva explained her issues with the pain and the area in which she had been receiving it. The old doctor seemed to be concerned, he explained to Minerva that some tests will have to be done and that her results will be mailed to her within the next 3 weeks.
“Thank you doctor.”
Min then left St Mungos hoping not to have to enter again.
The pain continued for the next week or so but she had no choice but to work though it. Minerva just had to think.. One more week and Albus will be home, Just one week.
Minerva was finally in heaven, rolling on the floor with her husband in front of a blazing fire on top of a soft warm carpet. In the strong embrace of the one she loved most.
“Albus stop it!”
“And why should I do that my dear?”
“You’re tickling me!!”
“I like tickling you!”
“Really, come on were going to be late!”
“Fine then my love, as you wish.”
“I wish we could stay here! But given the current circumstances it would be highly un-professional of us.”
Minerva pushed herself up from the floor only to feel a gentle tug on her ankle, she looked down to face her beloved husband.
“I’m sure they wont miss us for one night Tabby.. Why don’t we finish what we started?”
Minerva smiled and put her hand out, Albus grasped her Petit hand and lead her to his bed chambers.
Minerva was woken the next morning by a loud squawking, she opened her eyes to see a fat grey owl perched on top of Albus’ large chair. She looked over her shoulder to check for Albus, he wasn’t there.
She stood up, walked to the owl and paid him, she then picked up the letters and walked back to the bed. Flicking through the letters, the vast majority of which were knitting club subscriptions addressed to Albus, she found one important letter addressed to herself. Only knowing too well the contents Minerva ripped the envelope open, Minerva began to read and found herself wanting to cry. She couldn’t help it, she was now sobbing uncontrollably. Albus came running in, he knelt down besides her now looking into her deep forest green eyes that were pouring with tears.
“Minerva my dear what is it?!”
Wiping away her tears while cupping her face with his immense hands Albus was willing to try anything to comfort Minerva. He hugged her while she billowed with tears until she was finally ready to speak.
“Albus… I didn’t tell you this any sooner because I thought it was nothing.”
“Minerva my love, you can tell me anything, remember we took vows, I am your husband, I’ll love you unconditionally through thick and thin.”
“Oh I know Albus, I just didn’t want to make you upset too soon, now I’m afraid there’s a lot to be frightned about.”
“Minerva what are you saying?”
“Albus, I… I’m sick, very sick. I went to see a doctor about it two weeks ago, now my results are back.. I know for sure, Albus.. I’m dying. “
Albus was lost for words, not in a good way, not at all. He felt a pain, not a pain like Minervas but a pain like something was broken, a broken heart perhaps.
He then too after the initial shock began to cry with Minerva, he rested his head on her lap still crying for her. She started to slowly rub Albus’ head trying to sooth him. They were both emotional wreaks and weren’t sure what to do.
“Minerva I love you. For all eternity.”
“And I you Albus.”
For the next couple of months Albus searched everywhere for a cure to Minervas Illness, he even resorted to muggle medicine but it was no use, Minervas cancer had gotten too far along and their was nothing that could be done. 20th of June 1995, Minerva McGonagall passed away, leaving Albus a distraught and alone. Albus had constant dreams of her, hoping that he would wake up on morning and see her lying there next to him but alas it would never be again. 30th of June 1997 Albus Dumbedore was murdered by Severus Snape in the astronomy tower.
“Albus..Albus is that you?”
“Tabby??”
“Welcome home Albus”
