I need some sleep
It can't go on like this
I tried counting sheep
But there's one I always miss
Running on fumes to say the least. I gave up eating, sleeping, going on without Albus was just too much. I saw him everywhere I turned, his ghost wouldn't let me be. I sat up in the bed looking at the ceiling, I'm sure I looked terrible, I couldn't recall the last time I sleep but I didn't care. I knew Albus wouldn't be happy with my childish like behaviors but it was his fault!! He promised he would come back, he promised. I felt the tears burning in my emerald green eyes as I tossed the pillow across the room.
Everyone says I'm getting down too low
Everyone says you just gotta let it go
"Minerva, Albus wouldn't want you killing yourself." Poppy said gently touching my arm.
I jerked away, I know she was trying to help, but I was beyond helping, my emotions were getting the best of me and I was beyond past the point of just letting it go.
"I can't just let it go, Poppy." I said raising my voice slightly.
She nodded softly, she didn't add anything else but the concern for me was written all over her face. I just couldn't let it go, it was too soon to just let it go.
"Minerva, just sleep or at least take a potion to." She said softly.
I nodded, even though we both knew that wasn't going to happen.
I need some sleep
Time to put the old horse down
I'm in too deep
And the wheels keep spinning 'round
"I promise Minerva, I'll be back." Albus said for about the firth time that evening.
"Why won't you tell me where you're going. Harry is my student too Albus, I have a right to know." I said walking closer to him trying to hide the tears in my emerald eyes.
He sighed softly before pressing a gentle kiss on my forehead, his way of trying to calm me down.
"I can't risk you coming for us." He said softly.
I just nodded, I wasn't about to fight with him, not when I didn't know the dangers he was facing, I couldn't risk that.
"Come back to me, you promise."
If it wasn't so desperate making sure him and Harry would return I would've seen the look of unceranity in his bright blue eyes that weren't dancing with happiness. I wouldn't seen the nervous gesture he made with his good hand on my back. I would've seen the way he held me like it was the last time. Of course Albus being the noble one he was put on a fake smile and nodded.
"I will. I love you, Tabby." He whispered.
Everyone says I'm getting' down too low
Everyone says you just gotta let it go
You just gotta let it go
I walked into the empty office, Even Fawkes was gone. I don't where but he was no longer in his usual spot beside Albus desk. The new picture on the wall confirmed everything I've been trying to avoid. I choked my tears as I looked up at the photo. I didn't think Albus was listing because he looked asleep but we needed to talk.
"Albus, I should've have pressure you to promise me you were coming back. You know you weren't coming back. Albus, I'm just so lost, Harry is lost, the school is lost." I said as the tears came into my eyes. I blinked them away as I continued what I had to say.
"Who am I gonna play Chess with every Monday night now? Everyone else is far too afraid to play me." I laughed softly at the word's Albus used himself.
"Who's gonna be there for me to finally let my guard down. I can only be so strong, Albus. I don't know how I can anymore." I whispered before sobbing.
He wasn't here, I know he wasn't here, but at least now I felt a little better. Least now he knew the things I couldn't say at the funereal, No I had to keep on my stone facade for the children. The student's deserved that much from me.
I pulled myself together as I got up off the floor looking to Albus sleeping portrait one more time before putting on my stone face and leaving the office.
You just gotta let it go
You just gotta let it go
I didn't see the ghost that followed me back to my quarters. I didn't see the ghost that lingered above my bed with a sad look in his ounce bright blue eyes.
"Oh my Minerva, you finally let me go." He whispered.
I swore I heard his voice for a second, but there was nothing there. It was just my imagination fighting to let him go...
