Disclaimer: I own nothing!! If you want someone to sue go talk to Bill Gates.
Here it is everyone; the sequel. How could I possibly ignore all of those kind threats of bodily harm? I don't think this is as good as my other story, but it's what you guys think that matters. Hope you like it.
Coming Home
Albus continued to stare forward as his nurse fluffed the pillow she had placed behind his head. “There you go professor; she should be here soon. I hear the sunrise is supposed to be especially beautiful today.” Emily didn’t bother to wait for a response but she always hoped. In the seven months since Albus Dumbledore had arrived on her floor she waited to see the twinkle that she remembered from her school days, but it never seemed to come. “Professor McGonagall should be here in a few minutes professor; you know how she hates to be late. I hope you enjoy your visit.” With that she opened the curtains over the window and left him alone. “Oh I do know Ms. Dillworth, I know,” he thought with glee. His expression never changed as his hand flexed and the curtains pulled back even farther. Now all he had to was wait; it had been months, he could wait a few more minutes.
Minerva once again made the familiar trip up to the forth floor of St. Mungo’s. By now no one in the hospital showed any surprise at her arrival, and most of the staff only nodded in recognition as she walked by. Despite it all she still met Emily with a smile as she approached. Today the young woman was engrossed in the latest Witch Weekly and didn’t notice her approach. Minerva just couldn’t help herself. “Ten points from Ravenclaw Ms. Dillworth.”
Emily’s head snapped up, and she was about to protest when she caught herself and blushed. “Very funny professor; is that really any way to start my day?”
Minerva chuckled. “I don’t get to do it often, so I take advantage of every opportunity.” She looked around, “So how was your evening with young Mr. Talbott?”
Emily blushed again and dropped her gaze. “It was wonderful professor; thank you for talking me into it.”
“I had to sit by while he watched you in school it was high time something came of it,” she replied, remembering the awkward girl that sat in the last row of her classroom.
“Well if it does you will be the first to know.” Minerva laughed again before turning and looking at the door. “Go on professor, the sun should be coming up soon; you wouldn’t want to miss it.”
Minerva made her way silently through the large door and shut it with a small click behind her. As with every other morning, Albus was sitting in his oversized chair staring out the open window. The sun had yet to appear, and the stars twinkled brightly in the sky. ‘When will it all be over,’ she wondered to herself as she stepped forward.
Minerva’s steps faltered as a sensation she hadn’t felt for several months started creeping up her spine. It was a warm soothing sort of ripple; it was the feeling of intense magic that had always followed her husband but that had been missing for the last few months. She stepped cautiously into the room and sat gently on the arm of his chair. It was then that she noticed something new. If anyone else had been sitting in her place they would have missed the slow circles he was rubbing into the arm of the chair with his thumb.
She was fighting a losing battle as the hope welled up inside of her. “Albus,” she said quietly. Ever so slowly his head turned and she looked down, tears welling in her eyes as his hand clasped over her smaller one on the arm of his chair.
She watched as he opened his mouth with some effort. “Hello Tabby,” he croaked out. His voice was rough and quiet from disuse, but to Minerva it was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard. A choked sob escaped her lips as her hands came up to trace the lines of his face.
“Albus,” she whispered again, not believing what was happening. He simply nodded and for the first time in many months he slowly stood up from his chair and opened his arms. Minerva was up and wrapping her arms around his waist in the blink of an eye. Relief and joy flooded her senses as she felt his strong arms wrap themselves around her slim frame drawing her ever closer to his.
His warm breath played against her skin as he leaned down to whisper in her ear. “I’m so sorry Tabby; so very sorry.”
Minerva shook her head at the hint of guilt in his voice, and she pulled back from his embrace. “You have nothing to be sorry for Albus. Do you understand me; nothing. I’m the one who owes you an apology. I never knew..”
She never finished as his finger came to rest over her lips, tracing them so very slowly. “How about no apologies than my love? There’s something I’ve wanted to do for awhile now.”
She looked at him with confusion at his mischievous smile. She was taken by surprise as his lips crashed down upon hers in a ferocious kiss. It had been so long, and it only took a moment for the shock to wear off before Minerva responded with equal intensity. He explored her mouth, relearning every contour and Minerva didn’t even bother trying to suppress the moan his ministrations caused.
By the time the need for oxygen drew them apart, Albus’ hand was wrapped firmly in her hair; he had managed to remove the pins without her ever noticing, and Minerva was stroking the spot at the base of his neck. Panting, they stared each other in the eye, communicating everything that words just can’t express. “Take me home Tabby,” Albus whispered, stroking her swollen lips.
Minerva only nodded as she stepped out of his arms. Surprising her once again, Albus closed his eyes for a moment and his hospital gown was replaced by his favorite set of deep purple robes. Wrapping an arm around her waist, they both walked out of his hospital room and into the stairway, leaving a very surprised and happy nurse behind them. It was the first time they missed the sunrise, and they couldn’t have been happier.
