I removed this story from ff.net in a panic because of the news that they were going to remove accounts for copying and pasting song lyrics. So, I decided to post it here, I don't think I did already.
Disclaimer: “Out of Your Shoes” belongs to Lorrie Morgan, or whoever wrote it. Albus and Minerva belong to J.K. Rowling.
A/N: This story is based on the song “Out of Your Shoes.” For those of you who don’t know it, I’m going to be kind enough to include the lyrics at the end.
Out of Your Shoes
Katerina McGonagall waved a bottle of perfume under her nose, “Mmm, Min can I borrow this?”
“Only if you never call me Min again.”
Katerina rolled her eyes at her younger sister as she daubed the perfume on her neck and wrists, then she looked up at Minerva, “You’re not wearing that are you?!”
Minerva looked offended, “And why not?”
Heaving a sigh, Katerina explained, “Oh, I don’t know, it’s only the biggest ball of the year. Of course you should wear your plain everyday robes.” Honestly, didn’t her sister realize how beautiful she was, if only she would try a little. “Here, wear these.”
“But those are your favorite robes,” Minerva protested.
“I know, but they don’t fit me anymore. Go on, wear them tonight, they’ll look perfect on you.”
Minerva sighed and shook her head at her sister before finally complying and putting on the light blue robes. They were a bit more form fitting than she would have liked, but she had to admit she did look good, not that it mattered. Minerva wasn’t looking forward to the Ministry ball in the slightest, but Katerina had insisted they go so here she was getting dressed up for no apparent reason. It wasn’t as if she had anyone to impress.
When they arrived at the ball, the sisters checked their cloaks and proceeded to the dance floor, where Katerina immediately did the first thing she always did at functions like this. She scanned the room for good looking men. Minerva rolled her eyes at her sister again and suppressed a sigh. She already had a good idea how tonight would turn out; she would spend the evening sitting alone at a table wishing she were home with a good book while Katerina danced with every man between the ages of twenty and sixty before eventually going home with one, leaving Minerva to walk home alone. How wrong she was.
They hadn’t been there for two minutes when Katerina elbowed Minerva and hissed, “I think tonight’s your lucky night, Min.”
“Don’t call me Min and what are you talking about,” Minerva hissed back.
Katerina nodded her head in the direction of a very handsome gentleman who hadn’t taken his eyes off Minerva since they first stepped through the door. “I can’t believe your luck. I let you wear my favorite robes and now the best looking man in the room is staring at you like he’s never seen a woman before.”
Minerva just shook her head and moved to get a glass of punch as her sister was swept onto the dance floor. When the next song started, Katerina watched over her partner’s shoulder as the handsome auburn haired man asked her sister to dance. With barely concealed jealousy, she watched them for the rest of the night, thinking about what would happen later. How she wished she could be in her sister’s shoes right now. Usually it was Katerina who attracted all the men, she would flirt her way through the night and find the best looking one in the room to take her home, but tonight she knew it would be Minerva who had that honor. Katerina watched her younger sister dance, watched the man’s blue eyes twinkle and spark with desire as they moved together. She knew what would happen, she could see it as plainly as if she were watching it take place.
This man would buy her sister a drink, champagne probably, he looked like the type, and then they would go for a walk. Eventually, he would suggest they retire and ask hopefully if she would accompany him home. Katerina knew the script, it was always the same, the only variations being the drink offered and the words used to ask her home. She could see this man, taking her sister home and closing the door, in her mind she could see her favorite robes falling to the floor as he turned out the lights. Katerina wished she were in her sister’s shoes, because she’d like to be out of her shoes later that night. She wanted to be the one turning this man on, if only she could get under her sister’s skin and be the one to lie with him in the dark.
She continued to watch, as her predictions came true. Minerva sat at a table and drank champagne with the handsome auburn haired, blue eyed stranger. Katerina watched as her sister uncharacteristically threw her head back and laughed a rare and true laugh as the man talked, watched how her eyes lit up and she blushed at what were probably compliments. Somehow, she just knew that Minerva was hearing everything from this man that she wanted to be. Then she watched them leave and once again the image played in her mind of a door closing, the lights dimming, and her favorite robes sliding to the floor. Jealous of her younger sister for the first time in her life, Katerina vowed never again to lend Minerva her clothes as she went home alone that night.

Out of Your Shoes performed by Lorrie Morgan
You borrowed my favorite dress
I borrowed your best perfume
We’re looking good I guess
We’ve turned every head in the room
But the best thing I’ve ever seen
Is lookin’ at you
And girl I’d give anything
To be in your shoes
‘Cause I’d love to be
Out of your shoes tonight
To be the one turnin’ him on
When he turns out the light
Under your skin
Lyin’ with him
When he holds you tight
I’d love to be out of your shoes tonight
He’ll buy you some fine champagne
Say things I’d love to hear
My loss will be your gain
And the rest of the picture is clear
I see him takin’ you home
And closin’ the door
And I see my favorite dress
Fall to the floor
Oh I’d love to be
Out of your shoes tonight
To be the one turnin’ him on
When he turns out the light
Under your skin
Lyin’ with him
When he holds you tight
I’d love to be out of your shoes tonight
Oh I’d love to be out of your shoes tonight
