Chapter 8
It was nearly midnight and Minerva was padding along the dark empty corridor. She jumped up on to one of the window sills and looked out into the forbidden forest. It looked beautiful in the moonlight and didn't look one bit as scary as it was.
Minerva had successfully managed to keep her distance from her transfiguration professor and it had been two days since she had ran from him. She had avoided him at every cost, even pulling Poppy into a store cupboard when she had seen him along the corridor. She sighed to herself and thought sadly, only a two weeks left till she graduated and she wouldn't see him again.
She heard some familiar footsteps coming along the corridor, and she squeezed herself into the corner hoping that she wouldn't be found.
"Tabby!" he said softly "hello there little one."
Minerva moved around and looked down at him, he held his arms out to her and her feline instincts made her jump into them. He cradled her in his arms and carried her along the corridor. They ended up in his rooms and there was a bowl of cream waiting for her as well as his usual mug of hot chocolate.
"How are you Tabby?" he asked.
"Meaow!" she replied.
He chuckled and ran his long fingers through her coat while sipping his hot chocolate.
"You know Tabby sometimes I think that you can understand me." he admitted.
Minerva curled up on the couch and rested her head on his lap.
"I'm glad I found you." he said breaking the silence "I thought you were avoiding me as well."
Minerva lifted her head up from his lap and looked at him with curiosity.
"Remember I mentioned that I was in love!" continued Albus, his blue eyes weren't twinkling as bright now. "Well I think she has been avoiding me. I'm not sure what I've done. She is so clever Tabby, but I think she is afraid of showing her potential. Oh she is a student Tabby! I shouldn't feel like this, it's wrong."
Minerva looked at him with shock and the shock must have showed in her eyes because Albus noticed.
"Have I shocked you?" he said with a smile "I have shocked myself, but if you saw her you would understand how I have lost my heart to her. Can you find her for me Tabby?”
Minerva's ears flickered slightly and she shifted uncomfortably beside him.
"She is a seventh year Gryffindor tabby and her name is Minerva." he told the tabby cat.
Had she just heard him right or had her ears been deceiving her? Did he say that he was in love with her, Minerva could feel her heart in her throat.
She bit herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming. Albus was watching the silver and black tabby cat with interest, he was sure that wasn't usual cat behaviour.
It was when she caught his eye, she came to her decision. She used every ounce of Gryffindor courage and transformed right in front of him.
"M-Minerva!" he stammered in shock "you've managed it, I knew you had it in you."
He looked at her with pride shinning in his eyes, he reached for her hands and squeezed them gently.
"Professor," said Minerva softly "did I hear you correctly?"
"Of course Minerva," replied Albus "I always knew you had it in you."
"I didn't mean that!" she said quietly, not really sure of herself "what you said before that about loving me!"
"Oh Minerva!" he answered quickly "I have completely overstepped the mark. I am so sorry, you must think terribly of me. I never meant for you to find out."
She silenced him by placing a finger on his lips.
"You don't have to be sorry," she told him "I was avoiding you because I thought you loved someone else and I was jealous."
"I was talking about you!" he said softly.
"Well I know that now but I didn't at the time." she replied "When I was with you I couldn’t clear my mind so I couldn't transform."
"So I've been pouring my heart out to you all along." said Albus with a smile.
"I'm so sorry that I deceived you Albus." she told him "Oh I can call you that can't I?"
"I think you can," he said after some thought "after all we have admitted that we have feelings for each other."
"What now?" she asked.
She looked at him, searching for an answer to her question. She smiled softly as he cradled her face between his hands and lent forward, he brushed his lips against hers softly. Minerva lent forward and deepened the kiss. She felt one hand slip away from her face and encircle her waist and pull her closer to him.
They broke the kiss and caught their breath. Albus kissed her lightly on the nose, her chin, her cheeks and her forehead before catching her lips again with his own.
"This will work out my love." he whispered once the kiss ended "we just have to wait till you finish and then I will shout it from the highest tower that I love you!"
"You don't have to shout it Albus," she replied with a smile "as long as I know it, I'm happy."
"Just two weeks to go!" he added, kissing her gently on the lips.
"I had better get going Albus," said Minerva, she didn't want to go "Poppy will be wondering where I am."
"I love you!" he told her.
She watched as he reached into his robes and pulled out a silver necklace with a small emerald hanging from it. She smiled softly as he placed it around her neck and planted a soft kiss on her neck.
"Two weeks darling!”
Minerva left his rooms five minutes later with a spring in her step, two weeks wasn't that long really and she knew that he loved her and he knew that she loved him. Minerva McGonagall was happy as was Albus Dumbledore, both feel asleep that night with contented smiles, they had the future to look forward too.
