Minerva moved her leg and brushed it against Albus’. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed he glanced at her before reaching for his cup of tea. She kept her smile hidden and her eyes lowered as she picked up her own cup of Earl Grey.
Both were in dire need of a warm cup of tea and a few quiet moments. Last night had been the night of the bachelor’s party for Aberforth and the women had decided to have the bridal shower at the same time.
As best man, it was Albus’ responsibility to provide the entertainment and he had promised her that there would not be any strippers or exotic dancers of any type at the party. Minerva wasn’t too worried that Albus’ head would be turned, after all many men would be there and Albus was hardly in the first bloom of youth. It was simply their relationship was only a few weeks old and so many women were trying to get him in their clutches that she worried one might succeed.
Although Minerva was certain that Albus was a man of his word, she was familiar with most of the men that would be in attendance and knew that many of them were unattached as well.
Minerva and a few of the women had apparated to Albus’ flat in Hogsmeade and peeked through the windows to find two witches scantily clad and dancing in front of a group of wide-eyed wizards. Minerva noticed the remaining scraps of material were charmed to remain in place but she narrowed her eyes all the same. The women were masked but she wasn’t certain they would remain that way.
One wore a sheer pink number but it was the witch in red that made Minerva angry. She was dancing directly in front of Albus and every time she leaned over, Albus had to avert his eyes.
The wench was making a play for the man she loved! The other men seemed to notice and ignored the witch in red and paid attention to the other woman.
Minerva had fumed and the other women standing outside shot her sympathetic looks. They left a few minutes later as the air was growing cooler and they had their own shower to attend.
Minerva had tossed all night long imaging Albus and the woman in red. It was definitely a thin fabric and although she couldn’t see the woman from the front, Minerva was certain the material had been fairly sheer. She knew it was unlikely Albus would have stood and left the room but she wished he had.
She refreshed her cup and took a biscuit. She nibbled daintily and watched Albus from the corner of her eye. He seemed uncomfortable and it was time to make him feel worse.
“I won’t ask how the party was last night but I’m glad it was decided to do it a week early. I can imagine how awful the wedding pictures would have appeared.”
Albus sat his cup down and poured another cup without looking at her.
“I tried to limit the drinking but many of the men were away from the calm heads of their wives and the others egged them on.”
“Let me get a fresh pot, Albus,” remarked Minerva as she rose. It didn’t take much acting to trip over the coffee table and end up sprawled on the floor. Minerva groaned and Albus was beside her in a flash.
She raised her robe to reveal a large bruise on her thigh. She had gotten it that very morning in much the same manner and found it would suit her needs perfectly.
Albus took out his wand and summoned ice. He wrapped a few cubes in his handkerchief and placed it on her bruised leg.
“Could you help me to the couch?”
Albus immediately lifted her in his arms and blushed as his arms brushed against her bare legs. Minerva kept her robes raised and he was hard pressed not to look down. He settled her on the couch and averted his eyes. She was lifting her leg and flexing it and he could see her robes edging higher.
He quickly left the room and returned with a filled teapot. He poured two more cups and handed her one. He watched as she took a sip and leaned over to put the cup on the coffee table. A flash of red caught his eye and he looked closer. The lace edge of her knickers looked just like the red that the woman wore last night.
“Albus, would you be a dear and apply some salve to my leg?”
Albus left the room and returned with a salve to help ease the pain. Minerva’s robes were lower now and only one thigh was exposed to his view. He took a small amount and touched the area lightly. Her skin was warm to his touch and he applied the salve in short circular movements.
“Mmmm, it’s working already,” commented Minerva as she lifted her robe slightly higher.
Albus glimpsed a bit of red and he looked at Minerva.
“See something you like?” she asked with a mischievous smile.
“I thought I saw something,” began Albus. “I’m sure I’m wrong.”
Minerva tilted her head and put on an innocent expression. “You thought you saw something you liked?”
Albus shook his head. “Minerva, are you wearing red beneath your robes?”
Minerva let out a chuckle. “Oh Albus, there are other ways of asking what type of underwear I’m wearing.”
“No, I don’t want to know that,” he began but stopped at her raised eyebrows. “I mean, I want to know but I want to know if you have…” he stopped for good this time.
“Let me satisfy your curiosity.” With a quick motion her robes rose higher and sheer red knickers were evident. “Would you like to see more?” Her eyes teased him but his were troubled.
“Minerva, you were at the shower last night, correct?”
“Of course, I was. We had a lovely time,” she answered promptly. “What is the matter?”
“You…she …”
“Albus?”
He stood and knelt before her. “There were women there last night. Strippers. I didn’t invite them but someone else did.” His confession brought a smile to her lips. He looked so remorseful.
“I know Albus, a woman in pink,” she confessed as she unbuttoned her top button, “…and a woman in red.” Another button popped loose. Albus could see the top edge of a red bra.
His eyes filled with horror. “It wasn’t you? It couldn’t have been!”
Minerva’s eyebrow arched. “Are you saying those women had something I don’t?”
“No, no, I mean…I have dreamed of you and they could never compare to you. I didn’t even want them there.” His denial was so profuse that Minerva leaned over and kissed the tip of his nose.
“I want to be the only lady in red in your life,” whispered Minerva.
“You are, my dear, you are.” He answered softly.
He leaned closer and kissed her gently on the lips. “Why don’t I carry you to bed and explain everything wrong about those women.”
“This better take some time, Albus. I don’t want there to be many similarities.”
“I think with sufficient time, I can point out every quality you possess that surpasses theirs.
He didn’t wait for another word but carried her into his bedroom and shut the door with a pronounced slam.
