"More tea, my dear?" Albus said as if he hadn't heard her. She stood there dumbfounded until she noticed the side of his lips curling into a smile. How he loved to tease his strict, practical Deputy. He had, unfortunately, picked the worst possible moment to do so. He hadn't noticed her tears.

"No, I don't want more tea, Albus," Minerva said as the angry tears bathed her cheeks. "I don't want tea, or eggs, or chocolate. I just want you to tell me what happened last night. I want to know what I need to apologize for." Albus saw the pain and fear in her beautiful eyes.

He gently took her hand as he stood. He motioned to the sofa where this whole thing began. "I was wrong to tease you. Let's talk about this and then maybe we can have a breakfast that we'll both enjoy." He sat behind her with both of her hands in his. "I should start by saying that nothing that happened was anything to be ashamed of. You fell asleep here and I found you early this morning. I was so wrapped up in those letters that I hadn't noticed the time. You were shivering so I carried you to bed. You didn't seem to want to be alone, so..."

"What do you mean I didn't want to be alone?" Minerva set her fierce gaze on Albus. "I go to bed alone all the time and I don't have any problems with it. I was sleeping alone on the sofa and I wasn't miserable."

Albus moved he hand to her shoulder. "Minerva, it's not what you think. You were cold and I must have felt nice and warm because you stayed close."

Minerva gave a frustrated sigh. "Since I was so cold, why did you put me in something so... small to sleep in. It's not exactly warm. It's not exactly without a certain appeal either."

"About that. I didn't think you'd be comfortable sleeping in those stiff, heavy robes. I don't know what you usually sleep in, so I used my own judgment." He couldn't have known, but Albus was saying everything Minerva wanted to hear. She knew that he wouldn't lie to her about any of this. He was too much of a gentleman to lie about these things. She decided to use her courage and see if there was anything more behind Albus' earlier flirtations. Albus saw a sly smile slip across her lips and her eyes take on a look which he found rather seductive.

"What criteria were you judging me on?" She could see Albus was lost, so she tried another tactic. "Do you like what you see?" She sat attentively waiting for his answer as Albus took his time evaluating her appearance.

"You're a beautiful woman and your outfit has very little to do with that, but may I ask why you're suddenly smiling at me like that." Albus really had no idea what had caused this drastic change in Minerva's mood. He was hoping that she might have some feelings for him as well. He had decided to tell her how he felt as soon as he woke up that morning, but it would be nice not to be rejected before he'd finished eating his breakfast.

"Because you're so,..."Minerva searched for a word that wouldn't give away her feelings. "So sweet, and kind. I was worried that I may have spoiled the wonderful thing we have." When she looked at him, her resolve to keep her feelings to herself vanished. "Albus, I'm sorry, but I think I've fallen for you."

"What?" Albus couldn't believe his ears.

"I've fallen in love with you. Be gentle with me, please, I don't handle rejection as well as I should by now." She had cast her gaze to the floor and waited for the polite refusal that was no doubt on its way. She had not prepared at all for being taken into Albus' arms as he passionately kissed her.

When they finally found time to breathe, Albus held Minerva close. She looked at him lovingly. "I love you, my dear, and I don't think I'll ever let you go." She snuggled into him happily - she could stay there with him forever given the chance. Albus suddenly sat up, pulling Minerva up with him. "Shall we finish breakfast, my dear?"

Minerva had to laugh - he would never change and that gave her a wonderfully safe feeling. A mischievous grin told Albus she was planning something. "I think we ought to. I'm sure we'll need our strength later on." She gave him a playful kiss as they walked back to the table.

I really enjoyed your piece; but... the last part was a little too rushed imho: Minerva just switched from being angry to declaring love without much in between?

I am so glad I didn't have to wait for that awful cliffhanger to be finished...I nearly died when I came to it. Thanks for posting this...it is brilliant...but I agree with micha...the last part was rushed...so sorry to complain =)
