Albus looked up from his mountains of paperwork and was surprised to see the dawn beginning to creep across the horizon. Had he really stayed up all night again? He instantly became tired since now he was aware of all the sleep he had missed. Well, at least he was almost finished writing the Hogwarts letters for this year. With any luck, they'd be finished by Monday. Minerva would see to that. She always kept him on task, except when he was admiring her. Of course that was only done in a friendly manner. He never considered her any more than that.
She was attractive, very attractive, and that fact had not been lost on him. He could get lost in her green eyes. Her quick, dry wit never ceased to delight him. She was boundless intelligence combined with physical perfection which age had not spoiled. In fact, since she'd gotten older, she spent more time with him as opposed to the various gentlemen who wanted her attention. She insisted she was "too old for such foolishness." He did not agree with her assessment of things, but he wasn't about to tell her that and lose her to someone who would never be worthy of her. He hadn't been overly bothered by her relationships in the past, but he had become dependent on her over the years and he hated change. Hmmm... perhaps he should re-examine his feelings for his Deputy.
Right now he needed sleep. As he stood, Albus noticed something on the couch in his study. He recognized the robes immediately and smiled. She'd stayed with him all night. "Oh Minerva, my dear, what would I do without you?" The first rays of morning light were dancing through her long black hair and kissing her cheeks with a rosy glow. He spent a few moments just watching her, afraid that, if he touched her, his dream would end and he would wake up alone. "That shouldn't worry me, I always wake up alone. I always fall asleep alone." Albus was stunned by his own thoughts. Was he, on some subconscious level, thinking of sleeping with his friend and loyal colleague? Minerva's shivering took his mind off of these disturbing revelations. She always seemed to be cold and sleeping under an open window was not a help. "Let's get you to bed, my dear," Albus whispered as he scooped Minerva into his arms. Fawkes sang a soothing melody as he and Albus brought Minerva to the bedroom.
After placing her on the bed, Albus looked at her attire with a critical eye. All of that stiff material couldn't be comfortable to sleep in. Fawkes pecked insistently at him. "OK, OK. I'll change her into something more comfortable." Albus said with hesitation. Bad choice of words, for when he opened his eyes, Minerva lay on his bed in just a red bra and underwear set. He tried again and got a sheer black lace baby-doll. After a few more failed attempts, she finally ended up in a in a knee-length camisole style rose and black nightie. Albus was tired, but pleased with his work. She wasn't as covered as she'd probably like to be, but at least he couldn't see through this one or under the skirt of it.
"She looks so peaceful, Fawkes, so happy. I hope I can always keep her this happy." Fawkes cocked his head and gave Albus a knowing look. "Oh leave me alone you overgrown parakeet, your imagination is running wild. You know we're only friends." Fawkes whistled his disbelief and motioned to the bed. In her sleep, Minerva had taken Albus' hand. "Well, I'd better get some sleep," he said to Fawkes as he stood to leave.
"No. Please no," Minerva pleaded in her sleep and pulled his hand to her chest.
Albus sat back down on the bed. He had no choice but to share his bed with this lovely woman for whom he had just discovered he had some very interesting feelings. He managed to pull his hand from hers and started to leave. She had whimpered a little and he felt guilty for that, but he wasn't comfortable sleeping with her so close to him. Fawkes had other ideas. He pushed Albus back down. Albus was exhausted and the bed felt like a piece of heaven. He tried to keep his distance, but she rolled into his body and snuggled into him. "She's just cold, you scheming parrot." Albus growled, but he couldn't remain too angry with such a pretty woman in his arms. "I'll be in trouble for this," he muttered and wrapped Minerva in a romantic embrace. Fawkes settled in on the headboard and began to sing a lullaby. "Beautiful Dreamer, how appropriate,"Albus smiled as he kissed his beautiful dreamer good night.

Minerva hadn't been woken up in this matter in a very long time. She was aware that she was being held by a man and that she was in a bed that was not her own. Presumably the bed was his. She quickly replay her memories of the night before to figure out how she ended up in this unusual position. Maybe it wasn't an unusual position for everyone, but for the sixty-one year-old Minerva McGonagall, this was most abnormal indeed. This couldn't be happening. She was too old for this foolishness. What a time to start behaving like a hormonally charged seventh year! The last thing she she remembered watching Albus working on this years acceptance letters. He was so handsome when he was working. If she were being honest with herself, she'd admit that she found him attractive no matter whether he was working or talking with a student, playing chess or eating Sherbet Lemons. He was everything she'd ever wanted, but she could never bring herself to pursue him romantically. She knew he would never accept her. She'd never be good enough for him.
However, there had been some interesting moments between them. They always shared at least one dance at every ball and party. He always seemed to notice even the smallest change in her appearance and was quick to compliment her on any new necklace or shade of lipstick. Occasionally, he'd hold her hand as they walked together. He'd once grabbed her bottom and pulled her into his arms to keep her from sitting in a super glue potion which had "accidentally" spilled onto her chair in the teachers' lounge. He'd gallantly drape his cloak over her and put his arm around her waist as they walked back from Hogsmead on exceptionally cold winter evenings. On one occasion, she and Albus had both slipped on ice and fallen together. His hand had landed on her breast and remained there while he got his bearings. The strange thing was that it had not stayed still. He seemed to caress her as they lay together. She hadn't been able to look him in the eye for days without blushing which made him laugh. But the most extreme by far was the quidditch final last year. After Gryffindor had won their final match of the season, Minerva had wrapped her arms around Albus. In the elation of the moment, he'd given her quite a kiss on the lips. The staff had teased her about it for weeks there after. Certainly these events, when looked at collectively, painted a very flirtatious picture of the two, but all of this had occurred over decades. They were really just friends. Apparently, her friend had shared a bed with her.
Her analysis of the situation stopped abruptly as she felt Albus' hand on the back of her thigh. His hand moved slowly upward, lifting her nightgown as it went. Her eyes opened wide and a soft whimper of shock and nervousness escaped her lips as the hand reached the point where her hip met her bottom. He moved his hand from her thigh and placed it back on her back. He was still asleep. He looked happy. He seemed to enjoy holding her. Her heart leaped at the thought. She gathered her courage and placed a gentle kiss on his lips, then nestled her head comfortably against his chest. "Just a few more minutes, then we'll get up," she murmured as she drifted back to sleep in the arms of the man she loved. Fawkes began to serenade the two once more.

Albus opened his eyes once he felt Minerva settle back into his arms. He had been awake almost as long as she had been. He had only realized she was awake when he heard her reaction to his hand doing a little exploring. Now that she was asleep, perhaps he'd have some time to think about what he actually felt for her. Obviously it was something more than friendship, but was it really love or just a deep seated desire to see her naked and do things with her which are much easier to accomplish when one is naked? "Perhaps a mixture of the two?" he mumbled as he enjoyed the view down the front of her nightgown. He noticed a point on her neck which looked so tempting he couldn't resist. He gently place a feather-light kiss just above the left side of her collarbone.
"Oh my! I didn't realize we had company and .... Albus, is that Ms. McGonagall?" Armando Dippit's portrait covered his eyes as he stood in the middle of a reproduction of Van Gogh's "Starry Night."
"Armando!" Albus growled pulling the blankets up further around him and inadvertently uncovering Minerva. "I thought we had discussed my feelings concerning your unannounced entries into my private quarters. Minerva spent a long night here working and fell asleep on the sofa in my study. I just wanted to make her more comfortable." Just then the tip of his beard fell into the narrow valley between her breasts and she moaned, gave a flirtatious giggle and leaned into him.
Armando looked critically at the alterations Albus had made to Minerva's attire. "Did she spend her evening with you dressed like that? I understand that you're attracted to her, but Albus, she's your employee. I have never known you to be an unethical man. Please, examine your actions and make your decision accordingly. Also, the reason for my unannouced visit - you two missed breakfast." With that, Armando disappeared with a faint 'pop'.
Albus felt like a first years who'd been sent to the headmaster's office. Were these new-found feelings of his really unethical? She didn't seem to be resisting his advances if that made any difference. In fact Minerva seemed quite happy there in his bed with him. She did not seem angry or embarrassed when she thought he was asleep. She'd even kissed him. The only thing to do was talk to her. To do that he had to wake her, but how?
As he began to weigh his options, Albus recognized the tune being provided by Fawkes. It was a Tchaikovsky piece. A waltz. Sleeping Beauty. Albus smiled as he lowered his lips to meet those of his sleeping Minerva.

Okay, why is it always Armando that is sent to do the dirtywork and interrupt my fluffiness? It's hardly fair that I am directly all of my anger at him!
I loved his thoughts. I can't wait to hear this discussion. lol

In answer to your question Armando is most likely the only former Head of Hogwarts that would have known both Albus and Minerva. Also, he would remember Minerva more as a student than as a grown woman and may therefore find a relationship between the two more unsettling. I believe that the fact that there is an inter-staff relationship would bother most of the former Heads of the school. Older moral sensiblities, ect...
Sorry, osusprinks.

A warm, loving, secure feeling washed over Minerva as she began to wake. That was replaced with shock as she began to realize what was happening. Albus, her employer and friend, was kissing her rather passionately. Her yell was stifled by his lips, but he quickly ended the kiss and loosen but did not release his embrace. He smiled warmly at her as if he had done nothing unusual. "Good morning, my dear. Did you sleep well?" he said cheerfully.
"Albus Dumbledore, explain yourself at once." She was trying desperately to work her way out of his arms, but he wouldn't have it. "Let me go!" she hissed.
"I will not let you go," he answered calmly "because if I do, you'll run off to your chambers and hide. We need to discuss a few of this morning's events. As for the kiss; that was not my fault. It was Fawkes' idea." Minerva gave an unconvinced look, but said nothing so Albus continued. "We slept through breakfast and I didn't know how to wake you. Then Fawkes began to whistle the waltz from Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty". I figured he either thought I should kiss you or pick you up and dance around the room with you."
"You wouldn't dare," Minerva muttered coldly.
"Oh, wouldn't I?" And with surprising ease, he took Minerva in his arms and began to waltz around the bedroom amid Fawkes' renewed vocalizing and shouts of protest from Minerva.
"Albus, at least get away from your dressing table. You're getting a wonderful view straight up my... what have you done to my robes! Oh, now you're looking on purpose. Albus stop that." Albus had stopped dance and was standing parallel to the mirror and was making it obvious that he was staring up her night gown. He had begun to pull up said night gown while Minerva tried to hold it close to her to keep his eyes and hands at bay. "What's gotten into you?"
"Something I've ignored for far too long" he replied as he lowered Minerva gently to her feet. There was something clouding the usual twinkle in his eye. For the first time, Minerva couldn't read Albus' expression. Nervously she she slowly backed into the dressing table; Albus moving along with her. He stood in front of her so close her face was only a few inches from his chest.
"Minerva, my dear, I..."

Minerva's heart was pounding fast and her face was flushed. "Yes, Albus," she murmured barely able to contain her expectation.
"...was wondering if you'd like some breakfast?" Albus said with a smile.
"Breakfast?" she said with a blank stare. Minerva's heart seemed ready to fall from her chest. She managed to rally enough to maintain her signature sarcasm. "That's what had you going - breakfast?" she said with an indignant sort of snort. "Honestly."
"A man can go a bit daft when he's hungry." Albus gave her a grin before walking into study with Fawkes in tow. Minerva had no choice but to go after him. Albus called for a house elf and Bobkin, his favorite, appeared in an instant. In a matter of minutes a delicious meal was on the table and Minerva and Albus sat down to eat in silence.
As she pushed the food around on her plate, Minerva allowed her anger to bubble and seethe. That infuriatingly ridiculous man! Breakfast, indeed. They had shared a bed;this could neither be denied or ignored. But they were also adults and, as such, ought to be able to discuss this as opposed to silently wishing it away. The last thing she remembered before waking in his bed was sitting on the sofa, so Albus could at least manage to tell her how she came to be sleeping with him. Yes, Albus had some explaining to do, but she could big the bigger person and start the conversation. "Albus," she said gently.
No response. Mr. Dumbledore was thoroughly engrossed in his oatmeal a that moment.
"Albus." Minerva made a soft but more forceful second attempt.
Nothing.
How could she ever have expected him to look up from magically creating chocolate chips to dump into his oatmeal to have an adult conversation with her. Why waste time repairing a friendship when there was chocolate to be had. Let Minerva hurt, she'll be fine. She lives for this type of nonsense. These were the thoughts fueling the fire of Minerva McGonagall's rage. She leaped up and slammed her hands on the table.
"Speak to me, you bastard!" she yelled, tears streaming down her face.
So much for being the bigger person.
