A/N:: No surprise to me, this is another, "Where did that come from?!" fic slightly inspired by a song. I heard a bit of it on the radio in my car today and was instantly inspired. It's called "Say Yes" by Dusty Drake.
FanFic 100 Challenge #:: 073- Light
Albus sat anxiously in his favorite chair as he awaited Minerva's arrival, reminiscing to the time he had done the same many years ago when he had offered her the position of Deputy Headmistress. He had known instantly that no one else was as highly qualified and deserving as she. A faint grin played at Albus's lips at the memory that seemed to be only yesterday, yet equally, in some ways, it had seemed to occur an eternity ago.
Albus's hand shook as he took a small black box from his pocket and instinctively opened it, turning it different ways to allow the beautiful diamond ring within to sparkle majestically. He had not exactly planned the perfect way to present this to her, but he felt he could wait no longer. Suddenly, a knock- her knock, which Albus had recognized immediately- sounded at his office door. He cleared his throat nervously.
"Come in, Minerva."
She entered and smiled briefly at her best friend as she took her seat before him.
"You wanted to see me?"
"I did, my dear," Albus said with a nod, finding that he was, as he feared, struggling with his words. "I have something very important to ask of you."
Minerva inclined her head to him to encourage him to go on, as she began to sense his nervousness. Albus took a deep breath.
"How would you like to be in my wedding?" he asked, his eyes now beginning to regain their characteristic twinkle.
Minerva's mouth dropped open slightly, and she felt her heart sink from its proper place in her chest. He was getting married? Why hadn't she known about this sooner? Who was the lucky woman? And, most importantly, how could he? She was in love with him, after all, a tiny voice within her whispered. Tears began to well up in her eyes.
Albus stood and moved in front of her, revealing the box and the diamond engagement ring. Why was he showing her this? Was he trying to break her heart?
And why on earth was he now knelt down before her?
"All you have to do is say yes, Minerva," Albus whispered into her ear as he smoothed her cheek with his hand.
Minerva looked at him with bewilderment. Nothing in her her mind was registering correctly. Was she dreaming?
"You're asking me to m-marry you?" she stuttered breathlessly.
Albus chuckled as he kissed her softly on the lips.
"Of course."
The tears began to flow forth freely now down Minerva's cheeks. Albus placed the ring onto her finger and kissed her hand tenderly as Minerva pulled him tightly into her arms.
"Yes, Albus. I'd love to marry you."
THE END
A/N:: I know this goes kinda quickly. Sorry about that!
