FanFic 100 Challenge #:: 044- Circle
Minerva entered Albus's office confidently, clutching the newest edition of the Evening Prophet tightly in her hand. Her demeanor was just as stern as always, but as Albus noticed, the corners of her mouth looked softer than they usually did at this time of day, as if Minerva was willing and prepared to smile.
"I don't suppose you've read the headlines in the paper yet?" she asked, waving the Evening Prophet briefly before Albus's face.
"No, not yet," Albus said carefully, curious as to what could possibly have caused his wife to react this way.
Minerva dropped the paper onto the desk in front of him and pointed to a recent picture of Albus and herself dancing together at the Yule Ball. The bold headline above the picture simply read: DUMBLEDORE'S HEARTACHES. The caption below the picture said: WILL HIS DARLING DEPUTY BE A LOVER OR A LEAVER? by Rita Skeeter.
Albus's eyes widened.
"Oh, listen to this," Minerva laughed, beginning to read aloud from the paper.
"Albus Dumbledore may indeed be Order of Merlin, First Class and the Headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but it seems he has never been quite as successful in his attempts of developing romantic relationships. Perhaps it is his supposed 'genius' that isolates him from the rest of the Wizarding world, or perhaps he is simply not as glorious as he is cracked up to be. One woman in particular, however, continues to cling on to Dumbledore's famous image: Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, who has danced circles around Dumbledore for years. (Might we add, seeing Dumbledore's obvious point of view, that there is little doubt why she was offered and has maintained the job in the first place...) Does this mean Albus Dumbledore has finally found himself a match worthy of the man so many naive witches and wizards believe him to be? A secret inside source on the affair says, 'No! Not everyone falls in love with someone else..' (Continued on pg. 4)"
Minerva rolled her eyes as she muttered a spell causing the entire paper to burn to ashes upon Albus's desk.
"Not everyone falls in love with someone else," Albus repeated, still watching the pile of ash on his desk.
Albus's eyes met the new smirk upon Minerva's face before she kissed him softly on the lips and leaned over to whisper in his ear.
"Yes, but some people do."
THE END
A/N:: The "No! Not everyone falls in love with someone else.." quote is obviously JK's from the Bloomsbury live chat.
