FanFic 100 Challenge #:: 008- Weeks
Albus held a small black seed up to his face and squinted fiercely at it as if trying to make it suddenly burst into flames.
“Minerva?”
“Yes, dear?”
“Do you really think that if you swallow a watermelon seed, a watermelon will grow in your stomach?”
“Of course not! Where on earth did you hear such a thing?”
Albus shrugged.
“I heard two First Years arguing about it over dinner one evening.”
“That’s absurd,” Minerva replied with a disdainful sniff.
“Still, I’d like to try it…”
Albus stared at the watermelon seed for another moment as if trying to decide something. Quickly, then, he popped the tiny seed in his mouth and swallowed it unceremoniously.
“Albus, don’t!”
“What’s wrong, Minerva? I thought you didn’t believe it.”
“I don’t!” she exclaimed, looking somewhat worried and slightly disgusted. “It’s just-“
“Wouldn’t it be nice to grow a watermelon?” he asked, patting his stomach. “I could get Pomona to give me some potions to help it grow, perhaps, and in a few weeks, I would have a watermelon.”
“Yes, Albus, and have you considered how you will have to get the watermelon out of your stomach.”
“…Oh…”
“’Oh,’ indeed! You should really think of these things before you start swallowing what you know nothing about!”
Albus’s face blanched.
“I don’t feel very well, Minerva. Will you come with me to see Poppy?”
Minerva laughed.
“Of course. I want to be there when she says, ‘Congratulations, you’re having a watermelon!’”
“It’s not funny, you know.”
“Oh, yes it is,” she snorted.
“Minerva?”
“Yes, Albus?”
“Will you hold my hand?”
“Why? So that if your stomach explodes, I explode with it?”
“No,” he pouted. “Because I like holding your hand.”
“Oh, Albus, you’re such a baby!”
