*In your arms I can still feel the way you
want me when you hold me
I can still hear the words you whispered
when you told me
I can stay right here forever in your arms*
Minerva thought longingly of her husband, Albus Dumbledore, who had been forced to leave Hogwarts by that awful woman, Dolores Umbridge. How happy she had been when he first told her he loved her! Oh, Albus...
*And there ain't no way
I'm lettin' you go now
And there ain't no way
and there ain't not how
I'll never see that day...*
No, she would never give in. Umbridge might try to break Minerva's heart by removing Albus, but Minerva would never give in! And Albus would never give in either, as evidenced by a flash of fire, a golden phoenix feather, and a note.
'Tabby, be strong for me. I love you. I will be in our usual meeting place after dark. Always, Albus.'
*Chorus:
'Cause I'm keeping you
forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
morning to your sweet face always*
That night, there was still no sign of Albus, and Minerva went to bed, downhearted. For the first time in her life, Albus Dumbledore had let her down. Or so she thought. The minute she got in bed, Albus popped in, holding fast to Fawkes' tail. Minerva almost cried out in surprise, but Albus put his hand over her mouth. "Shh, Tabby. Remember, Dolores might hear you!" Minerva nodded, and the two cuddled close in Minerva's bed all night.
*Mmmm, baby
In your heart I can still hear
a beat for every time you kiss me
And when we're apart,
I know how much you miss me
I can feel your love for me in your heart*
When morning came, Albus had to leave. But before he did, he kissed Minerva passionately.
"Oh, my Tabby. My Lioness. I'm sorry I have to go..."
"I know, Albus. I know. I miss you every day." She gave him one last embrace, and he was gone in a flash of phoenix flame.
*And there ain't no way
I'm lettin' you go now
And there ain't now way
and there ain't no how
I'll never see that day...*
Night after night, Albus returned. One night, he found Minerva's bed empty. There were screams from outside, and he watched out the window as four jets of light hit Minerva squarely in the chest. He felt like his heart had been ripped out, and in a way, it had.
*Repeat Chorus:
'Cause I'm keeping you
forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
morning to your sweet face always*
Nightly Albus went to St. Mungo's to check on his Tabby. He spent every night, all night, with her. He was afraid for her life and could hardly be persuaded to leave her side. But the night-shift Healers were more easily persuaded to let him stay. Some of the daytime Healers were on Fudge's side, and he knew better than to expose himself to Fudge's mercy. So he had to leave.
(I wanna wake up every morning)
*In your eyes (I can still see
the look of the one) I can still see
the look of the one who really loves me
(I can still feel the way that you want)
The one who wouldn't put anything
else in the world above me
(I can still see love for me) I can
still see love for me in your eyes
(I still see the love)*
Minerva opened her eyes one night to find Albus by her side.
"Albus! Why..."
"Dolores Umbridge is gone, Minerva. Miss Granger and Mr. Potter led her into the Forbidden Forest, where she had a rather...nasty...encounter with the Centaurs, and I felt obliged to make sure she was not killed."
"You're so *noble*, Albus. She kicked you out, and Stunned me..." Minerva began to cry.
"Shh...it's all right, Tabby, it's all right, she won't be teaching at Hogwarts any longer." Albus held Minerva close and kissed her. Then Minerva stared at Albus.
"What is it, Tabby?"
"That isn't all, is it? Something else happened, didn't it?"
"Are you sure you aren't a Legilemens, my dear?" he attempted to joke, but the touch of sadness in his voice gave it away.
"I know you, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Out with it!"
"Sirius Black is dead, Minerva." Minerva's hand flew to her mouth. No...not Sirius, her mind screamed. Not Sirius...She saw that the light in Albus' eyes had gone out, giving them a haunted, deadened look. It was true...true. Sirius was gone. And he hadn't even been free. He had died a fugitive. No...no. Albus wrapped his arms around Minerva, and they mourned together.
*And there ain't no way
I'm lettin' you go now
And there ain't no way
and there ain't no how
I'll never see that day...*
Minerva returned to Hogwarts, and handed her bags to Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. They walked upstairs, and eventually, she went back to her rooms too. Albus came and comforted her. They fell asleep in each others' arms.
Repeat Chorus (2x)
*'Cause I'm keeping you
forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
morning to your sweet face always*
When they woke up the next morning, Minerva remembered everything that Albus had told her, and cried into his robes for a long time before going back to being the strict-but-fair Transfiguration Professor they all knew. Albus kissed his Tabby lightly on her forehead before she began riffling through the sixth-year homework she'd missed grading while she was in St. Mungo's, only to find Albus had done it for her, somehow.
*'Cause I'm keeping you
forever and for always
We will be together all of our days
Wanna wake up every
morning to your sweet face always
I'm keeping you forever and for always
I'm in your arms*
They were the perfect match, and would be together forever.
