Author Note: Okay guys, this is songfic of the old soldier's song "Lili Marleen", originally in German and damn pretty , sung by Lale Andersen, Marlene Dietrich, Vera Lynn and a whole lot of other people.
Underneath The Lantern[/b]
Part One
The slender figure slid through the darkness, long, tartan cape pulled closely around the thin shoulders so as to guard them off the biting, January cold. The streets were dark, very dark- the muggles had a war two, after all, and the lack of light was simply a smart protection against the bombarding, enemy airplanes- but for once she cursed the safety measures, almost spraining her ankle as she crossed the streets. Of course it was all her own fault- but after a whole day of rather passive classes, she had simply felt like walking the short distance towards the safety house of the Aurors- and thus that she did.
“Lumos!” was the only word she hissed, and the small flame atop of her wand shone as a humble token of freedom amidst of a world of war. It warmed her face, too, and the young woman with the long, black braid and the cat-like, green eyes smiled, as if testing whether her facial muscles weren’t frozen yet. She was very pretty when she smiled, but a natural tendency accompanied by the serious time period she lived in, made that a quite rare event indeed.
Except when she was with him.
Underneath the lantern,
By the barrack gate
Darling I remember
The way you used to wait
A quick look on the little golden clock around her neck told her that it was half past ten already. Pushing her nails a little deeper into the soft flesh of her lower arms, Minerva could not suppress a quick shiver and sigh. Should she leave again, perhaps? She did not know what was happening inside of the invisible house, after all- it could take hours for the meeting to be finished. And why had she come, after all… Just two days earlier, she had met her previous Professor, Albus Dumbledore, again, after almost two years of not seeing him, due to the general confusion of the war and her Auror training. She’d met him again, as if by accident- and the good old schoolgirl crush had, unfortunately, stuck its ugly head around the corner again. She sighed. Well, not that she had ever forgotten about him anyway.
He had told her the location of the Auror safety house, knowing that she would be an Auror too, by the end of the year, and said that, though she would not yet be admitted inside of it, she could always come there, after her training, so they could have a little walk together and, perhaps, talk as well.
And she, foolish as she was, had actually come.
To tell him the truth.
