Summary: Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore, and Ares McGonagall, are fighting in the war against Voldemort. How do their wives feel about this? Enter Minerva McGonagall, Selene Sinistra, and Aneila Hawk...
A/N: Magic of the Arts was an idea from our own Tabby Bee; Aneila belongs to her as well and is being used with permission.
Minerva stood in front of the population of Hogwarts, the Astronomy teacher behind her and to the left, and the Magic of the Arts instructor behind her and to the right. They had decided to sing a song for the students and their fellow educators to release their feelings about their husbands being away.
*I put away the groceries
And I take my daily bread
I dream of your arms around me
As I tuck the kids in bed*,
Minerva sang, thinking of Albus and of their children, nieces, and nephews, and wishing Albus were here right now with all her heart.
*I don't know what you're doin'
And I don't know where you are
But I look up at that great big sky
And I hope you're wishin' on that same
bright star*
Selene wished Aberforth would come back to her safe and sound. Their children were happy, healthy, and safe, but they missed their father terribly, though he had his quirks and problems. It was hard raising children by herself. When she stood on top of the Astronomy Tower and pretended to be wholeheartedly interested in pointing out Venus, she wished with all her heart that perhaps the evening star would guide her husband home.
*I wonder, I pray
[Chorus:]
And I sleep alone
I cry alone
And it's so hard livin' here on my own
So please, come home soon
(Come home soon)*
Aneila joined Selene as she echoed Minerva's words, all three filling the Great Hall with their pain and passion. She knew all too well that in the first war, Ares had fought on the losing side. So had Selene. But they learned the error of their ways before they could perish like their elder brother, Minerva's elder brother, Duncan.
*I know that we're together
Even though we're far apart
And I'll wear our lucky penny 'round my neck
Pressed to my heart*
Aneila sang alone, thinking of Ares. She pulled the Knut hanging on a chain around her neck forward and cradled it in her hand. It shone bright in the flickering lights of a hundred candles and the brilliant stars dotting the ceiling.
*I wonder, I pray
[Repeat Chorus]
And I sleep alone
I cry alone
And it's so hard livin' here on my own
So please, come home soon
(Come home soon)*
Minerva led and again Selene and Aneila followed, their voices mingling in the pain and sorrow they felt, but there was always hope. Hope for a bright reunion, bright as Aneila's pendant.
*[Bridge:]
I still imagine your touch
It's beautiful missing something that much
But sometimes love needs a fighting chance
So I'll wait my turn until it's our turn to dance*
Minerva fell silent as her sister and sister-in-law sang louder and more clearly, and allowed them to have their turn in the spotlight. The music circled around them, almost tangible in its power.
*I wonder, I pray
[Second Chorus:]
I sleep alone
I cry alone
Without you this house is not a home
So please, come home soon*
Minerva rejoined them and they joined hands, gazing up at the starlit ceiling, wishing and hoping for all to come right.
*[Third Chorus:]
I walk alone
I try alone
I'll wait for you, don't want to die alone
So please, come home soon
Come home soon
Come home soon*
Their voices softened as they finished the song, dying down to silence.
