Author's note: "Northern Star" belongs to the group Hole from their album "Celebrity Skin".
"And I cry and no one can hear
Inhale
The blinded eyes that see the chaos
Bring the pitiful to me
Even though I'm wide awake, I will"
Minerva sat in the dark room. All the horrors she witnessed, the pain, the agony and the evil was unbearable. The War was ending. Albus loved her too much to take her with him, to help him defeat Grindelwald. Albus told her not to follow.
"And blackest night and I'll wait for you
It's cold in here there's no one left
And I'll wait for you
And nothing stops it happening
And I knew, I'd cherish all my misery alone"
She never noticed how much she did miss him. They were hardly apart. But she knew that their love for each other would give him the strength he needed for the one moment when good would defeat evil.
She didn't like being alone but she couldn't tell anyone what was going on. No one could know Albus's whereabouts, it could cost him his life. She looked around tears streaming down her face and saw their bed. She went and laid down on it. She shivered, it was too cold, the whole room was too cold. She got up and left the room.
"And I'll wait staring at the Northern Star
I'm afraid it won't lead me anywhere
He's so cold he will ruin the world tonight
All the angels kneel into the Northern Lights
Kneel into the frozen lights"
She went outside and looked at the stars. She remembered when they would lay together in their warmness and he would tell her about the constellations. His favorite place, their special place was the Astronomy Tower at Hogwarts. He loved the stars and she looked up to see if she could see him among them. She couldn't see his star, it was too dark, too much evil.
"And they paid, I cry and cry for you
Ghosts that haunt you with their sorrow
I cried cause you were doomed
Praying to the wound that swallows
All that's cold and cruel
Can you see the trees, charity and gratitude
They run to the pines
It's black in here blot out the sun
And run to the pines
Our misery runs wild and free
And I knew, the fire and the ashes of his grace"
She began to cry again. Her world was growing darker. Her light, her Albus was going out. She wondered if he was fighting alone. Had some of the Order fallen? Did Grindelwald outnumber him? Who were his allies and who weren't? There seemed to be no hope.
The streets were silent as if every witch and wizard was aware and was on guard. She wanted to run, to go find him, help him, love him even more but she promised she wouldn't. The only thing she could do was wait.
"And I'll wait staring at the Northern Star
I'm afraid it won't lead you very far
He's so cold he will win the world tonight
All the angels kneel into the frozen lights
Feel their hearts they're cold and white"
She went back into the house, the cold, dark, gloomy house. She sat down on the couch and the emotion began to take its toll on her.
"Why Albus? Why you? Anyone else but you!" she screamed into the darkness. "You are the greatest wizard but you are not invincible!"
She began to throw the pillows around and stomp her feet on the ground. "You are mine not theirs. I swear on Merlin that if you do not come back to me I will never forgive you and I will hunt down every single Death Eater and make them suffer!"
"And I want you
Oh blessed are the broken
And I beg you
No loneliness, no misery is worth you
I'll tear his heart out cold as ice it's mine"
She never lost her cool like that. She knew it wasn't Albus's fault and that he was-is the only Wizard who can save the wizarding world. She knew his power and greatness when she fell in love with him at Hogwarts.
A smile came to her as the memories flooded back to her and warmth began to go through her body. She had a feeling that Albus was all right, that maybe- no he did win! She turned on the lights and waited.
"And I'll wait praying to the Northern Star
I'm afraid it won't lead you anywhere
He's so cold raining on the world tonight
All the angels kneel into the Northern Lights"
The front door opened and there stood Albus Dumbledore. He was bruised, cut, his robes torn and hair a mess.
Minerva stood up and they stared at each other for what seemed as an eternity.
"Albus?"
"It is over Minerva. We have won."
She ran to him and they kissed a most passionate kiss that lasted forever.
"And I pray begging to the Northern Star
I'm afraid it won't lead you anywhere
He's so cold he will rule the world tonight
All the angels kneel into the Northern Lights
Kneel into the frozen lights
Feel their hearts they're cold as ice."
After their kiss they held each other. Minerva looked out the open door and up to the heavens. There she found her Albus, his star was shining bright and she knew their world would be safe and their love undying.
