You’re Beautiful
A/n: This is a song fic and this is my second one ever so I am not too great at them at the moment. This fic is based on the fabulous song ‘You’re Beautiful’ by the totally talented James Blunt. The words surrounded with ** means the lyrics.
Disclaimer: Sadly Minerva and Albus do not belong to me and nor does this song.
Summary: Albus observes.
Rating: 14+ because there is a swear word within the song lyrics.
**My life is brilliant.**
Albus Dumbledore sat observing the end of year school feast; he wasn’t paying much attention to the chatter that was surrounding him on the staff table. It had been a hard few years; Albus had come face to face with one of the evilest wizards to grace the world he lived in. Haunted memories stayed with him, he knew he would never be rid of them, as they were now part of him. No one would let him forget anyhow because he was celebrated for the bringing about the defeat of a mad man that wrecked havoc for years. His eyes scanned the crowded hall and fell upon the one person who didn’t seem to care that he had defeated Grindelwald. She would see him as he wanted to be seen and for that he loved her despite her age and his profession.
**My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.**
He watched as the Head girl took to the floor with the current Head boy and danced the traditional student dance. He noticed that she stiffen as she danced in her classmate’s arms, she didn’t seem comfortable. He watched as he leaned in for a kiss and she quickly offered her cheek and then moved away from him and the dance floor and returned to her friends. She turned her head and glanced up at the staff table and flashed a brilliant smile before wandering off with her closest friend.
Albus smiled to himself as she watched her cross the hall and mingle in with the crowd of boys and girls. A sea of black robes overwhelmed the great hall and occasionally a flash of colour would appear, signalling a seven-year house alliance. He watched as she took the hand of a boy, it was rumoured that they were to be married once they graduated from Hogwarts. Albus had been taken back by the rumour mill and had thought deeply about it for many nights until he scolded himself.
**But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.**
Albus couldn’t quite believe that he had developed feelings for one of his students. He had tried to deny them, tried to ignore them but he couldn’t anymore. She was breathtaking, so beautiful but it wasn’t too be.
**You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.**
Albus decided that he had had enough of the festivities, he was never really one for formal events and especially since this was the end of a friendship that had been formed in the classroom.
He got to his feet and nodded in the direction of the headmaster, Armando Dippet and made his way through the crowd.
**Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.**
She caught his eye as he walked through the crowd and looked sadly at him, he knew that she knew that he was escaping from the crowds and he knew that she would be upset if he went without saying goodbye. Albus could tell that she was concerned by the look on his face and he decided that he couldn’t say goodbye to her. Their eyes stayed locked as he moved quickly away from her.
**She could see from my face that I was,
F**king high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.**
Albus reached the entrance hall and leaned against the wall for support as he fought back the tears that threatened to spill down his cheeks and into his auburn beard.
He had no right to feel about a student as he did, it was against everything he stood for but then he couldn’t help it and he cursed himself for not being strong enough.
**You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.**
She would be leaving tomorrow with the rest of the students and he doubted that he would see her much once the train pulled out of the school station. He would have to let her go, he needed to let her go because it was the right thing to do. He remember what his grandmother had said to him many years ago, she told him that an angel would send him his true love and he will know as soon as his eyes fell upon her. Had the angel, his grandmother had spoken of delivered his love? Would he have to wait to declare his love? Or was he just being a foolish old man? He shook his head and stalked off towards his rooms, it was time to face the truth that there was never going to be a Minerva Dumbledore.
**You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.**
