PROJECTOR: YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL, IT’S TRUE
Rating: G-PG
My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel, of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.
“Really, Albus,” Minerva remarked disapprovingly. “You didn’t choose this song?”
It was Valentine’s Day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and in light of the defeat of the Dark Lord, a ball had been scheduled. The Great Hall had been decorated with hearts and streamers; students wore red and pink dress robes. Even the teachers shared in the festivities- Severus Snape was dancing with Rolanda Hooch, Alastor Moody had thrown his arm around Poppy Pomfrey’s shoulders. All of the punch bowls had to be purged repeatedly to strain out all of the love potions, and Minerva McGonagall, even though it was a holiday, meant for fun, was the frazzled peacemaker in such incidents.
“Wait until you see what’s going with it, Minerva,” he said, winking at her.
That wink, she thought later that night, would be the death of her someday.
You're beautiful, you're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
A rather old magical projector sputtered to life, throwing a rather familiar scene for two of the people in the room onto a wall.
It was a crowded Muggle Italian restaurant, and one could recognize Albus Dumbledore at first sight- his familiar blue eyes twinkled out from the image, although his graying auburn beard and hair had been cropped so as not to attract attention. Opposite his table was a booth where a young couple sat- the male half was a rather familiar young man, with ruffled jet-black hair and brown eyes. He had his arm around a rather uncomfortable-looking young woman, who was, even at first glance, blatantly gorgeous. She turned to look at the screen Albus, and a brilliant smile lit up her face as she saluted.
Minerva McGonagall’s eyes widened.
Yeah, she caught my eye,
As she walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
F**king high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.
The image changed- instead, it was the Leaky Cauldron, where Albus Dumbledore was shaking hands and speaking to the large crowd of people that had gathered around him. There was the woman again, striding right past the crowd, but as he turned to look at her, she smiled her brilliant smile and waved. He waved back, watching her as she met up with the young man and kissed him on the cheek.
The entire crowd of people had stopped to watch the projector. As the image zoomed in on the young man and woman, someone in the crowd- probably Ronald Weasley- cried, “Bloody ‘ell, Harry! He looks like you!”
You're beautiful, you're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
Yet again the image changed. It was Hogwarts, and the ‘camera’ zoomed through the halls to halt just as the same woman- apparently a teacher now- was walking out of her rooms. Just at the same time, Albus Dumbledore was walking down the hall- towards her. “Albus,” called the woman. “I need your help!”
“How may I be of assistance, my dear?”
“These pins,” she complained. “They don’t work- I’ve tried every spell that I know, even bought new ones, but I don’t know what’s happening. My hair isn’t too greasy to hold, I know that.”
“Maybe the pins want you to keep your hair down, Minerva?” the screen Albus suggested.
There was a collective gasp from the entire room.
“You’re just saying that to make me keep it down,” she said.
“And if I am?”
“You’re flirting with me, you know.”
“Ah, yes, wouldn’t want young Samuel Potter getting ideas.”
Another gasp.
“Hmph. I suppose I shall have to abide by the pins’ wishes.” She let the curtain of dark hair fall down her back as screen Albus gallantly offered her his arm. “The students will be shocked out of their minds, you know.”
You're beautiful, you're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
“You’re a hopeless romantic, Albus Dumbledore,” Minerva remarked loudly. “I guess that’s another reason why I love you.”
